    Most travelers come to Easter Island on a 4 day/3 night package, as did we and then explore the exact same sights in the exact same order. We selected Hotel O'Tai in the center of Hanga Roa for our stay. Exclusive and uber expensive hotels are Altiplanico and Explora; both of whom include all sights, guides and food in their rates but we were very happy at O'Tai, convenient to all restaurants. And only five minutes from the airport!
    Easter Island is 3,700 kilometers/2,300 miles west of South America and the only other way to access by air is from Tahaiti. Occasional cruise lines do include Easter Island in their itineraries. Why visit? For the incredible Maoi (stone statues). In-depth videos of all that we saw and did will follow...And please don't forget to Share, Like and Subscribe. Thanks!

    Would love to visit Easter Island but I'd never be able to afford it, you're very lucky 😊 Polynesians are the greatest seafarers in the world travelling tens of thousands of kilometres throughout the Pacific, using the stars to guide them. I'm Australian, have been to New Zealand where the Maori live and seen the longboats used. Polynesian islands in the South Pacific also include Tonga, Samoa, Nauru, Tuvalu, Niue and Palau

      I love Pixar/Disney movies and have probably watched "Moana" 10 times on airplanes. They were great sea-farers. A favorite book is Michener "Hawaii" that details the migration in fictional form, based on fact. Thanks so much, Debbie, for your time to view and comment. It was expensive! Couldn't afford it the first time we visited South America but on this trip, it was "if not now, when" 😱 Very best to you, Sheila 🥰

      Thanks for watching. Easter Island was one of those places where you can watch videos, documentaries, movies, etc. until the cows come home but only actually standing next to a gigantic Maoi does the enormity of the Rapa Nui accomplishment sink in. Keep watching and thanks again for visiting my channel.

    I don't know how much it cost you but there are some landmarks and places in the world that you cannot see without considerable effort, time, and money. Places like the Eiffel tower, Sydney Opera house, Pyramids at Giza, Statue of Liberty and Christ the Redeemer all can be seen from a distance. It is places like this and Machu Picchu, and I'm sure others, that require your commitment to experience them - not all have the desire to see or experience places like this, and of those that do, many don't have the resources. But, if you are able to, don't look back - I can only imagine the wonder one must feel to be so isolated and among the Moai. Truly once in a lifetime experience!

    • @SheilaSimkin
      @SheilaSimkin  6 лет назад

      Thank you so much Raul, for watching and your excellent advice. All of the mentioned places we have been fortunate enough to see and visit. For anyone to get to Easter Island, not only takes financial resources for this once in a lifetime visit but a considerable amount of time and planning; why not many travelers have this opportunity. Very best to you and again, thanks for your wise advice to others. Sheila

      Yes, most definitely worth it. I attended the Festival of the Pacific Arts 2016. Which was held on Guam (I'm from Guam). My first time experiencing this event and learn about Polynesia. Particularly Rapa Nui, which I learned has many names and taglines to it. Isla de Pascua or Easter Island. Island with a thousand mysteries, the world's most remotest and inhabited island, or Navel of the World just to name a few. Plus I read up on their history and culture, the Rapa Nui language is quite interesting to hear. Plus the annual Tapati Rapa Nui Festival held for 2 weeks staring on the last week of January to first week of February. Festival of their Rapa Nui culture. 🙆

      Yeah, but as the quintessential traveller I can say you should visit all the weird little countries here like Monaco, ANDORRA, San Marino. Unbelievably enough the greatest compulsion I have had is to move to GREENLAND. I can move 5 barges of European DIRT here, build greenhouses and generate money, etc, etc.

    Before considering Easter Island, you should watch the latest Lost LeBlanc video on Easter Island in which he and his girlfriend are hassled by an aggressive ranger named Felipe near the famous statues. Felipe apparently makes a habit of hassling tourists and even breaking their camera equipment.

    The famous Norwegian scientist, Thor Heyerdahl actually presented a theory as to how those statues were erected. He wrote a book about it called "Aku Aku".
    You may remember Heyerdahl from the Kon Tiki expedition.

    • @SheilaSimkin
      @SheilaSimkin  7 лет назад

      I do remember Thor and his experiences. That's another thing that I wonder at when traveling; how the explorers sailed the seas in tiny craft - rafts, canoes, etc. It worries me when we're on a huge ship and seas get rocky!

    • @LarzGustafsson
      @LarzGustafsson 7 лет назад

      Hi!

    I'm into weird places like this, and have not only visited but also lived in various offbeat places. But that Post Office...hmmm I don't know. Seems like a nice place to visit for 4 days like you did, but I don't think I could live there.
    But from your website I can see you've never been to Malta. Now that's an interesting place. BUT they drive on the wrong side of the road there and I'd be terrified of driving on them rinky-dink roads.

      +Sheila Simkin I've moved internationally (emigrated) 8x and I've lived in 5 different countries. My journey started in Lisen, Czechoslovakia where I personally witnessed the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. 3 months later I was gone. Couple of moves later I was living in Ft. Lee, New Jersey, right across the Hudson from Manhattan and witnessed the attack on the second WTC tower. In 2011 I moved to southern Germany and personally witnessed the endless hordes of immigrants, as well as their various encampments all over Germany.
      I've been to every country in Europe EXCEPT the UK and Malta because I'm afraid of driving on the wrong side of the road. And anywhere I go I always look at Post Offices because that's my bread-and-butter as it were because I sell antiques and rare books on eBay and all the other major sites like Aukro, Allegro, Molotok, etc. It's a hobby but also an obsession. In my country they'd say "I'd sell my own nose." But just not now because I'm in the process of moving AGAIN, this time back to CZ; and you know the whole runaround: buy a house, put in a new kitchen/bath, painting, then moving, and then selling this monstrosity I have in Germany. "Downtown Europe City" I call it.
      I've been inside the Great Pyramid and drove the whole route from Marsa Alam to Cairo (not for the faint of heart) camping out in the Sahara.
      As a result of my constant moving I've not only put a couple languages under my belt but actually made money on every move when I think about it. Also helpful is the fact that my entire family basically dispersed to the 4 corners of the earth following that one key event: the invasion of Czechoslovakia because we're an "unusual" family that suffered under every single regime they invented: the Austrians, the Nazis, and the Communists. That "unusual" aspect is kind of a given, in that Lisen (pronounced "Lee-shang" without the "g") derives from the root word "Lisit se" = to be different from others, and is the oldest of Brno's 29 catastral districts (about 30,000 years old) and is where Joscelino Kubitschek and many other famous Czechs (actually Moravian-Hanakians) come from.
      I've literally done every job known to man, and the last actual job I had was as a bank director. Since then I've been self-employed, or living off rents, interest, dividends, or a combination of all the above.
      People always tell me I should slow down, move to a laid-back country like Monaco or the Canary Islands, or go back into banking, but I didn't like Monaco too much when I went there, and banking is unbelievably stressful. So is ghostwriting. Then again, stress can be very rewarding, especially when you step outside that imaginary "comfort zone" while knowing you always have a safe place to come back to.
      I think everyone should check out as many places as they can while they're young and can handle all the hardware. Sometimes it's insane like 29 hours from Prague to Sydney. In retrospect I'm like "what was I thinking?!?"

    • @SunRabbit
