I've wanted to build one of these types of "stunt sabers" for years. I've seen many tutorials on RUclips from the very basic (i.e. plastic tube on a high powered flashlight) to the more advanced with high lumen leds and soundboards. This is possibly the most plausible design I've ever seen. No I don't have access to a soldering iron and a band-saw however a decent soldering iron and the solder itself isn't expensive and though it might take more time, all the modifications you made could be done with a hacksaw and a file. May have to try this build down the road myself.
You could do it with just a hacksaw. The leads are so simple you could just use clip on connectors and get the job done.(No solder required) I hope you will give it a try. It's a fun project. Thanks for watching.

Max Voge, thanks so much. You can beat this thing against a wall and not hut it. I just uploaded a new video on building Han Solo’s Blaster. You may find it fun to build. Thanks so much for watching.
Anyone know any more powerful LEDs I can pair with either more batteries or a bigger one. I saw 144 neopixel light strips but they need a lithium ion battery that if not handled correctly can explode or melt or catch fire and I just want a good solid super bright blade
Try adding more strips. Use a 1/4" dowel rod and add about 3 to 4 strips. Then solder all the right connections together and it should be brighter. If not, I apologise. It's just a thought I had.
Awesome that a son has such a great and creative dad that would gift him a great masterpiece. I love that handle design it looks as if it just fits the films themselves and I have seen some other builds that the Lightsaber is more elaborate in the electronics and features but the handles turn to be too simplistic, while this may lack some of the elaborate electronics but the lightsaber overall is purely aesthetically pleasing. I would love to guild one just like it with all the electronics to amp it up more.

I'm looking to build the same concept of Lightsaber but using a 12v 5050 analog LED strip. Could I hook up two 9 volt bateries to make it shine close to the original 12v? Thanks.
Drake Alexander that is exactly what I did. I was concerned about the 12v but the 9v battery worked great on it. Lights great! And the battery life is awesome.
Gene Cavasos DIYGene Hello. Is yours a 5050 LED? Because the come at lower lumens (don't remember the number) and they vary from 10 or more lumens for LED down to 2 or 3 lumens. Would two 9v in series burn the strip? PS: I'm looking to do 35" x2 (and maybe x3) 70" or 105" of the strip. Thanks.
Gene Cavasos DIYGene Thanks. I will go for it. I will put a lithium 9v for good measure and I will convert the connections to barrel DC jack for easier connect/disconect connections.

Rey Ravi , I did use tape to make the blade so tight it olds well. Then I drilled the holes for the machine screws tight and let them thread into the hilt. I just put out a new video on building Rey’s lightsaber and it may show you a little better. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/3tdaqYUo78w/видео.html
Thanks for watching.
Thank you gene - my wife and sister in law have been pressing me to do a craft or a hobbie - i cannot think of anything better then this..absolutely phenomenal job. Well done sir and thanks for sharing...
Thank you! It was a lot of fun, I hope you will give it a try. Thanks again for watching.
Same here, my wife tells me the same thing. I think this may be it for me too.
Can anyone tell me exactly what the “sleeve” , “plug” and “filter” PVC pieces are? No links for those in description. Thanks!
Hey Gene! I just finished my project and thanks to your instructions, it turned out perfectly! All components I used including some that you used were the best for making a lightsaber. Couldn't have done it without you!
PapiPlayz , That is fantastic! I so glad that some of the video may have helped. Thanks so much for watching.
DIY Gene No problem, keep up the amazing projects!
DIY Gene Also, if possible, I would love to reach you by email to show you the final product if that’s ok
PapiPlayz , absolutely! I would love to see if. gcavasos@gmail.com
DIY Gene Sure thing!
Awesome job, my favorite part however was your son . . . who was wearing a Deadpool jacket . .. lol . . . enjoy
Boy, your son has some mad lightsaber skills! Lots of talent in your family!
Foo S. , Thank you. My son is now off at college and I sure miss him. Thanks again for the kind words and for watching.

Hi Robert, I’m glad you found the video helpful. I also did a new one just this week on a multi colored lightsaber build. Here is a link:

Thanks so much for watching.
I’m currently recreating this build and I’m curious on where you were able to find that blue button you put over the on off switch
Logan The Log, I ended up ordering it from Amazon. They came in a pack of I think 12. I have a link in the description below the video for some of the parts. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
It fills my heart with joy to see a man who enjoys making stuff as much as you do, I subscribed right away. Incredible video, and will most definitely try this for myself!
Thank you so much. I have always enjoyed building things and feel blessed that I can share my craft with people. I’m by far not the best, but I do love doing it. Thanks again for watching.
Fantastic build man!
Big Mek Danskull , thanks for watching!
Man oh man Gene! I wish I had seen this video before my Star Wars wedding last year. I spent over $800 just on the lightsabers for my bride and I.
Wow! You had a Star Wars wedding? That is so cool! I just posted a new video on building Han Solo's DL44 Blaster from scratch.
We did. It was truly the best day of my life. :D
I bet the wedding album is a trip. Congratulations! How do you celebrate your anniversary?
This year we'll be celebrating at the Mothman festival in Point Pleasant West Virginia. The 501st (Star Wars Stormtrooper cosplayers) will be there with good old Darth Vader. We're gonna get into our Cosplay gear and join them. :D Thanks for asking.
now you need to build him a new lightsaber just like the old one with the lighsabersounds love the concept of this but it needs sound
Awesome build, hands down far superior to any store bought lightsaber
Thank you so much. This was a fun project. Thanks again for watching.
@@DIYGene You are quite welcomed, and I hope to see more stuff from your channel which I will subscribe as of this moment. Thank you much as well and for sharing.

Whooooooooooo peeeeeeeeeeeerrrr

Well we have fun. Thanks so much for watching.
@@DIYGene Thank you for sharing your unbelivable creativity with us!
Nice Workspace Btw :)
Greetings from Germany!
this is awesome!
Stephan Ward Thanks!
I would of loved to have a father like this who makes me the best toys! I loved the video.
The saber came out looking super awesome.
Have you ever considered making one to sell on a comission basis?
Veronica Reynolds, I really haven’t. I enjoy building projects and sharing how I did it so other people can do it too.
Ive watched many lightsaber DIY videos and yours is the easiest and coolest.
I hope you will give it a try. Thanks for watching.
I am the 57th subscriber!!!
This video warms my heart, you seem like an extremely nice man.
Mr.BugatiExplosion , Well thank you. It was a lot of fun. Thanks again for watching.
The only thing that was bad was that there was no sound. But other then that, it’s awesome.
Gene, this is just one of my favorite videos to watch. You building a great lightsaber and then seeing your son enjoying it while you two are having fun testing it out - in the dark. It looks great and professional BTW.
You should have (and earn) many more subscribers.
Hugs from Belgium, Daniella.
Thanks Daniella! I so enjoyed doing this project for my son. We are are thinking of doing the dark saber together. What do you think?
@@DIYGene
I bet a lot of your subscribers will LOVE that because I sure am looking forward to the video, it will be fun to watch and the saber will look awesome.
(wwoohoo, Gene and Dylan doing a project together... woohoo!)
I’d love to do this all but I wish I could just find some more powerful LEDS
Thanks, I wonder if it would be even brighter if I used 12v instead of the 9v? Although it is still really bright. Thanks so much for watching.
That was awesome for you and your son to build and talk together it was awesome to see this video...
Christopher Robbins, Thank you so much. He is off at college now and I sure do miss him. Thanks again for watching.
I'm glad, I have been so busy with the army stations and family I have not seen my dad for 1 out of 10 years in the army and finally getting out and I'll be able to come home and see him. I'm happy your happy and he is doing great.
Thanks.
Drake Alexander yes, 5050 and one 9v will light it up light you won’t believe.
Gene Cavasos DIYGene Thanks. I will go for it. I will put a lithium 9v for good measure and I will convert the connections to barrel DC jack for easier connect/disconect connections.
Drake Alexander I tested the 9v on the whole whole roll and it lite up well. Then I cut it down to about 6’ and folded it over to about 3’.
This is true quality, either you are the most patient man ever or you started really early lol
Powdy Cat , Patients is definitely not in my personality. LOL!
DIY Gene well either way it’s pretty cool lol good job
