- Face ID is a new feature introduced to iPhone X/XS/XR/XS Max. While it is a most powerful component allow biometric authentication for unlocking a device, there are quite a lot of instances when Face ID will not work. In this video, we fully tore down the Face ID module(dot projector, flood illuminator and infrared camera), and took a deep analysis of the reasons and solutions of Face ID issues.

Apple should still give us fingerprint sensor beside broken prone Face ID, as secondary security system. I don't think I would buy an iPhone again after this incident.

Yeah, it's not water resistant, and if it breaks, the only way is to get a new one or to chance the mother board.

I have gone through 3 different iPhone x all with face id failures in some way or another, one outright failed with the common " face id unavailable" message, the other 2 though simply stopped being able to focus on my face out of nowhere, didn't drop them or expose them to water they just quit, super fragile component for sure

Yea true, when I opened the phone i accidentally hit the lens. Next time, I wont use the pry tool at the top. I thought it would be okay because I saw videos and people would use the tool from the top of the screen

Just recently of owning my iPhone XS Max for almost 2 yrs my Face ID gave out. Took it to Apple store and said it was the ID sensor and not repairable. They gave me another new phone without charge because o had Apple care.
i wish apple can just improve this ID system in the future to be durable enough, instead of trying further into something else ridiculous...

Almost half of the iPhone's my friends have already have broken Face ID systems and mine is going out, it spits an error out about every 5/10 times I use it that the camera failed to launch and to revert to use my passcode

Apple has been known to make many anti repair moves by Hiding Schematics from outside world,Making parts unavailable,Making third party parts unuseable through software and a whole lot more to shorten life of a device as much as possible.
Apple has been facing the protest against anti repair policy at law making government bodies in US and as a result recently started making microscopic steps to provide few parts for third party repair with a heavy load of if's. Is there any place that could troubleshoot face id in UK? I have a not working one that I would like to get fixed.. cables look ok, nothing is visibly damaged.. It's driving me crazy
If the display was changed, there is a possibility that you damaged the flex cable to the dot projector or nearby. Check under scope
@@josiahsoko32 Is there any good way how to determine if the dot projector is working or not? Cable looks ok visually, but could still be damaged.. I don't have a microscope.. would have to buy one. (btw the screen has been changed, but this was after the face id stopped working.. and I later put back the original screen back anyway because the touch stopped working on it)
How is it possible for IP68 rated phone to get water damage?
Because the iPhone XS is not really waterproof. That's cheating! You can protect it better than the competitor, but you can't write IP68 on it if it doesn't!

My face id is not working after opening the Iphone XR for back glass replacement. Also the emojis in FaceTime is not working. What should I do??? Please suggest. I cleaned Dot Projector & connective jacks too. But still the 2 functions not working. FaceId & Emojis in Face time.

Have you replaced the camera module related to Face ID? Please be noted that Infrared camera, Flood illuminator, and Dot Projector are paired to the phone. Once replaced, Face ID might also fail.
Front and back cameras are not working, so neither flashlight and FaceID. I don’t really care about FaceID because I prefer the code system verification.
Do you think if I change the entire front module (front camera, sensors...) cameras will work again?

I have a problem, when connecting the infrared camera on the board the rear and front cameras turn black, but if I unplug them they work again, if I put another infrared camera the cameras work, only with the original not

IR-Camera and Dot-Projector, both parts are tied with the cpu of iPhone. I tried out to replace each of them separately. In both cases I get the Failure "Face ID can not activated."

I do take my iPhone swimming and my Face ID never damages not until today I felt like a boss when it was slightly raining today and my Face ID is toast 😅😅
I just got my 13 pro max Face ID repaired today. They had to replace the entire TrueDepth camera sensors. Thank god I’m under warranty or I would have to put out $300.

the issue happened to my xs too, however the xs has a little bit better water resistance when dropped into it. BTW i tried to wash my phone with water and it has short fused the dot projector.

hi Rewa Tech, iphone XR water damaged, if i replace the true depth camera and normal camera will it works ? when i try to setup face ID it's not working, when i try Portrait photo it's blurry. Face ID seems to be ok, but true depth camera not.

According to the troubleshooting at 7:20, my iPhone X's Infrared Camera seems to be at fault after water damage. Can it be replaced individually while keeping all other components of Face ID intact.
Everything else works perfectly fine, like the front camera, red light on dot projector, proximity sensor, animoji, and there is NO message saying "Face ID is not available".

What about “move iPhone lower/higher” issue when trying to set up Face ID?
I have an iPhone that exhibits this symptom. The Animoji feature continues to work properly, indicating IR camera and dot projector are probably still working. Animoji uses only the camera soo maybe your dot projector is gone .

Hello, what a nice and helpful video you guys did here... I bought the machine and did the same as you guys did, but there is a problem is that when i add my face, and lock the phone it won't open to my face. So let me be clear... The thing is that at the beginnning it was giving a warning to get the phone lower and upper. right now everything looks great. Just that when i put my face and it says everything is complete . My face id restarts directly. So please if someone can help me with this or anything because i've tried several times. Thank you so much and i appreciate your help.
