I just got a couple 1176n. Never heard a compressor that thickens up and finishes a signal like the 2264alb. It replaces eq almost completely if the kit is recorded at the proper levels.
@@maxbauhof It depends on what's needed I guess. Whether it's acoustic drums or synthesized drums too. Either way they slap hard. I know the all buttons in trick but what about doing different button combinations.
how would you compare with the AML 2254 clones? Thanks! Torn between these two units (and the 2254r from Neve, which you hear nothing about these days..)
This is a new one, the build quality felt good but I remember not being in love with it when I demoed it. But obviously everyone has their own thing and you could love it. To me the faceplate is a bit busy and the sound was okay. For around the same money I would get the AML 52F50 personally
@@maxbauhof It might have also been the way you balanced/mixed the drums beforehand - the intro section sounded more like a camera mic then we went straight to the unit without hearing it in bypass. I really liked the sounds I was hearing tho. I never liked Neve comp plugins, the Waves VComp always sounded nervous and edgy to me, but you could hear some cool jungle-y depth in there. This is the first time I really listened to a proper unit and it has that dark deep quality in spades. I think I also love the sound of super-compressed drums (which I wouldn't do in a mix). Thanks dude!
Yeah it’s not the best source drum sound for the compressor honestly but you can def hear it working, haha. I find to me ears that certain songs, grooves really work well with bridge diode compressors and sometimes they don’t
Another good video, thanks Max. In your opinion, how does this compare, sound wise, to the AML comp? Im looking for a 2254/64 style comp with some modern controls/features.
I wasn’t thrilled about this 2264, maybe I just need to try it on some other sources. For me I’d go with the AML. My favorite among the new bridge diode compressors though is the 33609, it’s not cheap though hah. AML makes a 3 spot 2254 and a 2 slot 2254. The 3 slot is a replica, the 2 slot doesn’t have the limiter section but has a Side chain and I think some faster release options
@@maxbauhof Right on, good to know. I will have to look into the 2 slot AML as Im only familiar with the 3 slot. So you say the 33609 you like the best, is that the latest edition/version?
How u like the ez73 modules as far as the sound comparing to vintage. Was the drums tracked with them? Have u eva compared them to heritage? Aml like half the price (reasonable) , sounds like good investment
I’ve never compared them side by side but I’ve tracked with vintage 1073s and 31104s and the AMLs sound great- Colin from AML knows what he is doing. Yeah all the drums are tracked with them, I have a demo of running some drums through the AML on here. I’ve never compared to the heritage, I think for the price and sound the AML cannot be beat. Thanks for watching.
@@maxbauhof how do u like the sound. I need 1 tracking compressor for 500 series. Do you recommend this or the chandler opto since you may have possibly used both
@@zanem9022 Hmm you definitely have more options with the 2264 but between the two i’d get the opto for tracking. Another nice option is the tree audio LC1.
@@maxbauhof For what reason u recommend one over other. Does the opto sounds more smooth or has more weight? Or color. Ill check the one you recommended
@@zanem9022 I just don’t personally love the compression characteristic of the 2264ALB. I like a lot of other neve stuff but this one didn’t move me. The Chandler and tree audio are both optos. I think the tree is the easiest and most forgiving on sources if you just wanna plug in and go. The Chandler although being an opto can get super grabby in the hard knee mode, so it gives you a couple brushes to paint with.
I love what the limiter is doing. It seems a great compressor!
its no denying what that transformer is doing to sound. its a night and day difference

@@maxbauhof Yes
@@maxbauhof Did you do any additive eq to this demo?
Nice, can’t go wrong with the 1176. I can’t remember if I boosted anything but probably added a high shelf to it

I would get the AML personally, it’s been awhile since I demoed either but I just didn’t love the neve 2264alb
@@maxbauhof thanks so much!
Hi Max, is that one of the new ones or a vintage one? Hows the build quality on them..? Sounds amazing.

Yeah, if you get the 2 slot lemme know how you like it- I’m curious about it too. The 33600 is the the Neve “33609N”
I’m gonna do another demo on the AML 54f50 again soon with more sources and a mix.

@@maxbauhof very nice. I may grab 1 or two, im also eyeing their ez81 as well

Sounds like it’d be good for dub drums
It has tone that's for sure
Yeah, just a little pokey for me.
