I've wanted to build one of these types of "stunt sabers" for years. I've seen many tutorials on RUclips from the very basic (i.e. plastic tube on a high powered flashlight) to the more advanced with high lumen leds and soundboards. This is possibly the most plausible design I've ever seen. No I don't have access to a soldering iron and a band-saw however a decent soldering iron and the solder itself isn't expensive and though it might take more time, all the modifications you made could be done with a hacksaw and a file. May have to try this build down the road myself.
You could do it with just a hacksaw. The leads are so simple you could just use clip on connectors and get the job done.(No solder required) I hope you will give it a try. It's a fun project. Thanks for watching.
I am super impressed. For a relatively low cost you've built a sturdy prop you don't have to be afraid of breaking. And it doesn't take 10 button batteries to run the thing. katphyre , Thanks so much for the nice comment and for subscribing. I have to say, I’m even surprised at how long the battery has lasted and the 9v battery is easy and cheep to replace.
Take a very fine sanding block or sandpaper and use it on the polyurethane until it looks frosty. That should close the little clear gap around the outside.
I´ve been watching tutorials on how to make lightsabers for a week, and this is one of the best by far, literally step by step, I got a lot of ideas from this, I think thats the basic idea, you maker your own, use whatever you like , I think it was gene who said that you can choose basically anything from the plumbing section to make it.
I also found that amazon has multicolored led lights, that are powered by three double A's. So i just ripped the wires out of the box housing the double A's and connected it to a 9 volt battery

Logan The Log, I ended up ordering it from Amazon. They came in a pack of I think 12. I have a link in the description below the video for some of the parts. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
Anyone know any more powerful LEDs I can pair with either more batteries or a bigger one. I saw 144 neopixel light strips but they need a lithium ion battery that if not handled correctly can explode or melt or catch fire and I just want a good solid super bright blade
Try adding more strips. Use a 1/4" dowel rod and add about 3 to 4 strips. Then solder all the right connections together and it should be brighter. If not, I apologise. It's just a thought I had.
Awesome that a son has such a great and creative dad that would gift him a great masterpiece. I love that handle design it looks as if it just fits the films themselves and I have seen some other builds that the Lightsaber is more elaborate in the electronics and features but the handles turn to be too simplistic, while this may lack some of the elaborate electronics but the lightsaber overall is purely aesthetically pleasing. I would love to guild one just like it with all the electronics to amp it up more.
@@DIYGene You are quite welcomed, and I hope to see more stuff from your channel which I will subscribe as of this moment. Thank you much as well and for sharing.
I'm looking to build the same concept of Lightsaber but using a 12v 5050 analog LED strip. Could I hook up two 9 volt bateries to make it shine close to the original 12v? Thanks.
Drake Alexander that is exactly what I did. I was concerned about the 12v but the 9v battery worked great on it. Lights great! And the battery life is awesome.
Gene Cavasos DIYGene Hello. Is yours a 5050 LED? Because the come at lower lumens (don't remember the number) and they vary from 10 or more lumens for LED down to 2 or 3 lumens. Would two 9v in series burn the strip? PS: I'm looking to do 35" x2 (and maybe x3) 70" or 105" of the strip. Thanks.
Gene Cavasos DIYGene Thanks. I will go for it. I will put a lithium 9v for good measure and I will convert the connections to barrel DC jack for easier connect/disconect connections.
Thank you so much for this tutorial!!! This is the best tutorial I've seen out there. I love your idea of using the pop up assembly! That idea is amazing in and of itself! I'm planning on designing my own lightsaber based off of your video. Thank you so much!

Only change I would make is get a high-powered LED inside the hilt and replace the white inner tube with cellophane. And if you wanna take it a step further, you can get a second LED to flash on hit, and they sell circuit boards that will do sound for hitting, holding, and swinging.

Those who disliked most likely don't have cool dads.
Southpaw McGraw, not sure about cool. But I do love my boy!
@@DIYGene that being said, then you are a cool dad.
Southpaw McGraw no, just that they can’t build, that’s pretty much it.
You´re an awesome dad and a great craftsman. A role model.
You are a great Dad you did a great job!
Mike M , Thanks, and thanks for watching.
Best lightsaber diy i've ever seen! Not the easiest to do, but, anyway, the best one
Can anyone tell me exactly what the “sleeve” , “plug” and “filter” PVC pieces are? No links for those in description. Thanks!
It fills my heart with joy to see a man who enjoys making stuff as much as you do, I subscribed right away. Incredible video, and will most definitely try this for myself!
Thank you so much. I have always enjoyed building things and feel blessed that I can share my craft with people. I’m by far not the best, but I do love doing it. Thanks again for watching.
The Gatherers at Savi's Workshop in Galaxy's Edge: *_Are we a joke to you?_*
yes
I would of loved to have a father like this who makes me the best toys! I loved the video.
The saber came out looking super awesome.
I’m currently recreating this build and I’m curious on where you were able to find that blue button you put over the on off switch
Logan The Log, I ended up ordering it from Amazon. They came in a pack of I think 12. I have a link in the description below the video for some of the parts. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
AND ONE MORE THING THANK YOU FOR NOT GIVING UP BECAUSE YOU GIVE ME HOPE
(In Darth Vader’s Voice) Be my Dad or teach my dad your Jedi ways
Whooooooooooo peeeeeeeeeeeerrrr
I feel like this channel deserves more hype
Oni Animations , Thank you!
Fantastic build man!
Big Mek Danskull , thanks for watching!
And the jedi father of the year award goes to this guy.
Nor even me would thought this! Nice job Gene! May the DIY be with you! 🤘😎
Obi Wan Kenobi, Haha, Thank you Obi Wan! The force is strong with this one.
this is awesome!
Stephan Ward Thanks!
Your son is a very lucky boy. Many blesses
I’d love to do this all but I wish I could just find some more powerful LEDS
Thanks, I wonder if it would be even brighter if I used 12v instead of the 9v? Although it is still really bright. Thanks so much for watching.
Ive watched many lightsaber DIY videos and yours is the easiest and coolest.
I hope you will give it a try. Thanks for watching.
Have you ever considered making one to sell on a comission basis?
Veronica Reynolds, I really haven’t. I enjoy building projects and sharing how I did it so other people can do it too.
I have ten days to make an obi wan costume for may 4th, and this helped me so much. You earned a subscriber here. keep doing what you're doing!!
Thank you so much! I love doing projects like this. And it is holding up great.
What has a costume to do with a Lightsaber sorry dont get it.
The only thing that was bad was that there was no sound. But other then that, it’s awesome.
Thank you so much. This was a fun project. Thanks again for watching.
Thanks.
Drake Alexander yes, 5050 and one 9v will light it up light you won’t believe.
Gene Cavasos DIYGene Thanks. I will go for it. I will put a lithium 9v for good measure and I will convert the connections to barrel DC jack for easier connect/disconect connections.
Drake Alexander I tested the 9v on the whole whole roll and it lite up well. Then I cut it down to about 6’ and folded it over to about 3’.
Thank you so much for this tutorial!!! This is the best tutorial I've seen out there. I love your idea of using the pop up assembly! That idea is amazing in and of itself! I'm planning on designing my own lightsaber based off of your video. Thank you so much!
Aiden Mallrich , Thanks so much. I hope it helps. I also did a couple of others if you get a chance to check them out. Here is a link to one: ruclips.net/video/jtFxPavl76U/видео.html
Thanks so much for watching.
I am the 57th subscriber!!!
Only change I would make is get a high-powered LED inside the hilt and replace the white inner tube with cellophane. And if you wanna take it a step further, you can get a second LED to flash on hit, and they sell circuit boards that will do sound for hitting, holding, and swinging.

great build. for the grip i use bicycle tube, cut it to size and turn it inside out to hide the lettering. that way i don't have to deal with a seam
sithlordst32, cool idea. Thanks for watching.
wow nice video !
Chrst .n Thanks! Please let me know if you have any ideas for a DIY video.
Boy, your son has some mad lightsaber skills! Lots of talent in your family!
Foo S. , Thank you. My son is now off at college and I sure miss him. Thanks again for the kind words and for watching.
It's great, too bad it doesn't have sound affects....
wish i had a dad like you that can make stuffs like you.... really awesome...
It’s not that hard. You should give it a try. Thanks so much for watching.
