Best steering wheel control tutorial video on RUclips by far. Followed your instructions and had my Maestro SW wired and functioning in 20 mins. Keep up the great work man.
@@jptheinstallguy quick question, my maestro-sw has been working great but occasionally it will start randomly skipping through songs uncontrollably and will become completely unresponsive for about a minute or two. It usually starts working again after some time or if I turn the car off and back on again which is a pain if I’m in the middle of driving. Do you have any idea why this might be happening? Before it starts randomly skipping all SWC functions work great with the head unit.
Awesome video! I hooked up Maestro SW to a 2010 Toyota Corolla, but for whatever reason, it wouldn't power on. Took your advice to hook up the ground/auxiliary together with the same wires from the harness and presto, everything works as desired. Had spent two hours troubleshooting an issue that your video resolved for me in 10 minutes. Dope.
without this channel I wouldnt have been able to understand all of this so clearly in the amount of time I did. Took an afternoon to install a new radio, this maestro, and a backup camera.
Thank you for this video! The pandemic has indefinitely postponed the professional install of a new head unit and Maestro SW for my wife's car, and your video is one of several giving me confidence to tackle the task myself. Great detail and great explanations! And thank you for the detail so many video makers skip: identifying when something is unique to your install and what someone else might need to do in other situations (especially for mentioning the blue/yellow control wire for people not using the 3.5mm plug).
Superb video! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I have been working on cars, trucks, and motorcycles since 1983, but I really learned something here. Thank you again.
This is exactly what I needed! Best Buy isn't installing right now so the JVC I got from them , gotta do it myself, the only part I couldn't figure out is where the the little plug went, on mine, according to your video: nowhere! Thanks so much!
This video was a huge help I had one simple question about installing this module and this video answered it perfectly. Thanks JP I appreciate you for making this video.
Good stuff, nice and easy to follow up. One thing I would do is to solder those 3 wired you hooked up last and wire shrink it. Otherwise all look good. Bravo!!!
Thanks for the video I'm using maestro RR for Ford F350 your video is helpful I'm using Boss sterio 10.1 inch screen and it's single but it's very nice setup with maestro wiring
Hey JP great video bro i'm putting same kind of steering control with a kenwood android radio on my 2009 honda odyssey just like to thank you for showing how to hook up the steering control.
Great Video!! I ordered an Maestro SW to install in my friend car , he took his car in two diferent places here in Mexico and no body can make it work, let see if I can make it work. My friends car is a 2008 Toyota camrry solara convertible. Greetings from México!!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge on this. I am wanting to install one on my 2008 Honda Ridgeline. My question doesn’t have anything to do with this module but can you tell me what wire harness should I use for my Ridgeline? Thanks in advance.
Hey great video and i have a question, i have a radio (sony dsx-a415bt) and it does not have the 3.5mm plug or swc wire coming from the unit what do i splice the blue with yellow wire to? 07 ridgeline is the car
is this for all vehicles i mean i am color blind and need a new steering wheel control module, i can do wiring by number so to speak. but dont have a ridgeline you are great at teaching us things i appreciate you
Well this module works for more data based steering wheel controls the way it installs is the same process as far as flashing it from the computer but depending on the vehicle you have you might need to try a different for it to work properly. I would go to the idatalink website and put your vehicle info in and see what solutions work for your car and if it does go with this module all day
so noob here. In the instruction, when it says "Vehicle wires", is that cables you have tap into from the vehicle harness ? I have boss touchscreen and an Acura TL. Think I am misunderstanding the wiring.
Is there a maestro sw that can run aftermarket Bluetooth steering wheel control buttons. The car is a 2013 Jetta with no factory steering wheel buttons and the jvc kw-v430bt is capable for maestro but you can not set up the steering wheel control buttons on the radio like others.
Very helpful videos on this channel! I have a question that I'm hoping you've encountered. I am incorporating the same unit in this video (Maestro ADS-MSW) into a 2011 Silverado. The flash was successful on the maestro site. However, it tells me that the cable going to the vehicle is the purple/red. Specifically, it says it goes to the BCM instead of the car harness, etc. (Connector A, pin 6 green.) Just looking for a little guidance before splicing into the BCM.
I dont think I've had to tap into the bcm but if it says it you will have to sometimes there is a swi wire than needs to be tapped into or cut and its never behind the radio they wouldn't tell you to don't if it wasn't needed
yes because the non major brand radios should still have a steering wheel control port to plug in or at least a swc wire and you really need the module for the car more than the radio even though its needed for both.
I installed my new Kenwood stero and I had pioneer before and when I connected everything the only thing I had to do was the steering wheel controls, I saw your video I flashed it but it didnt work. Do you know if I have reset the maestro for the new Kenwood or I just flash it and it work?
you will have to flash it for the new radio also make sure that you use the right connector for the controls. pioneer will use the 3.5mm jack and kenwood will have a swc wire which is blue with a yellow stripe
Excellent tutorial. Thank you very much for the how to’s!!! One quick question I have on the instruction manual that I got with mine the number four part says to enter your username and password. Does whoever does this programming have to have a username and password or can I make up my own much as if I was logging into any other website? Thank you again, this is by far the best explained video for this application.
Question, what’s the next step when there is no swc jack on the receiver, but there is a “steering wheel control” which is blue/yellow. How are the connections supposed to be done?
if you have a jvc or kenwood radio or any radio that has a swc wire instead of a plug simply wire the two wires together the blue/yellow stripe from the swc to the one on the car
Great explanation. Only bit of advice is that you do the poke and wrap method for tapping wires. Take a pick and split the strands in stripped wire section, then insert the new wire and wrap around. Then tape and zip tie.
Nice video...drives me crazy when customers want Boss or Dual or Jensen...if it's what they really want, I won't turn their business away, but I hate installing them because I think they are junk. Otherwise, you did a nice video.
Don't you find it odd that its always the off brand that is the most versatile with factory stuff...its like Name brands never realized that we were installing in someone else's car and maybe you need to have a more versatile product ...
Bro, I install the avx6000 Sony in the Acura tsx 2010 with this maestro Sw.. I wired correctly and dont work the controles in the steering Wheel. Why? When I push the volume or Channel or menú the green light actívate in the maestro but nothin in the radio

Thank you this was the most helpfull video I watched on RUclips. I just installed a Pioneer dmh-2660nex and Maestro sw It all works thank you again.

Thanks for the video! I like that we can customize the buttons and long push
no problem yea i like that feature as well
Clean Install, if you want to add Apple Car Play to your factory radio Thank you for the content
Best explanation for this.
You are incredible brother!!, right on!...

So you only tap into the CAR harness for the pin connections, and the rest of the needed wires tap into the RADIO's harness, correct?

Wow I have a Honda Ridgeline I will definitely being doing this to mine.
Great video
Thanks! man
I have a 2018 Silverado that doesn’t have audio controls on the steering wheel is it possible to add that on
Ive got a DMX7706s Kenwood. Im not it has a blue/yellow wire on the back. Can i still use this???
I hate radio wiring lol I’m trying to install an alpine on a 2015 but trying to retain back up camera and steering wheel control
So on the Ridgeline which cable do you connect to the Pink Vehicle speed sensor?

Can I connect the red accessory and black ground to the same vehicle harness you connected the black/white and purple/red to ?
If I plug the 3.5 into the back of the radio, where does the microphone 3.5 go?
so noob here. In the instruction, when it says "Vehicle wires", is that cables you have tap into from the vehicle harness ? I have boss touchscreen and an Acura TL. Think I am misunderstanding the wiring.
Does this will work if i put a gli steering wheel (with controls on it) on a Jetta MK4 2000 with an aftermarket head unit? Just plug and play?
Great video. Thanks. Question, will I still have full control of the I-MID

Create a user name and password for the actual site it's just to log in and it's free.

I did not get the part that shows the wiring needs after the flash. Was not there. I need to know what wires for a 2011 Honda Element. Anyone know?
Found it online. THanks.

Who cares what you think? You are paid to install the unit of their choice. If it's trash so what, it isn't yours lol
How do I know if I'll need this device? I have a 2007 Cadillac sts base model. And I want to install JVC KW-M865BW
Best way is to go to the idatalink website and use the fit guide. It lets you put your car in and shows you if the maestro will work best for you

What if you have a key 1 and key 2 wires
Maestrot is pronounced Mi Stroh as in a conductor of classical music.
Noisy back music

Of course somebody in a Ridgeline is paying somebody to put in a BOSS unit.
Thanks!
