    Mycogeeky had a guest on his stream that said he used a old water bed for humidity/heat and black trash bags for his first grows. Pretty cool.

    Black bags dont prevent pinning in various other locations on the bag. There is a high chance pins will be in other locations away from the filter patch. These areas of attempted growth occur even in the absence of light 😎

      Yeah except that's not true. The black bags absolutely reduce the amount of pinning, we even noticed running the filter patch face up will make pins form under the filter patch. Also, it depends on what species we are talking about because they all respond to light differently

    Awesome! Only downside is not being able to see any contams or colonization

      Not an issue if your operation is dialed in. We run one clear bag per bag of spawn lot just to watch how it runs but we rarely get contaminated bags. Sub 1%.

      You could additionally smell through the micron filter patch. Molds, like trich, have a distinctly unpleasant smell, while mycelium - each shroom being different - have very pleasant smell, unless sick/rotting.
      Neat to note people who post mushroom foraging videos don't really talk about using sense of smell, but when you work with these guys you really get to know the subtle and sometimes large differences in smell. You can use that sniffer to help you find shrooms in the forest. :)

      Oh, and as far as colonization, if dialed in you should be on a consistent schedule. Otherwise, feeling / squeezing the bag can give an indication with most shrooms as the blocks become much stiffer.

    Maybe colonise in a transparent bag and then put that in a black bag?

    Excellent findings Eric! Thanks for passing this along.
    Question for you. Are your average harvests numbers (1.98lb clear, 2.33lb black) for the first flush only?

    • @MyersMushroomsFarms
      @MyersMushroomsFarms  8 месяцев назад

      Yes we only did first flush on this batch, the 2nd rack is being harvested and logged a bit better to track the entire 48 bag lot.

    7 mushrooms instead of 6, due to a minor change... not bad
    Btw congrats on reaching 1kg of mushrooms per bag 😊
