Coconut oil 1tbs and 20 squirts of Benadryl spray! My dog has battled this off and on for a while and this is something that works very quickly and usually only apply 2-3 times a day. I don't put deep in the interior just the inside of the ear not in the canal. Hopefully this helps

(Another nurse here...) One important thing!! Always clean the tube off after it comes in contact with the ear canal!! Otherwise, you may be re- infecting the ear/ears each time you treat! Also, it would be good to flush the debris in ear canal out before each treatment. That way you can actually SEE if you're making progress too. 😊

First time my dog had a yeast infection the Vet charged over $300! When I asked for a refill for the meds, I was told to bring him back to see if he had the same ear issues......it was the same! Had dogs for 40 years and I know the smells etc! Greed! I ended up using Monistat, diluted it and used it for a while, then flushed. Once the ears healed, I flush with Apple Cidar Vinegar diluted with water and it seems to work. I wish the groomer would ensure that his ears are free from shampoo/conditioner residue! Everytime he is groomed, 2 days later this stuff comes out and smells like the products they use. If I don't flush his ears, here comes another infection. It's frustrating as hell and it would be nice if groomers paid attention to that! Thx Doc, as always great advice!

@@billiebentley9549 Hi Billie! As I said, we've been fighting yeast off and on for the 2 years we've been stuck in Floriduh. I've pretty much tried everything you can name and he's continued to have varying degrees of ear infections. Very frustrating.
SO I watched this video by Dr. Jones and Tula, ordered the Clortrimazol.
I cleaned his ears with the yeast bath rinse which is 1/2 cup of peroxide, 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar with the mother and 1/2 gallon of water. I cleaned his ear flaps and tried not to get it in his ear canal. I then put a big blob of Clortrimazol on my finger and gently pushed it into the opening of his ear canal and then massaged the outside of his ear canal at the back of his ear. I've been doing this twice a day for over a week and we've had great success! He's stopped scrubbing his head on the ground because it hurts. One ear looks completely normal, and the other one has just the slightest bit of inflammation and discoloration left. I'm more than happy with the result.
Just so you can gauge, I've used one whole tube. He's a big Shih Tzu at 40 pounds, not overweight, just a big boy. The first day he tried to bite me but now it feels good and he's happy to let me treat him.
I'm going to keep treating his ears for a while longer just to be on the safe side.

This video was so very helpful! I have a 2 year old pup who constantly has yeast in his ears. I had tried so many things. Yes we tried the vet. I came across a video about Vagisil. But I was so afraid to try it. I finally broke down and decided to go look to see what I could find. I had found the clotrimazole and bought it. It seemed to be less ingredients compared to any of the other options. I applied it twice yesterday. It seemed to help immediately. Then today I came across your video. It made me feel even better about my decision. I get really bad guilt/anxiety when he gets sick. Because we can't always afford to take him to the vet. So I try a lot of at home remedies. But I tend to do a lot of research about whatever I'm going to do. I will be adding your channel to the list of channels that I go to for my at-home information. Thank you so much for what you do! Your last comment is correct, and too many haters have crossed our path while we were homeless, dont pay those heartless people any mind when they comment on it. My comment above tells how I dealt with it in my border collie using a little cap of vodka (*NOT rubbing alcohol ) and a pinch pannacure aka fenbendazole, mixed and gently injected into the ear after gently swabbing it out first. Then later after it dries the same day a simple bit of aloe in the upper ear as moisturizer. We even mixed a little pinch more of the med powder in that as well. It worked better than tractor supply stuff. ♥

Wow, this really worked on my dog today that has had an ear infection for the last 3 days. I'm a struggling artist and can't afford the high price$ some vets charge for visits to take care of common issues with my dog like this. I always Google everything and search RUclips videos on remedies and this REALLY worked and the ointment was no more than $7 at Dollar General near my home. I immediately put it on my dogs ear canal and he hasn't scratched at it nor shaken his head at all. There are a lot of skeptical dog owners that prefer to spend a lot of $$$ by visiting their vets for dog issues. It's NOT always neccessary...Thank you Dr Jones!

Our neighbor told us of this after we got our GSD a few years back. His previous owner had let him get an ear infection so bad and left him untreated to the point he had blood and puss dripping from his ears. He is so sensitive now and hates anyone touching his ears at all. Takes a good bit of timing to get the cream in his ears but always helps pretty quickly. (His previous owner left him with so many issues that we have yet to overcome even after 3+ years but we just love on him and he feels safe here).

Poor thing! I've rescued and love GSDs. Here are some tips:
The food is the cause of all issues. All the commercial food, every single one, is the root cause of all dog ailments.
Choose a decent quality kibbles. Get rid of all canned food. Make a stew with fresh vegs like cabbage, bok choy, leafy greens like rainbow chard/ kale, broccoli, turnips, carrots, zucchini, kabocha squash, etc. Add a variety of meats or rotate meats- chicken, pork, beef, liver, kidneys, heart, skin. Make this stew and serve on top of high quality no grain kibbles. Do not feed any grain (rice, wheat, pasta, bread, etc) to dogs. Restrict high carbs like potato, sweet potato, peas during yeast cure phase. After that, it is fine.
Buy Iceland Pure Sardine Anchovy Fish oil and store in fridge. 2-4 squirts in food daily. Amazon $26 for 33 oz.
Give raw beef knuckle bones, Patas de res (beef ankle bones), raw turkey neck as treats. Pork must be cooked, so avoid pork bones. Bones splinter when cooked, so always raw and not thin ones. Heat up bone for 30 secs in microwave, remove marrow, and bone will not have odor or attract flies. Cook up the marrow and add it to the food. The large beef knucklebones are great for GSDs.
Breakfast is 2 eggs cooked, with a dollop of Greek yoghurt on top of kibbles.
Also good to use fresh mixed baby greens for salads. Add a handful in the food for digestive enzymes and greens.
I use a pressure cooker, cook a whole chicken for 2 hrs on high. Remove chicken, debone, set aside. Take softened bones and half broth, and pulverize bones in a blender. Set aside. Take clean broth, cook vegs in it, plus organ meats and pork or other meats, and when stew is ready, add bone broth back in, and the deboned chicken. This ensures all the calcium, gelatin, fats, iron, minerals are back in the food. Bones are incredibly nutritious!!! You don't want to cook the veggies with the ground bone at same time. The ground bones sit at the bottom of pan and make mini explosions as you are cooking, which is annoying.
For smaller dogs, I freeze half the ground bones for the next stew. Poop may turn white from bones, this is fine.
If you want to make a fantastic soup for yourself, pressure cook any bones for 2 hrs, let rest, cook for another 2 hrs. This extracts everything out of the bone and adds a lot of flavor to soups or dishes as stock.
For ears - check for intact ear drums with otoscope or have vet do it. Then rinse out the ears with warm water and baby shampoo if badly inflamed. Let all debris, pus, and gunk come out. Flush once a week like this. Towel dry, tilt head to drain all water out, clean up with tissue, Q tip inside ear canal to remove water and gunk. Then apply creams as mentioned here. Without this thorough cleaning, the medication is not reaching the fungus or bacteria. If ear has an active infection, you want to wash it out, and use Mometamax, not Tresaderm (not as good). Once it is healed, then start the anti fungal creams. Ear rinses during every bath, and if there is a lot of debris building up, or pus, as this will keep ears clean. Once the infections are gone, you only need to rinse out ears during bath time not too often.
Any itchy skin on GSDs start with food. Food is critical. You can use 1/2 tsp MSM and 1/2 tsp Glucosamine in the food to reduce inflammation. Buy bulk powders on Amazon cheap. You can also buy Potassium and Magnesium and Vitamin C in bulk powders. I use 1/3 tsp of each of these for large dogs, and myself. For me, I mix with water and some Apple Cider Vinegar daily 1-2 times. It drops blood pressure and keeps you healthy. Ditto for dogs.

Maybe his previous owner couldn't afford the the care the dog needed. A lot of people don't know about some of the free or voucher services out there for low income families needing vet care. It's ok to share your story about helping the dog, but I don't see why you need to bash the previous owners to make yourself feel better about yourself. What's important is the dog is now in a healthy environment....that's all that matters. Bashing the previous owners says more about your character than theirs.

@@southerngypsy1894 I disagree strongly. Ask yourself, if this were a child, would it be alright, and would you be making excuses for this horrible, cheapskate, vile, cruel parent? CPS would be down in an instant to remove the child. Police would cuff and jail the parents immediately, and news channels would be full of coverage on this issue. Yet when its a dog or cat, everyone is silent. The animal also has rights under law to be raised with kindness and medical care. If owner could not afford medical care for his pet, he can take the pet to a shelter. Letting it suffer is inhumane and absolutely 100% NOT ACCEPTABLE. I'd like to personally thrash anyone who does this to innocent animals who trust and love us so unconditionally, and get abuse in return. Its disgusting. Don't have pity for owners of neglect and abuse.

Dried neem leaves work VERY well against yeast in a dog. I had a dog who had severe yeast issues. She had itchy skin, crusty ears, and it got to the point where she also didn't absorb the nutrients in her food as well so that I had to feed her almost twice as much just so she would hold her weight. (I suspect her colon made a biofilm to protect itself against the yeast and the biofilm blocked a lot of the nutrients from going through.) I tried so many things, none of which worked. Then I finally tried dried neem leaves added to her food. Within a week I noticed a big difference, and in two weeks the difference was like night and day. She felt so much better! After about three weeks her ears stopped being crusty, her coat became shiny and full again, and I actually had to cut down on her food because she was absorbing the nutrients so well again that she was gaining too much weight. Neem is absolutely amazing! It is very bitter, but I think dogs don't taste bitter because I give all of them neem now (can't hurt, I'm sure) and they all eat the food right up. I just make sure it's the leaves and not the root or seeds because I think those would be too strong. Anyway, I am so excited about neem that I'm actually going to grow a tree in a pot now (I am not in a hot enough growing zone for a neem tree to grow in the earth outside). Neem leaves for the win! 🙂

I am seeing one of those Vets this coming Saturday I remember when he was young and just starting out and how enthused he was to try home remedies for dogs with displasia unfortunately 20 years later he is jaded and not so helpful anymore. Only seeing him for a technical wellness check that we have to get once a year to keep our dogs listed as clients in case they get sick we use a low cost Vet clinic for their shots which is free to seniors in our area. They don't have On Call hours if your pet is sick hence having to use our old Vet office. I hate how they have changed over the years since big corp took over their practice. Anna In Ohio

It would be wise to remove sugar from the dieth (honey, high fructose corn sirop, white and sweet potatoes, tapioca)

I happened to see your video the week you posted it. My dog had the things going on, as you described it. I didn't have the cream you spoke of but happened to have Lotrimin cream. I tried some in my dog's ear and it worked quickly. We just put an adequate amount on a finger of a gloved hand, put med in and rubbed the ear good. Thank you for the help.

I have two Lhasa Apsos and I want to feed them healthy dog food and snacks but I don't know which one is the right one. Thank you!

Doctor I am forever grateful. My lab started coming down with a mild yeast infection yesterday morning. He's very difficult to take to the vet and as my health is bad I procrastinated and thought I would take him in today. When I contacted the vet they said he was out of town and there was nothing they could do. Because of the extreme weather I knew that within a couple of days it would escalate terribly and make his life unbearable. Why I hadn't thought of you first I don't know. As soon as I saw your beautiful face and clicked on the video I knew that I didn't have to worry. Of course as always your solution was the gentler softer and most inexpensive way. Luke has severe anxiety problems and taking him to the vet unless it's an emergency is something I avoid. He is a risk to me and to himself. So any in-home treatments are truly a prayer answered. Why I strayed away from you I'm not sure. Anyway I feel like Luke and I found our way home. Oddly enough he turned seven yesterday finding you was an awesome birthday present for a beautiful boy that's entering into a more mature journey in his life. Hoping all is well with you and yours. Great big hugs.

I was septical about this at first. My GSD has suffered very expencive and painful ear flareups/infections for the last 2years. The last vet appointment cost £700 for a ear flush under anesthetic and then more meds for 4 weeks after. I was not suprised when it then re-appeared as soon as the meds were finished!! I went a local shop and picked this up for £2.69. Used it that day and for 3 days and within 3 days her ear was completely clear! I used this alongside an antiseptic ear cleaner (Leucillin). I am very very impressed. So far no issues since! And i am keeping ontop of the ear cleaner 1 - 2 times a week

I appreciate these videos. I'd followed another one you posted and still do. We have 3 shih tzus who were always prone to ear infections. Often too. Going to the vet cost a looooot of money, and the infections kept coming back. Well, when I began to follow another video you shared, their ear infections became rare, and now it's been years since any have had one. Why I prefer home care for most things. The quick fix (vet) often ends up making stuff come back often and costs more to fix (in vet visits too), whereas the home remedy may take a bit longer and more work, but the issue doesn't tend to come back often.
