'Good and bad officers,' are one issue, and uneducated ones are another. The one saying "I don't care" was either uneducated or he really didn't care because his boy is president and he hates the press. This kind of thing is going to have to change in the US before it gets out of hand. People who think like that officer are dangerous, but in their heads, they're good for America or "doing God's work." This nonsense will change! When Trump is gone we have a lot of healing and cleaning up to do. We should start with our police departments.

zzz none of this would’ve happened if the police would’ve taken responsibility and locked up all the officers involved (immediately after the incident, not 4 days later) That’s undisputable. I don’t agree with violent protesting but there is a serious issue with the police not being held accountable time and time again people are fed up what do you expect. Additionally the officers who killed Breonna Taylor in her home are still free... there is a lot to be upset about in addition to the looting going on rn.

max it’s still an option though. Even just these relatively small scale protests compared to HK are pushing the authorities to their limits. If HK happened here it’s likely that the authorities would be easily overwhelmed and outgunned if they decided to switch to leathal force

They weren't slaughtered. One got pepper sprayed, the other got hit in the eye by a rubber bullet. The rubber bullet was probably on accident, only one of these cases were legit police brutality.

Journalists should keep out of the way. Meaning they have cameras with a zoom lens, if they kept their distance they would still get pictures and videos. Its common sense.
Typically they are coordinating with law enforcement to accommodate each other, but when tensions get high, you have local and state police as well as national guard, and they'll tell anyone who moves to get down on the ground and put on handcuffs.

If there is an order to clear an area, everyone has to move, including the press. That does not, however, justify excessive use of force. Especially when the journalists (such as in the case of CNN) clearly offer that they will move to a permitted zone. I have myself covered street riots in my country (Czechia) and got into similar situations - the police just took me by my hand and pushed me to the permitted area. If the person complies with an order, there is not reason to escalate the situation. Also, some of the situations were escalated by Police giving conflicting orders like - "down on the ground!! and "move inside" at the same time. Are the protesters violent? Some of them yes! But it is the job of a riot police to distinguish the rioters from protesters and maintain calm even in emotional situations. That is what they are supposed to be trained for. Instead, they fire those rubber bullets like a cowboy from the 1960s Western movie.
This also happened to an Australian press, one of the male reporters was cornered and punched in the stomach. The Australian Prime Minister is demanding an investigation from the Australian embassy.
I felt so sorry for that poor man. And then they had the nerve to shoot both of them with rubber bullets afterwards. I hope the Australian government rips ours a new one for that absolutely disgusting display of aggression and ignorance.

The minute the first cop gets fired and their pension gets taken away this will all stop immediately. All it takes is for them to have to have something on the line and suddenly they will get really careful. It isn't a matter of of personal safety or accidents in crowds, any of these videos show that clearly the officers can see that they are dealing with members of the press. They have no excuse.
