I am quick to criticize things done wrong without looking at a work by its result. In this event I have no criticism of anything you did to change this into a one of a kind motorcycle. It made me suspect you have some academic skills in engineering? At the five minute mark, the beer I opened when you started was empty as I sat transfixed by the process. That is some big time distraction you had going on there. My beer was meant to last half an hour! Well i enjoyed watching the whole picture and tell you that is one fine achievement, fella! Be proud. I'm not sure but it might have been in a few other bikes as well. I've seen those engines go over 150,000 miles with not so much as an oil leak. Two pistons for compression, no cams, one cylinder, diesel like the Enfield Taurus.

      Deisel is going to be phased out in Europe over the next few years. Since the VW emissions cheating scandal (not just VW as it turned out) more work on the very real dangers of diesel particulates has been done so I can't see that being the way forward. Deisel motorcycles have been tried before, as I'm sure you know, but there's a reason they never succeed. Superchargers, maybe clean 2 stroke tech a la KTM, now that might be a way. Good luck in your project anyway Jan.

      @@vincenthamilton2828 People have been building these engines for 100 years. There isn't much new under the sun, so this is basically a fun hobby IMO. It's possible to start a machine shop business and sell after-market parts for engine tuning, but the RUclips channel probably has more profit potential.

      I am as well. Opposed pistons in one cylinder, no head / valves, intake/ exhaust ports opened by pistons, maybe a reed but no parasitic valve springs, will be supercharged / forced intake/ exhaust scavaging, a two stroke like a detroit deisel but gasoline or methanol with super hi compression and no head gasket. Direct injection even better but adds complexity.

      Excellent job on the longitudinal (what -seems-to-be) 90 degree v-twin. MotoGuzzi is famous for this layout, but Honda also experimented with this setup in the 1980s. As other commenters have stated cooling fins would help with aesthetics and some of the internal aluminum seam welds could have better.

    As a mechanical engineer. My only judgement and criticism from what i see, is that the engine oil feed seems to be way too big for the engine, generally speaking if the oil feed is too big the oil pressure within the engine would be low thus slow circulation for the engine resulting in the engine overheating, but if what youve done is at a right size and you find that it isnt over heating and so be it. Another thing i have to say is that, instead of 2 carburetors, you can use 1 large carburetor for a smoother control of the engine, and you can just fine tune it with just 1 carburetor, it is worth a try. It also saves a lot of space and parts and long term maintenance.

      @@TheFirstBigCheese but with extra parts and twice the costs and more work? Id rather not. Furthermore and the reduce overall space of that thing is 1/3 with just 1 carburetor.
      When the same thing can be achieved with a large single carburetor. This isn’t a turbo that needs to spooled. Maybe 🤔 but then again, it comes down to what is needed form or function.

    • @TheFirstBigCheese
      @TheFirstBigCheese 3 года назад

      @@mxkxveli5616 : Turbo or not has absolutely nothing to do with inlet puls symetery and the benefits of air/fuel synchronisation per cylinder on an assymetrical engine. And I second your statement that you can pack a bigger carb + plenum + y-piping in 33% in the space of 2 small carbs.
      I would consider a plan getting a refund of those tuition fees for that "mechanical degree" if I where you though.
