i hoped for more things to discover than new class skills (runes) and altered raids, since those are things i care the least for. I wanted actual mysteries, maybe new quest lines or dungeons. Something that makes the way to max level interesting again. Like the sleeping bag quest line.

Designing a dungeon has 2 very big issues. 1 what makes you think that the devs would add a dungeon just for a phase of a seasonal server of wow after 20 years. It is a really tough decision if you think that it must be original and anything could be criticized for the next 20 years as why did they make THIS specific dungeon and not any other dungeon. Also a dungeon from scratch needs too much development, the maps the mobs the bosses their spells the loot etc, it would burn away lot of focus, i sure agree with the above but i think just making a dungeon to say you made one wouldnt be something as special as some imagine it. If there was something unfinished i would love it to be completed but i just dont see it there. Last to give you an idea personally i was thinking something the can do and use is the emerald dream map in a "waves" dungeon like black moras or violet gold where you stand at a point the environment is walled surrounding and mobs come to you. That would use something existand but doesnt really sound special

@@shifterashtongue2684 Agreed. There is a reason so much of the original intended content didn't make it into vanilla - money. Because why spend time developing those zones etc for existing subs when you could package them into an expansion and sell it to existing subs + attract more people?
New quests in the open world/existing dungeons is totally possible though, and we've actually seen quite a lot of that between the sleeping bag and class rune quests.

@@cecilofs yes and the brd rainbow generator easter egg. The only unused entrance would be the underwater portal in aszhara, nowhere else there is a place where you can fit a dungeon entrance and not violate vanilla. I could also understand that there are 3 locations with sealed doors, gilneas, uldum and timbermaw hold. Timbermaw hold id love to see as a zone but all those 3 could maybe reworked in a dungeon of a vanilla old version of those places, but again all those are risky, maybe they make vanilla look like circus and not vanilla anymore, cant make mistakes if you dont take actions, the decisions those people take today will be talked about the next 20 years

I kinda chuckled a bit when you said "new" abilities. The only new things I saw was the healing mage, tank rogue, tank sham, and tank lock. When sod first started and I watched all the creaters asking for abilities we already had. How about we ask for new content? The community killed it when they can't look passed their nostalgia. Everyone quit because it not really new.
Sod can be boiled down to whos main ability is a rune and how often can you press it. The more you can press it, the higher the dps. They don't cost any resources and hit way to hard.

P1 was the most fun I've had in WoW since 2019. Then it felt like the retail team took over. Even incursions are exactly like that mid expansion patch world quest addition they've done for 10 years.

I'm just GLAD that WOW is Alive and Well!!!
I remember saying to myself YEARS ago... When the chasm between Retail players and Classic players was growing... Particularly during the Nostalrius debacle... That WOW *NEEDED* to diversify itself!!! Because put simply... No two WOW players were the same anymore!!!
Some liked a Slow... Challenging... Methodical grind... On par with the old table top RPGs... Whereas others wanted a more "arcade" style of fast, quick and easy gameplay... And in between all that, some preferred collecting stuff and achievements... While others liked to explore new areas in the game... I mean the list just goes on and on and on!!!
So yes... I'm just glad following that infamous "You think you do but you don't" remark by Blizzard, that they came around, and have now given us multiple ways to enjoy this much beloved franchise!
Right now, I'm fighting the urge to jump back into WOW (I'm a Hardcore addict!!!!)... Because I have more important Real Life commitments to do first! But considering that I've been playing since 2004/5... WOW is VERY much alive and relevant! Despite some aspects of it being a VERY old game!
Long Live World of Warcraft!!! In ALL it forms! 😁

Some may return... Some players are just born Retailers... Whereas others are just born Classic'ers (is that even a word?! 😁) who tend to stick to a specific flavour of the game.
It's the floating players, chasing the latest "hype" who stride both and thus skew the results!
The last time I played Retail was Legion... And I haven't looked back since! So no... Not everyone leaves because the hype train has left the station.
We just have a HUGE variety of different players... Who play the game for different reasons...
Which is why I wince when people keep generalising us as "WOW players" because even though we play WOW, we are NOT one homogenous block!

Vanilla is great because its a full game at launch. Sure, its missing a few raids that came out way later, but everything else is there. Retail, and by extension SoD, has a very narrow scope (20-30ish% of what the game will eventually be) with a limited amount of content that you are supposed to do repeatedly until the powers that be decide you get more. Each content update is nothing more than a few dungeons, a raid, and some slightly shinier gear. Segmenting the world into phases contradicts having a world
Early SoD was ok, at best. runes and new, well optimized, gear quickly ruined the balance of power between players and mobs that makes vanilla leveling so fun and engaging. Just like retail, no care was given to the levels between the level caps
Vanilla isn't perfect. Some specs are terrible, world buffs, 1 button rotations, etc. and needs some minor touch-ups here and there. Vanilla needs some help in the end game, but is pretty much perfect on the way there.

Changing the raid format in season 3 was a catastrophe, keeping consistancy through the whole thing would have been important. Every raid is on pause, every character I had is level 50 due to incursions, there is absolutely nothing to do right now, and will people come back from their break, not so sure..there has to be spectacular discoveries and new stuff at 60 for that.. I'm zero interested in doing the old classic raids as they were once again just for different loot. I hope Blizzard will note how succesful phase 1 was in their next seasonal effort and keep the leveling process as long as 1 to 25 was.

Phase 1 was successful because 1-25 took no effort and the early game zones are so engaging. Phase 2 was succesful because of pvp. Phase 3 is when blizzard showed they have nothing. 1-25 has always been fun and engaging in classic. otherwise the game wouldn't be popular and never would have seen 20 years. PvP is popular in every game. Default characteristics of vanilla are what made phase 1 and 2 succesful, blizzard didn't have to "do" anything.

Input on a few things that are talked about in the video.
    - The Wild Offering question: this could have easily been sorted by just giving every single boss wild offering in their loot table and to disable raid groups in dungeons (sure, players would min-max which dungeon is best, but it would still give incentive to play every dungeon at max lvl)
    - The Tank question: I think it is partially that most tank specs are horrible with AoE threat in classic, even in Seasons of Discovery. A warrior tank that uses a Thunder Clap rune that buffs the damage by 100%, still deals horrible AoE and is capped to 4 targets. Compare this to protection paladin or enhancement shaman once they got their AoE lightning shield rune, much easier to tank with these two.
    - The Raid Size question: Most people that play WoW nowadays are older and do not have access to 20 or 40 friends. A lot of my friends stopped playing because they "only wanted to chill play with friends" (which they could do in 10 man). In 20 or 40 man raids it is usually very silent on Discord to focus on strategy/raid leader talking and thus not very sociable from my experience. In Cata they got 10 and 25 man raids so that both players can play the way they like and in retail the bosses scale with amount of players = form your raid however you like.
    - The Runes question: there is no "discovery" and there is no "fun" in running across Azeroth for 2 hours to get a rune that is must have for PvE content (Dark Riders rune quest e.g.)
    - The Incursions question: A lot of people play classic for the leveling aspect, or at least find it the most fun. Incursions felt like a retail mechanic were you skipped "classic content" in order to rush and maximize profit.
    - The World Buffs question: I refuse to believe that even 10% of the player base enjoys to idle in a city to wait for a buff, or to travel the world/dungeons to try and get as many buffs as possible.
To me, it just feels as if SoD is a playground for the developers to test things on the cost of the consumer, while not really caring about the outcome (such as the huge delay of p4 and lack of content in p3). They kind of killed Ashenvale pvp too by making revered to exalted reputation purely based on daily quests, instead of just lowering the amount of reputation you get from each boss/mob you kill during the event if you are revered. Super easy solution, still it was not implemented.

@@TheUhmmmmmmmm the argument i heard from someone about why such inflation is they say it was to combat botting.
      1. not allow new accounts for 30 days to use AH and the likes
      2. inflate the economy, so what bots earned until now is less valuable
      3. they ramped up their response to bots, banning more (yes, sometimes innocents get caught when they shouldn't)
so if you look at it this way, this could be one explanation as to why
or they were just lazy, or both.
still P4 is different: you really shouldn't do incursions all the way to 60.
maximum 55, you go to BRD, do MC attune, ony attune, try to get preBIS, do LBRS, UBRS and all of that.
might even argue to leave incursion at 54.

Can't say I've played to check on the 30 day thing but I'm sure they have thousands of accounts dormant at this point just waiting for timers to tick.

The shift to 20 raids pretty much killed my raid group. We were a tight nit group of 7-8 people and we didn't manage to fully build a decent 20-man group in time.
About half the people we ended up finding ultimately turned out to be grey parsers who were also quite resistant to improving, I'm talking single digits, below the tank in DPS, and we weren't prepared for all the stress and drama that sort of thing caused on a weekly basis. Wipes due to mechanical errors and insufficient dps or hps, etc.. We also didn't want to start throwing people out and dealing with that drama. So a couple of good performers ended up leaving, and we didn't see a future with only the worst of the worst remaining. We didn't go into SoD with the expectation we would be reliving intense week-to-week performance and parsing drama, on top of having to fill 20-man raids with randoms of *at best* inconsistent performance.
For me personally, the incursions also killed my motivation to level my alts. I constantly felt like I was wasting time doing regular leveling and not choosing the optimal way, but I'm not into this excessively optimized incursion grinding with all kinds of weakauras etc. involved, that's just not the way things are supposed to be. But that's just me. In a way I don't enjoy optimizing too much, but I can't stop myself from feeling like I'm missing out if I don't do it.

Sheesh. SoD felt more like classic wow with a retail wow twist, which isn't a bad thing but it's not what I was looking for. Doesn't help that the WoW community has hit insane levels of sweaty, I really cannot stand raid logs and the parsing mentality, and while I know I could look for a casual guild to avoid that stuff it's just a mildly daunting prospect. Going into SoD I was hoping for vanilla wow PLUS, not vanilla wow gone wild. Been keeping an eye on SoD though, the potential is there to bring me back, but idk if Blizz will course correct to tap into it. The other big factor is We knew level 50 was gonna be a weird bracket no matter what they did as we're so close to level 60 anyway, combined with them mentioning it was effectively a beta test a while back means they are learning as they go and making up stuff along the way.
I suspect once SoD concludes we may very well see a really well put together version of Classic, at least one can hope, for now though, back to enjoying the fact that we have a bunch of versions of WoW to choose from, reminds me when Private servers were at their peak a decade ago.

Honestly if phase 2 was 1 or 2 weeks longer and Phase 3 would let's say end in 2 weeks (around 20th) there would be no issues, that said Nightmare incursios are something that should not be in the game in the form they are implemented, completely trivializing game world content and funneling people into one activity, because it is simply the best for both gold and xp per hour.
I understand that this is seasonal content and things can be speed up, but this is still vanilla and I think that simple buff to xp and gold is really enough.

SoD died for me the day I went to Arathi Highlands to level on my main in P2 and there were a grand total of 3 other players in my faction questing. Every zone was so incredibly dead due to the SM grinding. Now its just the same with incursions... P1 was awesome because there was no other option but to level in the OpenWorld and it forced interaction with the environment and with the player base. I honestly think SoD would have been saved if they put a smaller lockout for instances like they did for hardcore. Force people into the questing for questing sake. Instead we got quests for mandatory runes (sleeping bags) that take you all over the world and then incursions that are copy/paste and too easy to level.

The raid size of wow has always been the underlying factor for fun. 20-40 people just isn’t fun to deal with that many personalities. 10 is definitely the comfort zone for most people. Cata is glaring proof of this. And when mop makes 20 man mandatory it will once again shatter the communities built on small group content. There is a reason why mythic is just slowly dwindling down and it’s because finding 20 top tier players is difficult. We want fun raids with some difficulty mixed with mechanics that don’t punish the entire raid when your buddy messes up.

Everyone loved P1 because it was easy to level, you got a lot of upgrades quickly and people were playing in Safe zones, it all started to fall apart when Wpvp came in to play in contested zones and the leveling became longer and more time consuming
I feel maybe the Warmode idea could be good as iv seen a lot of people moaning on PVP servers about being camped at incursions, hence why they offered up Free Xfers, I could see this becomming a probelm in P1 so i moved to a PVE server. I also think that lowering the amount of XP needed by 20-30% as well as a 50% increase gained buff would be nice to speed up the process and make leveling alts even easier.

well yeah it's just not enough to do and dragging it on for too long. the complaint about 1 week lockouts i don't understand though.. with the relative ease of leveling alts, you could easily be raiding 2-3 times a week if you wanted to unless the complaint is about gearing quickly but after never missing a single lockout i still didn't get all bis in p1 or p2. maybe i'm extremely unlucky. just going off how i felt and not the actual length of the phases: p1 lasted too long, p2 was a little too short, and p3 should have ended weeks ago. though i'm enjoying my time in cata, i'm not sure that i care.

I think the problem is a mix of Blizzard and the player base. "Given an opportunity, players will always optimize the fun out of a game", after all. It just got so tiring feeling like you're left behind by the majority of the player base in terms of gear and runes, and the unnecessary forced server transfers did not help. Me and my guild have returned to Bloodsail Buccaneers where it all started in 2019, and there we will stay.

IMO, the downfall of SoD is simple . . . the level 25/40/50 zones aren't designed for a server full of people like the level 1 zones. This forced you to dungeon grind or hate life at 25. Incursions were an attempted fix to this obvious problem, but broke the world harder than Deathwing.
