As a Springbok fan, I can tell you that the AB have this ability to break your heart in a much worse manner than your ex-wife will ever be able to. You can never think that you have won the AB even if you are 20 points ahead with 5 minutes to go. You can only say that once the end whistle have blown. This match was really entertaining. Well done to both teams

Both teams have mutual respect for each other but it's what they bring to the field we love. Both fierce & everything's left on the field 💯
England done extremely well, gotta love the close games 💯
England seemed like they were celebrating the win, before the final whistle.
Never underestimate your opposition until the ref blows that final whistle.

They do indeed....well....at least in the olden days to us Irish. 😉 Joking aside I actually thought both sides were quite poor today. A lot of basic errors by both teams. But don't me wrong, still an absorbing test match to watch. (I even skipped my beloved Liverpool's game to watch it). Looking forward to our meeting with NZ next weekend at Landsdowne Road. After seeing their slipshop lucky win today I'm betting on us to turn them over. 😜

Wallace Sititi was impressive. He has speed with a late step, an offload, soft hands, a great pass and can tackle hard. But what equally impressive was the interview for man of the match. Well spoken and gave God the Glory. Humble Man who will be future All Black Captain.

As an interesting note, the ABs are usually.at their best with devout Christians in the team.
Michael Jones, Brad Thorn, to name a couple. Not sure if it's divine intervention or just the attitude that rubs off on the other players. Humility and belief that there's something greater than yourself.
The 7s team has gone to mud and they don't seem to join in prayer after games.
The Boks seem to go better with a few players of belief in their ranks too.

The Haka has come from Māori Culture but it is now Rugby culture. It doesn’t matter if you are performing it, facing it or simply witnessing it, the Haka calls on more than 100 years of great rugby moments, the spirit of past champions and a call on the players of both sides (and the officials) to make new history to be celebrated by the next Haka.

As for Mark Talea, in the words of the late great Voice of Rugby, Bill McLaren: "he's as slippery as a baggie in a Border burn!" Two phenomenal finishes from the big man! "Hey Tim! The England vs. New Zealand game was thrilling to watch. Both teams really showed up, making it an intense and closely fought match right to the end. My only disappointment was during the opening anthems. It felt a bit off-balance to have England's anthem sung live, while New Zealand’s wasn’t given the same treatment with a singer or opera. It would’ve been great to see both anthems treated equally to set the stage. Other than that, it was a solid performance all around, with both teams playing to their strengths. Some really tight, skillful plays!"

As a Kiwi and a die hard All Blacks fan. What a game, hard luck England you deserved to win that, but sometimes things just don't go your way, the AB's have been on the end of that stick in recent times.
As far the Haka and the crowd singing, Swing Low. I absolutely love it, the crowd getting involved adds to the occasion and they have every right be get involved as they've paid hard earnt money to be there. England walking towards the half way line, once again, love it.

The message is 'The distance imposed between teams is not our doing, we welcome a nose to nose challenge. Bring it on!'. England defence was superb. Hats off to the whole team. I thought we were going to see the scoreline the other way around, I'll admit it. Delighted with the hard fought victory. I breathed a huge sigh of relief when Marcus Smith got subbed. He had an outstanding game. His intercept was worth 14 points! Excellent kicking and game management. Why on earth the coach took him off, I have no idea. Yes it was hard to watch as an AB fan. Too many handling errors. Some from defensive pressure but too many from trying to push an unrealistic offload. Inaccurate kicking - uncontestable contestable kicks from B Barrett and kicks out on the full. Lineout errors at critical moments - Aumua was awesome around the field but still had those sketchy moments with his throw. Also Rieko Ioane needs to learn that when the team has worked an overlap inside the 22 and he has ALB, DMac and Mark Telea outside him with the England defense stretched and they're 5 points down with 6 minutes to play - he should PASS THE BALL! I would like to see ALB at centre and Cam Roigard starting next week.

@@WaferBrik You make some valid points, but I do hope you know that the South Africans were not purposely disrespecting the Haka with the flyover and loud music. It takes weeks/months of planning & lots of practice to perfect the flyover/s and the timing cannot suddenly be changed, as it's a massive operation, including getting clearance to fly so low in an urban setting. It was unfortunate that the Haka was delayed due to a minute's silence as a mark of respect for the death of the father of one of the ABs players. And the DJ was likely told to play the music in time with the flyover, so it was an unfortunate that one small delay (probably unplanned) had a knock-on effect that then ended up with the timings being completely out of sync.

I do wonder if the game had gone another five minutes if England would have been ahead, then another five and the ABs would have been ahead. In other words in this game there wasn’t a lot in it, think bounce of the ball and/or refs call. BUT, some teams , and you can see it in range of sports, just seem to be able to keep beating other particular teams by these thin margins and three in a row is enough of a trend to call it for the ABs.

England’s discipline was truly outstanding for most of the match and it kept them so close in the match. Smith’s intercept was very opportunistic, but it just didn’t seem England really threatens the try line. New Zealand had some great performances from a few players, but overall just didn’t seem to put their mark on the game like you would expect them to. When it was 22 all, that seemed to be the most fair result.

Tim you need to mention how in the uk, the game was behind a pay wall. Not any pay wall but one that most people don’t have. TNT. The rugby league game of England Samoa was free to air on the bbc, I understand the right cost more potentially but it’s one of the main reasons rugby struggles in the uk. I mean even have it on sky at least. Which most people do have.

    • @AndyWylie82

All the autumn internationals are on TNT. I'd rather they were on a free to air channel but one month's subscription at £31 buys them all. Compare that to the cost of going to just one of the games in person. And no, most people do not have Sky Sports, and if they do, they could have cancelled for one month, subscribed to TNT for one month, and been a few quid better off.

Cam Roigard made a huge difference when he came on. He was the guy that put the pressure on Ford and that may have made all the difference. He has to start now. Credit where it’s due, McKenzie made the kick when it counted.
Negatives for the all blacks, way too many penalties, a lot of that brought by England line pressure, all blacks need a better way to deal with rush defence.
Caleb Clarke really wasn’t in the game, kinda rough penalty against him. Mark Telea had a blinder.
England did play very well and really could’ve won it but just wasn’t there night.
The way the all blacks stuck in there and found a way to win was the first real sign that they are on track.

Allegedly, Ford can close out games and Marcus is a "wild card" and can't be trusted (seemed to have forgotten Ireland). The sooner Boredwick builds for the 2027 WC the better and drop the likes of George (looked way off the pace) and Ford (hide on the wing where he tried applying face makeup to Telea because he has never been able to tackle) get passed over the better, in my eyes. Woodwood (sic) and the Hood (Thunderbirds nickname for Eddie) made the same mistake, hanging on to the old guard post a WC. Be brave, we're losing anyway , at least give the kids some experience assuming we don't completely trash their confidence.

This was an English loss more than an AB win. Very closely matched sides. Entertaining game from start to finish. England did well to take points during the first half and capitalise on AB second half struggles. English “bomb squad” changes were not effective. Scrum suffered after the front row change. Also, Smith was on fire - was the change to Ford necessary to “close out the match”? Too safe too soon?
The AB changes were far more effective than in the Rugby Championship and back to scoring again in the last 20 was the difference.
Angus Gardiner was excellent. “Not all head contact is foul play” is a huge step in the right direction for rugby officiating🙌🏻

You didn't seem to mind when Smith made dreadful mistakes in the past, or shanked 2 awful DGs today? How quickly you forget Ford's part in the 2019 semi against the ABs, or his play against Argentina in the WC. He deserves so much more credit than you give him. Disgraceful comment.

I feel for England. They had it for the taking. Two defence mistakes by the outside defender (first the no 15 and Ford at the end) to come in on the second to last runner who was already covered. That meant the last receiver got the ball uncovered - two tries against them. I was also puzzled at why England did not play wide twice early in the game when they had overlaps but chose to thunder down the middle.
This game Showed (for me) so clearly the necessity of a ice cool place kicker. And two good props on the bench.
Marcus Smith is maturing. He may turn out to be one of the great 10's of his time.
And thank you England for that wonderful "old school up and under". A joy to see. And it almost came off...
(And P.S. - The Boks are going to have a hard task against England in two weeks time.)
AB's? Well what we know - they know how to win and they have slick and dangerous runner who will score if you give them any space.

@@Jack-qv5ru Unfortunately some rugby clubs , like my local club have a club members only policy for selected days like international games.

@9:20 very _very_ good points. Rugby is such a great game, and the things that can be faulted are the *_decision-making_* events that are not at high-speed. Execution cannot be faulted, it is what it is, sometimes you have a bad bounce after making a good call.

For all the focus on head contact, the divebombing into players legs without arms is as dangerous. Those are career ending injuries. Should Earl have been sent off for his divebomb move. According to the laws, absolutely.

Yes, agree. That is about as dangerous as it gets. That's right out of a 1970s playbook.

Sad to say I don't have TNT sports in the UK, so I did not see the game, went old school and listened to live commentary on BBC sports. Two years ago I selected Viaplay to get all the rugby on Sky, that went to Premier sports where I get URC, Currie Cup and Six Nations. Mind boggling that you need two subscriptions to watch the same sporting code. Thanks for the hot takes Tim.

England just looked nervous for the last 20 minutes. Rather than growing in confidence, they just went into their shell and I think George Ford coming on compounded that. His presence just reinforced the plan to move to a very tight, more pragmatic play style and that worked against us. I could also see Telea's finish a mile off, I knew Ford would go high on that tackle. Anyway, he should amended for that with the multiple 3 point misses at the end, very unlike him!

Tackling correctly will enable a team a chance to gain more ball not the scrambleing smash and grab. The 0position in any game will always be in struggle street.

Please repeat after me, THE HAKA IS NOT A. WAR DANCE, it is a challenge offered when two groups meet, this could be before battle but is more often than not for a range of other reasons.

Indeed. Numerous British monarchs have faced the Haka. At the end a challenge is issued. You either accept it or you don't. You always accept it. Well, QE II did.

If England were to lose that’s how I’d want it to happen. Maximum exposure to Borthwick’s poor selection decisions (more the bench rather than the starting XV). Got to strengthen the bench, there are players that aren’t involved playing some unbelievable rugby and are English who could create proper momentum and impact. Ted Hill, Will Evans, Fin Smith (or just leave Marcus Smith on the pitch!), Ibitoye & Wade to name a few. Park your pride Borthwick and start getting guys in who can really compete for starting places in the name of strengthening the matchday 23
