UA is definitely a school that is very interested in your wallet! Parking and Housing is the major example of this! Housing is outrageous! The cheapest will run you about $860 (very small room) to decent sized (still kinda small) at about $1800. All of these include a community kitchen, and most are either shared bathrooms or community bathrooms. If you move into a dorm after the beginning of the semester, housing will charge you the entire amount for the entire semester with NO payment plan! Your financial aid check should be for your classes and needed supplies, not for the university to take, just because they want to! The housing department staff (supervisors) are very unhelpful, and their favorite answer is 'that's the way we always did it!" Housing is definitely one department that only cares about the money you will give to them, and not the student! Very sad! For Covid19 they shutdown all but one of the affordable dorms, isn't that convienient! Just proves they are after as much of your financial aid check as they can get! Be careful when selecting your housing options.
If you take Chem 151 (Intro Chem) or Math 112 (College Algebra), they are horrible & hard ass hell. Get a tutor if you aren’t good. These are like mandatory/intro classes for STEM and health professions.

Id pick whatever School has the better department of whatever it is im majoring in. For example the UofA has a much better business and law school. Meanwhile the ASU department of engineering is better as is their school of education. Its hot as shit in both schools, Both are big Universities, both are party schools, but Tucson has better food, more to do outdoors, less violent crime and friendlier people. I have lived in southern Arizona for most of my life btw.

Yes it's cheaper to take your basics in Tucson at Pima Community College that will transfer. You can take classes both at the UofA and Pima in the same semester

bro the campus of the u of a is INSANE. I don't actively go there but I live in Tucson and it's hell to get around when you're busy. it's really great though, the campus is really beautiful too
I went to Rutgers for my undergrad. My first year I lived on campus and it used to take me 40 mins to go to my classes. I had to walk 20 mins to get to the bus stop and then take the RU bus from one campus to the other. The UoA is really not that big, Rutgers’ main campus had 4 different campuses and you had to take the bus from one campus to the other. I guess you could walk but it will take you a while😅

Blue Chip is great for leadership experience and there are amazing acapella groups on campus!! Active Minds is also great for mental health awareness and there’s a club called Vida where you can fundraise all year to make money for a trip to Costa Rica where you help animals!!
If you don't join a sorority or fraternity, do you get kind of excluded in the social life and the parties? Like if we were not in greek life, would it still be easy to know about parties going on and keep a fun social life on campus?
Not necessarily. The greek scene is pretty large on campus and you will meet many people involved in it. With that being said, if you join clubs/honoraries and try to make friends or study partners in your classes you can have a just as good of a social life.
On regards of food on campus, it sucks! Is the thing that I dislike the most about the UoA. The lack of a proper dinning ball at UoA. Rutgers (where I did my BS), has 4 different dinning halls, and there are all buffet style, RU also has cafeterias in different part of campus where you can use your meal plans. Obviously Rutgers is much bigger than the UoA but having at least 1 proper dinning hall with all you can eat will be awesome.

I'm thinking about applying. I live about 30 mins away from the campus and have had good experiences there. I think their Technical design and production program at the school of theatre and film is perfect for me. Plus, I'd get to stay with my favorite choir director.

Go to U of A over UBC. I’m from Vancouver, have plenty of family and friends that went to UBC, and I did 4 years at U of A. It’s not even a comparison, really. You won’t get much of an experience outside of academics at UBC. Hope it’s not too late and you decided on U of A!
Don't they have a halfway decent men's basketball program at U. of A? The Wildcats, something like that. Attending a game at McKale Center can be quite a spectacle. School spirit goes into hyperdrive.

The parking seems to be bad. $700 for a semester or academic year! Ridiculous! Concerning Math, I think you must suck at math, and all those who said the Math Dept is bad must also suck at Math. As a junior please take my advice to stop worrying about colleges and enjoy middle school and high school! I worried way too much about college way too early and it’s one of the things I regret!
I actually didn’t even consider going to asu at all, the main reasons were bc of the multiple campus’ it makes it feel not as much of a community bc it’s so big + many ppl told me that it doesn’t feel like a college campus since it’s in a city and it feels that way. The last main reason was because it doesn’t have a traditional Greek row like u of a does. U of a had more of that traditional college campus that i was looking for!!
Summer Dow I live in Phoenix and can tell you that I thought that when moving to Tucson but honestly Tucson has a lot to do! You just gotta look and you can always go to Phoenix on the weekends! UA does make it worth it

Without a doubt, parking is the worst. The cost is ridiculous, and on top of that if you go 3 mph over the 15 mph speed limit and get caught you get hit with a huge fine. Parking and Transportation is by far the worst part of the UofA. They take whatever opportunity they can get to rob you blind.

There is guaranteed scholarships based on your GPA and test scores. I got a 1420 SAT and 3.8 GPA and getting a 30k a year scholarship for U of Az

I also am a science major so I think I heard that U of A is better for the sciences and I am also pre med and U of A has a medical school close to the school also!
Summer Dow I get you! But don’t worry there is always on campus police and I don’t hear too many crazy stories. I’m pre med as well and can definitely tell you the opportunities are great for that as well!

Without a doubt, parking is the worst. The cost is ridiculous, and on top of that if you go 3 mph over the 15 mph speed limit and get caught you get hit with a huge fine. Parking and Transportation is by far the worst part of the UofA. They take whatever opportunity they can get to rob you blind.
