Not sure why this video received any "thumbs down". You're on point about the back and butt positioning. Glad to see this being taught. Good job coach.
That 2nd bad habit is awesome. Your absolutely correct. It's easier to get your glove to the ground when back is parallel to the ground. Pretty cool!! I did not know how to explain that to my team. I always thought chest up, butt down. Good stuff!! 👍🤙
Justin, I'm with you 2 1/2 out of 3. On plays where the fielder has the right amount of time, the 'pat' can be a useful tool in the fielder's rhythm, setup(shuffle), AND positioning of the baseball for the throw. You even patted at the start of your last setup demo just before the end of your presentation. I wouldn't doubt you do it the same when you play(ed) and coach, because it's kind of becomes engrained during your growth. To me it's like, 'the good ones do it'. That first pat right after the pickup as you start to get the shoulders and feet around and in-line... It can even be somewhat difficult to keep your hands together the whole time during setup to separation. The caviat for me and a lot of guys was ONE pat(close hands), not two or three. During the setup, one other part of the pat is 'spinning' or turning the baseball to get fingers across the seams and seated properly so that it can better stay up(carry). I learned 'spinning' the baseball during setup a long time, ago, and fortunately was able to use it, teach it, and see it for my reports. The pat is a natural part of fielding for advanced players(like you) - one time usually though, and close hands, for many plays. It happens on first or second left foot-down(depending on how the player fielded it) and that's it. Now, the folks who do the whole wide-hands and multiple pats stuff - showoff maybe??? ...liked this video a lot coach, and if you were referring to something I missed, my apologies.

Not sure why there are thumbs down votes on this video! Very solid and simple explanations for some of the most important fundamentals of playing infield! This 10-12U coach thanks you!
Another reason to avoid patting your glove is it's introducing opportunities for someone to mishandle the ball. If you take extra steps, you can make sure your grip is ready to go when you need to throw
Not patting the glove is understandable. Easy plays, not a big deal. On a fast runner or close play, it's not good so it's best to avoid. The Mets had a catcher years ago who use to pat his mitt on throws back to the pitcher. I can tell you, when the league found out they stole bases on those throwbacks a lot. Don't get into bad habits from the start, they are hard to break.
A good thing that I have to help with patting your glove is a Velcro glove that sticks to tennis balls and if the tennis ball hits the glove it sticks to it
Back flat is fine for me, but how you present your glove is more important in my opinion. My back angle could be perfect but if my glove isn't presented in front of me then it doesn't really matter
Patting your glove is also a bad habit. You even see pros doing this. When they bare hand a ball, instead of picking the ball up & throwing it to the base or cutoff man, they pat their glove before throwing it. Why?!! They waste 1 to 2 seconds...
Hey ultimate baseball not pretending to be an expert but when ur fielding ground balls I’m pretty sure u want your off hand to the side of you glove not on top as you were doing.

Anyone notice how nice this outfield grass is for a little league feild
Can we see you actually field live grounds balls?

Patting your glove is not bad in routine grounder balls. It can allow you to fell rhythm and keep your feet moving.
i have a really bad habbit of dropping to my knee
37 hops ? 😂
I am distracted by the flying white dots in the background

Thanks for tuning in! I hope you enjoy!

Too much Talk and no action
Patting your glove is showboating actually.
I pat it to get cadence with my feet and gather and it makes me slow down when I have time instead of rushing and dicking up a easy throw.
Shhhhhh, you talk toooo much!!!!!!!
No u shush
That’s literally the point of the video is that he is telling you tips 😐
