      What else was the spider going to do? It couldn't eat the frog and it didn't want it in the web deterring any other possible meals. The only thing to do was to set it free.
      It didn't do it out of kindness, just necessity.
      By the way, a spider is an arachnid not a human, so it cannot have *humanity*

    • @777Skeptic
      @777Skeptic 5 лет назад +53

      The spider cut the frog loose for for a completely selfish reason. The frog was just messing up the web, and the vibrations were probably annoying. The frog was probably also making the web more conspicuous, and deterring flies.
      The spider might not even be smart enough to realize all this. It's probably just running an AI script that evolution programmed in it.

      Conway The spider is doing what it was predisposed to by Natural Selection. Rather then let a large cumbersome pray contort in the net and destroy his net further, the spider cuts a piece of it out. This behaviour is common with net-building spiders. Building an entire net or entangling the prey one cannot eat is a bigger energy investment than cutting and re-patching the existing net.

      Lol yeah, bro. Everyone in the comments being all sassed up over nothing. There are practical benefits of cutting it loose. It might catch the attention of even larger creatures, who will then eat the frog AND the spider. Or a decomposing corpse might spell trouble. Or its weight might be messing up the web. Or it's a dead giveaway to potential prey, that there's a fucking web set up there. It might receive retaliation if the frog calls for its mates. Why waste energy for all that?
      A simple arachnid doesn't have philisophy. It acts based on survival. And it cut the frog loose for its survival, nothing more.

    People should probably realize that spider didn't let that frog go, because he was such an kind hearted creature. Don't be so guilllable.
    He simply let it go, because of 2 reasons.
    1. He has no use for it, and he wouldn't waste his venom on something he can't eat later.
    2. It would take too much place on his net, and scared other pray away.

      No, it's the mind of a human, that makes it for something that it isn't. Remeber those news, where lioness adopted a baby gazella? It was cute wasn't it, right? Everyone was taking about how enchanting it is....except that in reality, that lion had some mental breakdown that forced it to see that gazella as it's cub or somethign close to it. Gazella as well, doesn't have happy life, since because of lioness it cannot eat, drink and isn't capable of joining other gazellas, so it's basicly dying alone and hungry.

      Justin Ferrell Im not an expert but i think spiders only have a finite amount of venom stored which takes time and energy to replenish and considering the size of the prey it would probably taken a large amount of venom to kill which is why it may be careful about what it uses its venom on. Once it found out it could not eat the frog, it chucked the frog so it could repair its web and make room for things it can actually eat. Just my opinion though

  • @michaelsong5555
    @michaelsong5555 4 года назад +13

    Good call by the spider. If the frog just hanged there, not only would it give away the stealthness of the web, it might attract unnecessary attention from unwanted animals, such as the birds or snakes. Unlike venom, poison on the frog skin takes a while to degenerate, so keeping it there would work against the spider. Furthermore, the spider needed to repair the web to catch the other preys.

    Weeeell I've seen spiders do this to non-edible material thrown at it's web too. It's not really a behavior along the lines of "mercy and letting-it-live". I think the behavior is more of "cleaning my web" for the next catch. But that's just my personal observation.

      You've seen spiders. I doubt you've seen a full blown araneomorph Nephila in it's habitat having to deal with a poisonous frog! That spider is one hell of a smart arachnid and the sole reason it let the frog go is because it was poisonous. Not to clean it's web.

      @@deathserpent9747 I wish you'd know more about the difference between the two. Had you delved more into this subject you'd have found out there is LITTLE difference between VENOM and POISON. Yes on the surface venom can only kill if it is injected and poison can only kill if it's ingested. But poison can also kill without being ingested and venom can kill without being injected as well. Both Poison and Venom are TOXINS. The only difference between poisonous or venomous is in the way the TOXIN PAYLOAD is delivered! That's all.
