Here is my experience as a TBC raider.
Gruul was actually pretty tough since he was a gear check. Mixed with KZ drama. Being it was a ten man. We did 3 separate groups a week. Selecting 25 from the 30 caused a big rift in our guild. Who were pretty close since MC. We justified who went into the 25 man raids with meters and gear. Ppl left including one of our main tanks since his wife was left behind.
Then after Mags we had SSC and TK. Loot Reaver was on farm before we even started getting Tier 5 gear in SSC. Lady Vashj was a nightmare. Took us almost 2 months to kill her after clearing SSC. After her it was smooth sailing for our guild. Prince K was downed a month after Lady V. Then blew past MH and BT. BT was easy compared to the other raids it felt like. Illybeans went down soon enough.
Oh boy. Sunwell came next. Dear god we were not ready for this hell hole. Brut humbled us real quick. We wiped on him over 200 times. After that. God. Damn. Muru. He killed our guild. We lost the Sunwell race on our server. Took us a full week of attempts to even hit phase two. We finally broke apart. People quit or left for another guild. Really fucking sad.
    TL:DR I Fucking miss it.

Thanks for sharing! We have a similar story actually. My guild also had some drama in Kara. Going from 40 in vanilla to 10 in the "first" raid was pretty rough like I mentioned in the video. The way my guild handled it was to make an officer only group, and then just leave the rest of the guild to fend for themselves....a lot of people were angry. I didn't mind much though since I was tuned out from the vanilla burnout. If there's one thing I don't miss from those days it's the drama! They managed to keep it together though and did pretty well even through sunwell.
Thanks for sharing your story. I like reading through other people's experiences...good stuff!

Damn, this brings back memories. I never made it to Sunwell because I quit playing for a while after clearing BT and MH. I loved TBC raiding, the struggle was real when we first tried to clear Karazhan with pretty much all of the players new to raiding. It was a lot of learning and got easier week by week.

Do you probably blew past Mount hyjal and black Temple because you did it after the Tempest keep in SSC nerfs which followed by Mount hyjal and black Temple nerfs along with class after my sessions that made it very easy to do especially if sunwell was soon to follow... Because that is how most people experience it not seeing the weeks tanks had to coordinate to learn how to tank Illidan flames

I also want an official blizzard burning crusade server. Personally I would rather have that than vanilla if I had to choose. You had Kara, gruuls, mag, ssc, tk, hyjal, black temple, zul Aman, and sunwell plateau and they were all really good raids! The community was really tight back then too, man what a great time to play the game!

Burning Crusade is the only xpac I had a full lifetime in. I got in the middle of vanilla (a week or so before Arathi Basin came out) and quit mid-WotLK a week or two after Ulduar came out. Did Illidan and Archimonde and it was great when they added much more diversity than vanilla.

I'm happy Blizzard is going to make a vanilla server, but I wish they were also making a Burning Crusade server! It was by far my favorite time playing WoW. Everything just felt right. Hybrid damage dealers brought a lot of utility to raids, and if you set up your group appropriately with them you'd get great boosts in overall damage. The heroics were hard, there was always a sense of progression, cc was necessary still, rare mounts were still few and far between, reps were worthwhile to gain etc etc. It's a pain in the ass too because there doesn't seem to be a Burning Crusade private server that is anywhere close to what nostalrius was for vanilla. Maybe one day I'll get to have the authentic experience again

D G I se your points. Have to disagree one one major thing though: in TBC every spec was playable and every spec had a Tier set. Ferals, Boomkins, enhancement, shadow (barely), Retradins etc did not even get a raid spot in Vanilla and didn’t have set gear. I think BC was the sweet spot because you could play all of them, every spec had unique buffs, every hybrid spec truly played and felt like a supporting class in the raid (I played shadow and enhancement). That was the pinnacle of this game for two years. I am excited for vanilla. I could do without the broken loot and PvP system though :) however I think bliss will have to adjust some of that. From a business perspective just getting the old school raiders back won’t make sense in the numbers

It was the last time Matt Uelmenn worked as a composer for Blizzard, and you can hear the resemblance with Diablo 2 OST (mainly the expansion Lord of Destruction which is itself an homage to Wagner) and how the guy put very memorable leitmotivs in his works :)

Loved this era of raiding. None of this incentive to finishing one difficulty of content to turn around and play it over again with different tuning and slightly different mechanics. If you finished one raid, it meant you could finally go somewhere new.

      @highvolt4ge 4 года назад +1

@John Rock it was not. The beginning of wotlk was good. But last part was bad, and that is what makes TBC > WotLK.
      TBC had only 2 problems:
1 - it was too hard at the very beginning (attunements, etc.), but later it was nerfed to normal difficulty.
      2 - PVP imbalance.
      WotLK had 9 problems:
1 - no attunes = no need to visit old raids (just for achievements)
2 - different sets' of badges = no need to visit old raids AT ALL (well, maybe just for the achievements?)
3 - new dungeons with gear better than the gear from previous raid = well, you know...
4 - no need to visit old raid = everything that was before the current patch worth nothig
      5 - dungeon finder
6 - Trial of the Crusader/Champion. These were terrible. Like, srsly, if you like it - you are pervert.
7 - The only WPVP event now is Wintergrasp (which was great, btw). By WPVP events I mean things to fight over, like in Hellfire Peninsula, Terrokar and Zangarmarsh.
8 - Ressurection of Naxx and Onyxia. Blizzard was too lazy to create new content, I guess.
      9 - PVP imbalance. Still.
It was good at the very beginning, but later it was shitted up. It has it's good sides (Ulduar, Wintergrasp, Icercown, Dual spec, and, and.... aaaaaaaand that's it), but the down sides made WotLK < TBC.

That feel when you were one of the lucky 3 warlock or mage that got to be in the party with the lone elemental shaman and personal mana battery (shadow priest) and they swapped another shaman in your group mid-encounter for double bloodlust. Good fucking times. Tbc raiding was simply divine. I think the fact that most raids in the expansion were present from the start made it feel so special. The whole world was your oyster, if you became good enough and could gather your mightiest allies.

hey, if you're still looking for time warp ideas, how about professions? all the crafting profs had specializations and, while im not familiar with all of them, there were some cool quests/items. i remember getting that epic hammer trinket on my BS. or mining every ore individually.

TBC was the expansion that finally got me into a hardcore raiding guild, still with them to this day although I do no longer raid hardcore.
its been 13 years since TBC and I have settled down in life and no longer have time to play WoW but TBC will always been the expansion that holds the most nostalgia even over Vanilla WoW. It's probably my favourite expansion to this day due to the social peak of raiding with a very awesome guild. So many good memories and people and it's also sad to remember those that have just come and gone since then :(

TBC was "the WoW experience" for me. Eventho the best description for the entire expansion is the word chore. There was just so effin much to do.
I started playing WoW later in vanilla and joined in my mates aq40 guild. I never got to experience the proggress raiding part of it all but my god i was hooked.
Before the bc launch the guild pretty much died so me and my mates desided to create our own guild to start working on the new content blizzard created.
The guild never became a thing but we managed to merge with a bigger guild and so it all began. We nolifed the first few weeks, grinded endless amounts of rep, dungeons and so on.
And when we had our first guys with the kara attunement done it was on.We splitted our "main crew" (first 30ppl to hit 70) to 3 groups and started to run kara .
There we discovered the shitty loot (compared to heroics) and started to go for gruuls and mag instead.
Maggie was the easy one to clear but my effin god did gruul give us some trouble (till the first nerfs) :D
After that i kinda fell for the pvp side of WoW and joined back to the raiding scene for TK and lady vashj.
Our guild was banging their heads on the ssc&tk walls before the (well deserved) nerfs to many of the encounters there. But when they finally did the needed fixes and the fine tuning. Our guild kinda smashed trough everything other than kael&ladyvashj.
At this point i joined back on the pve realm and experienced the two best fights i know in WoW. Kael & Vashj

Vanilla was amazing as a whole, but the raiding felt a bit experimental.
It was clear in TBC that Blizzard had really listened to player feedback.
No more insane farming for raid mats, but enough to do to keep people on line and guild social was great.
The raiding pre nerf was fantastic and has never been beaten since. The 5 man heroics prepared raiders to some extent and kept most the idiots out of raiding altogether.
Loved the attunement. It made the expansion an immersive experience where players were really involved in the story line.
The raids were hard in a good way. It was a real achievement to down a new boss.
I miss this expansion more than any other part of WoW, especially all if my friends and guildies. I miss the countless hours on Vent where it was normal for many members to chat all the time they were playing, even outside raid hours.
I would love to have those times again, but time moves on and I realise that won't be possible.
If anyone remembers Geiela on Darkspear and Silvermoon EU it would be awesome if you say hello :)
Please, Blizzard developers, don't forget about the social aspect of the game because that is what made WoW so special.

My favourite moment in BC raiding was when I got to tank Firehand in Gruuls lair. As a mage main through vanilla and BC tanking part of a bossfight in a raid? Proposterous!

This series is amazing as it is a window into the games past that I never got to experience. I started playing WoW in MoP, mostly due to watching my dad play. Before then I was too young and didn’t really care for games like this. It took me about a year (breaks for school in there plus having to wait to get cata and MoP xpac) to hit max. Once I did so I found out about a mount that I was in love with instantly and was tied to an AotC achieve. The kor’Kron war wolf. So due to that I am in raiding. Now that I have grown and know what it is, I find myself looking to see what all the older more experienced players are talking about.

  • @comensee2461

I was in a top 40 raiding guild during BC and that was by far the best raiding expansion. The attunement process sucked off the bat because you were required to do heroic dungeons and you basically had to finish the dungeons under a certain amount of time or lose. Then you had to do the actual raids and complete them in order to progress to the next one. Some of the raids that you got starting off were okay, but not overly memorable. You had two one-boss raids to start with. Gruul's lair was broken (unbeatable) until they patched it. The first multi-boss raid was Serpentshrine cavern and it was pretty hard. Once you beat that you moved onto Tempest Keep and twiddled your thumb until 4 months later the Black Temple came out.
Black Temple was the first dungeon that felt like an actual epic raid in the BC. The other ones were fairly small with only 3-4 bosses. Black Temple was probably one of my top favorite raids. I wasn't a fan of the Battle for Mount Hyjal map.
So the biggest issue really with BC is there was a huge gap between raid releases after the Black Temple came out because it took almost 10 months Sunwell to come out. You had Zul'aman inbetween, but you were basically grinding the Black Temple inbetween that. Once the Sunwell came out we were grinding that for another 7 months until the WOTLK expansion came out. This is really if your guild was able to reach that level of content. Our guild was server first on everything and every other guild was significantly far behind us.
Sunwell had some bosses that were just headslammingly hard like M'uru. Our guild was #6 in the world for killing him.
So whilst BC was the best raiding expansion. It really had the longest gaps inbetween major raids.

To be fair, only Karazhan, SSC, Tempest keep and Hyjal were full raids. Mag and Gruul were more or less quick raids that if you had it down could easily finish it in 30 minutes. SSC and Tkeep required on average 2+ hours to finish, even on farm status.

One video you might do, or series, is the old Druid form, Shaman totem, Warlock pet, Rogue lock pick and poisons, etc. The excellent immersive quests that made you more familiar with your character and gave it a strong base. I loved these and I still miss them. I guess they may be back in Classic, I hope.

      K. T. There are private servers which are up since a few years and still have queues to get in. Did you stop and think that maybe people love the progression as they want to do it instead of Blizzard forcing every patch like hey this is the baddie this patch kill him for an ilvl upgrade. You can’t even show off the gear because of the shitty xmog system.

And then there are those of us that remember vanilla, hated the struggles, hate leveling in general, and like being at level cap because it allows us to do what we want when we want without having to worry about what's going to kill us or interrupt our version of having fun. If you liked Vanilla, more power to you, that's not my kind of fun tho.

I don't like the changes and I wish they'd change it back. I enjoyed WoW levelling for how it was, keep the annoying stuff for the vanilla players. They're getting their stuff soon so let the rest of the players keep the easy stuff. That's how I see it.

(Before watching the video) my opinion on what made end-game great in Vanilla, TBC, and Wrath, is that it was done socially through your identity on the server. I was a healer. I knew the good DPS and tanks on my servers. They knew I was a good healer. You knew the other guilds on your server, and which guilds to take into PuGs and which to avoid. You knew the loot ninjas and the drama queens, and you knew the really good players. You knew the players that were jerks, but were also really good and you'd put up with their attitude for a successful dungeon run.
Dungeons were hard. Raids were hard. There was no easy mode, so you had to work to succeed. However, anyone who did a little research had most of the tools to succeed. It wasn't a twitch game. It wasn't how fast can you mash the right button. It was more about who knew their class and their role. Raids relied on you knowing your whole class, not just a DPS rotation. The rotations were simpler, but the strategy and teamwork was harder.
I think the best part about pre-LFG raiding is that socializing wasn't an inconvenience, it was part of the game.

BC will always be my favorite expansion, being attuned was a badge of honor. I didn't think any of the attunements were that difficult, except Black Temple, but since that was released later most everyone was already pretty much attuned, oh and Sunwell, that was one hell of a rep grind, but the lore was so legendary, it all felt important.

TBC is when I was at my peak playing and I have only fond memories. My guild was server first KT kill, we spent I want to say at least a month wiping on him regularly, and it was awesome when we finally downed him. As a rogue I got the Signet ring on that kill, which was dope. Arena was a great addition for PvP, and the increased roles for classes like Druids was excellent to have more variety in groups/raids. My only regret is I burnt out while we were doing BT, quit before we downed Illidan and missed the warglaives which dropped for us. As #1 Rogue I was in line to get them. Oh well...

Ah the memories. I also loved karazan. Another thing to point out is that ranged tanking was a thing as well. In Gruuls lair I had full green stamina gear to tank the mage boss and spell steal his shield.
The timing was quite unforgiving his cast after the shield was 1,5 sec iirc and spell steals CD only just ran out as well.

Small correction, the reason shadow priests were on top on tbc was not the debuff slots. Shadow priests always had great damage but they had mana issues in Vanilla. In TBC they gave them a mana regen dot not only for you but also for your whole party. This made you not only run oom so fast anymore and being able to do do good damage, but it turned you into a living mana battery for your party.

    • @FacelessGladiator
      @FacelessGladiator 6 лет назад +1

Assirra This is all correct! Shadow priests in Vanillia were always top of dps for 15 seconds then they had no mana, they fixed this in TBC and the party buff was a must have!

With the attunements, don't for there was no lfg. There were times i'd spend an hour just spaming chat to find anybody who would come do shadow labs with me, only to have somebody leave half way through. Then I'd spend another hour flying to shat and looking for a replacement, only to have more leave because it took so long to find that first replacement. I actually liked the long attunement though, it was back when having an epic piece of equipment actually meant something. I'll never forget my first raid though. I was hooked right there.

I loved TBC, especially Karazhan. My guild was the only one on server to farm sunwell, and my warrior tank was geared to the teeth, but as soon the raid was over i'd starting looking for a Kara group to join. I did Kara nearly every week from start to finish of the exp.

Gruul's Lair was my favorite raid. I was a fire mage and loved being able to tank in there by way of spell steal.
Karazhan was also a lot of fun because we would split into two teams and race to see who could clear it first. The shit talking in /G chat was epic!
We never did clear BT. By the time that came about, we were pretty much burned out and most of the time we couldn't get enough people on.
TBC was my favorite expac followed by Wrath. I couldn't get into Cata, too many changes at once. I did come back and raid with MoP. I really enjoyed that expansion. WoD was the kill shot for me. That whole "build your own base" crap was a huge put off and I don't think I even leveled a character to max. I never returned to WoW after that.

  • @Sylphid15
    @Sylphid15 6 лет назад

I for one completely enjoyed the attunement process of TBC. It made a lot more sense to gradually go through content to unlock the next. IMO, raids should always have been added on top of each other like this, regardless of expansions. All end-game content from vanilla would still be relevant and explored. It's sad that most raids are forgotten now.
