Even more than 15 years later, original Naxxramas is still the absolute BiS for me. Best level design, best music, best looking bosses, best classic lore, best use of 40m configuration, best atmosphere, etc. Truly a masterpiece ! Yes there is Ulduar ofc, but Naxx will forever be my favorite !
I agree. I only played WOTLK Naxx originally and I thought it was cool but not great because it was tuned down far too much, which made it less immersive and less "scary". The difficulty just didn't match the theme or music.
Then, I played Vanilla Naxx and it became my favorite raid of all time.
Is your avatar altars of madness??
@@darckben999 My favorit album
Agreed. Wonder how it will be on SoM, completely without world buffs. Some of the fights was downright brutal with AQ40 gear and little frost res (looking at you Sapphiron). The difficulty level is completely there, it's just that the amount of power you get from world buffs and consumables is other-worldly
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but like everyone else in the comments here I cannot understand the low BWL ranking. Very fun raid imo with a dope atmosphere and some excellent loot and iconic items. It's the classic D&D adventure going into a dragon's lair taking out their lackeys before facing off against them at the top of a mountain/tower/etc.
edit: also I didn't even play melee so DFT isn't influencing my view of BWL.
Bwl by far 2nd best after Naxx. AQ worst raid ever.
100% agree
But that tear tho....
Can't deny some bias as a caster
@@Deszigames i can, i was a healer :P
Rejuve gem was nice, but not nearly as important as tear for casters or dft for physical
I loved BWL, but I did play a rogue, so I never really had massive threat issues and when it came to the supression room I always loved being THE rogue who you could count on to ALWAYS have the traps down.
True, a backstab rogue would probably rank BWL a lot higher than Willie if not just for vaelstab and supp room
A rogue that does more than constantly ask someone to post the damage meters in Classic....Pics or it didn't happen. 😛
HIGHLY disagree on bwl, yes the supression room was awful and 3 bosses looked exactly the same but the raid was short the trash was manageable and bosses had interesting mechanics (nef, razorgore, chromaggus), oh and most importantly the loot had some of the best designed weapons and tier sets till this day
I have a grudge against that place for never dropping that stupid xbow until the one week i come help out on my priest raaaage tbh not the worst by a long shot but my god is it a good way to see if people are actually pay attention
@@Typhoonis88 This comment is in English, but it isn't. What?
@@Typhoonis88 damn that sounds exactly the same as my guildmate, which server did you play on
@@Bishox Arugal
@@Typhoonis88 ah just a coincidence then
As tank, BWL is only behind Naxx, and BT for me. T4 and T5 are extremely boring to tank, while BWL is full of tank-centric mechanics. The perspective REALLY changes depending on the class you play. Also, no other raid does so much to caracterize the big bad with it's environmental storytelling as BWL. Only TK gets anywhere close, and that's very much the same trope, with A'lar being somewhat anlogue to chromaggus, except chromaggus just has so much more going on in terms of telling you about what Nefarian is up to.
For me Karazahn was just the best. The lore behind it, the music that welcomes you. All the weird ecounters. Like, this raid have it all. It just feels like you are really in this magic castle, that is in nowhere and there live this old, wise mage that in the end lost his mind. This raid is just soooooooo climatic.
I agree. Karazhan is the best raid in Classic WoW for me, and that's probably because of how atmospheric it is. The music, the lore, the ambience, the tower ascent, the theatre, the optional and bonus bosses, the dialogue.. it's just so whimiscal and fantastic
Its also the perfect introduction raid for new players. The first boss is practically free, and the bosses are incredibly varied and really scale up in difficulty the further you get. Every boss tests the raid on one or at most two specific mechanics without ever really repeating anything. No boss is overly complicated.
Could have used a grading rubric here perhaps. Rank each on atmosphere, trash, difficulty, final boss, length, etc. all I wanted was Kara on top 3 though so I’m happy.
With a good Raid BWL is super fun trying to go below 30 min. To clear is a nice goal to chase
On retail I got Garr's binding on the first run when doing some tmog runs
I went and got everything else needed for thunderfury and it took another 2 years before the 2nd binding dropped from Baron Geddon
same but its been 10 years and still haven't gotten 2nd binding
1. Naxxramas
2. BWL
3. Sunwell
4. Black Temple
5. SSC
6. Magtheridon's Lair
7. Karazhan
etc
Not having Naxx #1 is a crime.
SWP>Naxx bedge
Having Mag above Karazhan is the real crime here.
@@eChuckNorris I only put it low because of what Karazhan was supposed to be vs what we ended up getting.
If you played warrior in classic you definitely loved BWL, ZG, and Nax way more then other classes. Nothing beats just going full zug zug mode and grinding all mobs into dust or ripping threat because you're a dps God and the healers know it so they keep an eye on you and manage to save you. Still remember when I got top 10 highest dps on Shazz in a pug. Told everyone in discord I was going to pop everything and the tank said "let him die if he does " I knew a few of the healers and they kept me up. Man was raging but definitely a core memory. Classic was a good time.
I agree with most of your list, but I'd put BWL up higher. What got me really surprised is how much fun Sun Well Plateau is! Naxx still #1 though 😁
the one thing i liked about hyjal was that its outdoors. there arent many raids that are in the open and i really like the visuals of hyjal... but yea, gameplay was annoying.
Totally. The zone itself is so cool; it's a bummer about the mechanics.
Hyjal has amazing atmosphere and lore... but everything else about it suuuuuucks
I liked Hyjal but I got brought into an elite raiding guild just to heal for it and felt like I was running with the big boys at the time. It was epic. Fond memories.
To this day, I keep organizing weekly PUGs into Naxx so people can get their T3/Ashbringer/Phylactery before deletion, and I'm still not tired of the place. Can't wait to farm its achievements in Wrath!
How much easier is it with TBC tier gear?
@@Johnnydhee You can 25-man it pretty easily, maybe even 20-man if you have enough good healers/tanks

My tbc list. Fury warrior.
#1 SWP
#2 SSC
#3 BT
#4 TK
#5 Magtheridon
#6 ZA
#7 Karazhan
#8 Gruul
#9 World bosses
#10 Mount Hyjal
Some of the heroics are really fun too in tbc, almost better than some of the raids. Especially during early progression.
Didn't play WoW Classic or TBCC but have thoroughly loved your videos in regards to both.
Great vid! And its not surprising that the last raids are the best. Classic released with 1.12 tuning which was released with Naxx, same with TBC and the same will happen with Wotlk and ICC.
It's rare to see anyone mention a product I actually use in ads. Instant gaming has been my go-to shit for a while now, highly recommend it.
Fun fact: along with UBRS Scholomance also started as a 10-man raid!
Stratholme as well
AQ20 and 40 are my favorites mostly because of the alien atmosphere. They never recaptured that anywhere else imo. The ancient Egypt+bugs combo just works for me.
Gameplay wise they aren't the best ofc.
AQ40 is one of my favs. I'd put it in top 3 somewhere between the classic/tbc raids
Cut out maybe like the trash packs between Twins and C'thun and it would be right up there imo
AQ40 had the best atmosphere of any raid
Pretty good ranking. Was happy to see Naxx 40 at the top. I had no SWP experience back in the day, so I wasn't very excited going in when P5 launched. Was pleasantly surprised at how much it exposed flaws in your raid (whether it was players or comp). Makes you dial-in or gtfo. Just like I remember the majority of BC to be back in the day. Good stuff.
LMAO, got to his thoughts on BWL and was flabbergasted! came down to the comments to say something and saw that everyone else was shocked too
"I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them." if I only knew that wow classic would be one of the best moments in my life for me(
My first Classic Raid Experience was Gruul, just went with my guildies before even hitting 70. The second one was Khara a week later, and god damn Kharazan is fun
Thinking back to original vanilla, BC, and WotLK: I enjoyed MC, BWL, 10-man Naxx, and Ulduar the most. Why? The people I did them with.
Oh, I was always main hunter. I was a puller, kiter, and Class Officer with a couple guilds. Good times!
thanks willie!
Karazhan is the best raid ever created in wow. It's unique boss encounters, ambiance and music just makes the entire experience a masterpiece 10/10. I recently encountered something similar while playing Lost Ark when I did the Phantasmal Palace, which is literally a house of mirrors, with illusions and very unique and cool encounters. Gave me some mad Kara vibes.
My favorite Raid for first time is Naxx closely followed by Kara, atmosphere is my thing not difficulty because the game is just easy let's be real. AQ40 has also an amazing atmosphere. My favorite Raids for farming are Moltencore, BWL and SSC + TK all 3 raids are easy on farm so you can just have some fun in voice channel and relaxe.
This ^
For me Kara will always be number one. So yeah. With the end of tbc my favourite raid will never be played again by myself. Hoping for classic + with tbc content
Imagine having friends to play with, hell even random people to play with
I agree with all your stuff EXCEPT ZG will always be my favorite. We did a PUG speed run on Windseeker in classic on horde side. We cleared the whole thing except madness in 27 minutes multiple times. It will forever be my favorite experience
ZG pugs was good times
BWL is one of my favorite raids of all time. The issues you listed I think were a problem for our raid team for like 1-2 weeks. Even hopping in on pugs in the later phases it didn't feel like suppression room or threat on the dragons was ever really an issue. To me it was very much a "crack open a couple of drinks with your buds" type of pug raid. I honestly miss it a lot.
If anyone can help me identify the add-on that is being used at 9:32 there are lines on his cast/swing timer. Trying to identify what add-on add those and what they are for. Thank you
Classic Naxx was great, was tied with Ulduar for a very long time as my favourite raid until Throne of Thunder came out, which still hasn’t been topped for me.
BWL aesthetics was very nice as it was the research labs of dragons right above a volcano. I think the only down point is the two loot bag dragons with no mechanics, right after firemaw which had the one thing that people had to switch onto. Lots of very very clean kills on firemaw.
Naxx is my all time Favorite, the atmosphare, the music and the characters are great and i Look forward to wotlk.
I agree with BWL. Going into Classic, it was the raid I looked forward to the most. It is the pinnacle of the Blackrock Mountain story and overall experience! I never did it before, but seen it often in old WoW videos so it was still pretty core to my WoW nostalgia. My first shock was how small it is. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't need to be any longer, but I was expecting more of a BRD experience, not just a long corridor. I didn't mind the bosses or trash as much. They did break my first guild, but my first guild was shit, though even in a better guild I've dealt with plenty of Firemaw frustration.
The worst offenders however were loot and how long we had to do it as endgame content. Doing it troughout phase 3 was fine, doing it trough all of phase 4 as well was torture, and you had to do it because it (theoretically) dropped better loot than ZG. Having to wait trough June, July and then all of the war effort was when my motivation to keep playing was probably the lowest for purely gameplay reasons.
To make things worse, the raid kept taunting us with amazing loot tables that never dropped anything good. I'd say it was just bad luck for my guild, but it seemed like every guild was getting almost no weapons or anything good. If I had one BiS weapon for every ten taut dragonhide bullcrap that dropped, I would still have more BiS weapons than all of our DPS got from that raid over 2 phases of grind. Some items like The Untamed Blade or Mantle of Blackwing Cabael from Razorgore just never dropped, not in a single lockout in 2 phases we raided there.
BWL was a surprise. It's one of my favorite raids for me def in top 3. It just has an atmosphere. Ulduar, BWL, Kara i just so love these (i know Wotlk was not included but my 3 favs).
As a Warlock I enjoyed Mount Hyjal back in the day. We had to curse every single mob…
BWL is one of my favorite raids. Started playing wow mid phase one. MC was a joke and BWL actually gave my guild hard time. And as a tank I loved all bosses. AQ40 is also one of favorite - we had 40+ wipes on twins and they are still my favorite boss.
I hated T5 by the way and not due to the wipes. Agree with MH being the worst. It was fun to experience old WC3 zone, but only for the first time
Seeing a ret paladin at 4th on damage on the final boss of an expansion makes 13 year old me so happy. Who woulda thought the "joke spec" in original tbc would be so good with just a little bit of min maxing 😂 I knew I was on to something back in 2008!
It’s hard to look back fondly on any of the raids after doing each one for so many weeks.
1-button rotation class review. Just kidding, great content as well, mate.
Loot being good or not depends a lot on your class though. MH has several pre-sunwell bis items for hunter :(
SWP was the most challenging and rewarding
NAXX was the most fun and nostalgic
BWL was the most replayable and never got old
yeah, i'd forget hyjal too
We still haven't got a single glaive in our guild runs :)
Totally agree. I'm looking up to going to Sunwell all week. It's hard and satisfying AF
you didnt even mention the best part of black temple... the music is fuckin AWESOME
The way I look at it... the memes during Classic BWL era were the best, and for that, BWL wins the spot as top tier. I still cannot get over the genius of "Ett Kilo Mjol" format 😂
is instant gaming safe?
what would you say is an S tier raid to you if there wasn't any in classic or tbc so far?
Probably Ulduar, it checks all his boxes and classes are fun to play in wotlk. I'll be shocked if it's not number one for him after Wrath finishes up
Little to nothing is fun or interesting on farm imo. What does spice it up though is the idea of speedrunning, even if the level of difficulty is low. Watching the top guilds perform these live with military precision is just great aswell.
Nevertheless, me being a casual player who clear and have cleared the raids just occasionly it have been quite cool- all of them. AQ even being a feast of trash and travel, i think it adds to the experience (let me repeat: nothing is fun on farm).
Other than you mixing SWp and BWL ranking I find the list agreeable. BWL was and is fun and atmospheric where as SWP is just a chore. I pretty much prefer binding runs to running sunwell.
No raid ever made in WoW to this day, in my opinion, beats Karazhan! Sure many other raid have fun bosses and a cool theme, but Karazhan is the only raid ever to truly feel like a D&D adventure. Like you're teaming with a group of adventurers to brave this old haunted castle, with all the areas and rooms and bosses and even trash mobs meticulously crafted to feel like it's a real place, with stables, servants' quarters, libraries, etc. And not just a big wide place to raid and do mechanics and get loot. It was designed by the same guy who made BRD which has the same feel, but he took it to 11 and it's even better cause it's a raid. Best raid ever in WoW!
Kara will always be my number one. The reason I was hyped for tbc
For me, Sunwell isn't really that fun. Even after you get M'uru down on the 85th attempt you just sit back and realize that the atmosphere wasn't even really that great. The trash is annoying and the gear, while certainly stated really well, visually looks worse in most cases when compared to the previous two phases of tbc. Also, when looking at Sunwell vs Naxx-40 for the end of expac raid to really push your character, Naxx-40 just felt better overall for pushing parses.
It is hard for me to separate the insufferable consume grind on Nax from the raiding experience itself, as well as my guild at the time breaking up. The former went away when I found a new guild that was not "progressing" on Loatheb anymore and I didn't need to bring 20+ shadow pots per week. Def feel more middling about Nax though.
Twins and C'Thun on AQ40 have always felt like really cool fights to me, so I am a little more lenient toward them. BWL should have gotten more love.
I do really believe you missed the classic world buff warrior moment. That class took the buffs to the limit and it felt like being an actual super hero.
Having raided on a lot of classes with world buffs, none hurt as much to lose as warrior did. With the insane damage you did and being in melee, you were always on the verge of dying.
That makes raids like BWL/AQ40 move way up my list.
So glad Naxx ranked as highest Classic raid. Id have placed BWL much higher, as its fun to pump on a gear'd & buffed Fury Warrior
Nax was my favorite, AQ20 was my least favorite but I loved BWL, also didnt mention ZG did he?
so what makes you like raids is something short/skippable, accessible to alts e.g. no attunements and easy with good loot? lol
1. Sunwell
2. Naxx
3. Bwl
4. BT
5. Ssc
6. Zg/za
7. Tk
8. Aq40
9. Mc
10. Aq20
You not liking BWL makes me wonder what class you played in classic. As a warrior BWL was an absolute BLAST
Edit: oh you played a warlock... well obviously no raid in classic is fun as a lock lol
I played a lock in classic and loved BWL. Hitting huge numbers on shadow vulnerable dragonkin…oh man. Maybe my favorite raid tbh
Lol, same. As a moonkin having arcane vulnerable dragons. That place was numbers, babe!
Loved MC and BWL. ZG was great too. Hated AQ so so much.
WHAT?? Bwl is fun as hell!
I love blasting bwl too
Wille be biased towards SWP cause he's playing a proper fun dps class now KEKW
Best raid is doing MC with blue/green gear at phase 1.
Nice. :) MC, including for this reason, might just always be the most memorable raid for me. First, and iconic raiding experience (in any game). And real rewards coming from pre-bis gear (or greens), like you said.
Gotta say, I dunno how you can put sunwell even in the top 5. Love kara and naxx though, so you did well overall. :-)
Nooo AQ20 that low? I have a thing for the AQ setting maybe but I love that raid.
naxx 40 man was awesome
BWL is the fuel that set the fire under ALL of the great raiding we've experienced over the last 15 years and doesn't deserve to be that low on the list. At least from a true Vanilla perspective, the sheer terror of stepping into Razorgore's room on the first night of progression is enough to give it a high bar of praise. AQ40 on the other hand...put that bloated filler raid crap in some F tier trashcan.
Correct order:
15: Hyjal
14: AQ20
13: Onyxia
12: AQ40
11: MC
10: Gruul / Mag
9: TK
8: BT
7: BWL
6: ZA
5: SSC
4: ZG
3: Sunwell
2: Naxx
1. Kara
BWL is definitly higher for me. SSC and TK I would move down on my list. MC still holds a high spot for me. Nothing has quite lived up to that very first rag kill all those years ago.
I've done every classic raid from to SWP recently (and wotlk but that doesn't count again yet:P) I'd have to say for me ZG is the absolute worst one, I'd rank ZA much higher than it and I'd rank AQ quite high as well for me its gotta be SWP > AQ40 > Naxx > BT > SSC for a top 5 also didn't see AQ20 on that list or am I just baked?
Yes, AQ20 was near the bottom - can't remember the exact rank, but you can quickly skim through the video to find it again.
I really loved Phase 2 TBCC, 2.5 killed all motivation for me by trivializing the content. Phase 3 was a massive disappointment due to the nerfed state on release. Phase 5 has been awesome though, I love that every fight can kill you within the raid.
Raids were ok. The experience was good or bad depending on how good your raid team was. I've been playing classic with a speed run guild, and we get in and get out. I agree that Hyjal is a pretty terrible experience, but none of these other raids felt terrible with such an experienced team of players that almost never wipes even when laughing and drinking in discord all night.
Original Naxx was first in, best dressed.
Cheers to raiding with Questie Tracker visible
Absolutely agree on BWL, re running that was miserable
BWL is my 2nd favorite vanilla raid D:
I've had a lot more fun raiding in TBC than in Classic. BWL and Naxx were fun though.
Regardless of anything, i think KT is the best boss fight design and im happy we downed him pre nerf
As a warrior main in vanilla classic, i thought BWL was a super good raid.
I feel like ranking BWL so low isn't a popular choice, but I agree with you tbh, I can't say I looked forward to running it
As a hpriest... kinda hated running it lol. Snooze fest of a raid, and not in the way MC was. Idk, not a fan.
I do not enjoy challenging content that much. A bit is fine but I always liked the "Playing while talking" aspect more.
well yeah if you ignore the awe factor and exploration, there basically wasn't really any content. later xpacks basically remove all detail from mobs other then models and flashy particles. so only talking about loot access and clear speed as a good note, might as well just play a game with no levels or gear that just is pure do rotation and kill thing for ladder points to see where you stack up. must be the new mmo, we shall call it, dungeon and raid simulation ladder edition. spoiler, it isn't a rpg or mmo. it will just be a q button. the characters can be vegetables.
my opinions is go the reverse route and make the leveling process and mobs so intricate you can get lost in the world and no guide could be long enough to fully explain everything about it. modify the level gap powers so that 4 levels doesn't mean ur a god over something. have more levels and add more unique complexity to things while still being simple outright. that way being max level basically doesn't start the game and really being max level shouldn't be a requirement in the first place for basically anything.
like in classic there can be a item or skill and a solution to that item or skill in something else. more complexity to npcs instead of just existing in the world to walk around like loot piñatas. more emphasis on information gathering or elemental typing.
elementals/undead being immune to bleed, makes perfect sense. why was that detail of the game removed, well because damage. if that is the attitude of the average player they aren't playing an rpg they are playing a damage simulator that in turn is playing them. the depth of the interactions is what makes it interesting, remove that and all you have left is a few buttons and a lot of waiting and running.
if you keep cutting details and interactions out of the game because it is an inconvenience eventually all u have left is clicker heroes or afk arena. i don't see people all talking about those games. they are so optimized and user friendly.
Kara #1 on atmosphere alone.
Naxxramas 40 is my #1 forever.
BWL is my favorite. Up there with Ulduar in the best WoW raids of all time.
Naxx was pretty good for sure.
I don't get the appeal of Karazhan. I don't like it at all.
Naxx40, and Kara for me
for me:
AQ40
SWP
Naxx
Kara
ZA
ZG
BT
BWL
and then a huge dropoff before everything else
I really wouldn't put SWP that high. The raid is fine, but outside of everything being tuned super high (compared to the rest of TBC) there's not much to talk about. No matter how many times i do BWL, i'll never find it as annoying as doing AQ40. Whoever designed the trash packs after Twins can go step on a lego. Naxx is still me best raid in Classic.
I hated healing AQ40 as a Holy Pally. Boss healing not super interesting and I felt like I spent hours rezzing on trash
I mostly agree with this list with 1 major caveat:
I unfortunately had a RL surprise and had to move due to landlord wanting to sell the house I was renting shortly after we started doing SSC, so I never got to re-play the eye, hyjal, ZA, and Sunwell. HOWEVER, my vanilla wow impressions were the exact same as classic across the board, so I don't think things would have changed too much, with my one questionable choice is non-hatred for hyjal. I was not in a super sweaty guild the first, or the 2nd time around, so I don't know how boring and long the wait times for trash in hyjal would be. I do remember the first time though they were entertaining enough though, and I rather liked the dungeon.
That said, I always hated BWL. Not just the 1 oops = wipe mechanics, but the whole dungeon is just a bore to look at, the trash is boring, the suppression room is boring, guaranteed deaths on vael is lame, nef's trash is boring. Thank god nef is easy but good lord if you wipe on him waiting for him to respawn sucked, and while the loot is generally better than MC, it doesn't really seem THAT much better considering how much harder it is. MC on the other hand has way more bosses, so even when you're late clearing BWL, you feel like someone is getting upgrades in mc more often. I mean MC has some super amazing drops too, not just TF. Like the belt from rag is actually a bigger deal than DFT, and that damn bow from chrommagus, and and.. MC always ha ssomething you are excited to drop from start to finish. But I felt like BWL was basically just dft and styleens
I don't remember what ZA was like, but I didn't like ZG simply because of the stupid coins and bijous. I don't know about you, but as a dagger rogue, ZG had basically nothing of value for me that I recall from start to end, all I wanted were bijous and coins, and I did so many runs where I only got like 1-3.. ffs.
That and once again, non sweaty group. The trash before Hakkar with the fast respawning pats and stuff. Dear god I swear every time there was someone drunk or high or something that kept pulling like 5 groups every effing time.
nice life story, who asked
@@thekyleprojekt7996 cute. I dont have my own wow channel but like talking about it so I make do with a comment in a channel with people who care about wow.

Never raided in Vanilla (started 3 months before TBC originally dropped) and with World Buffs and ZERO raid variation (stacking rogues and wars) I had zero desire to raid in Classic. Maybe if classic had the class balance of TBC or Wrath it would be different...
Now, TBC. Agree on Hjal. I would actually place SSC below TK. Outside of the annoying MC mobs, it was short and trash didn't take forever. Hated SSC due to the amount of trash to clear. Boss fights were fun, but screw the trash. BT was a bit too trash heavy, but that's just due to the size. Once the shortcut got implemented it was fine. Mag/Gruul I enjoyed. A few trash pulls and then boss. The cube mechanic was annoying, but after the nerfs/badge change it was very alt friendly. Especially for pvp gear. Sunwell was fun boss wise, but the trash....WAY TOO MUCH and a bit too difficult for what trash is supposed to be. ZA and Kara...well, I love 10 mans so yeah...
Aq 20 best raid of vanilla and better raid than any wotlk raid.
bwl second worst raid is straight up blasphemous
you say MH is the worst raid of all time?
I raise you ToC, Emerald Nightmare, Uldir and mogu'shan vaults
