I love that your sound on piccolo trumpet is still immediately recognizable as YOUR trumpet sound. I don't play, but I'm a baritone who has done this aria with many trumpeters and you make it sound like it's nothing difficult at all!
Very nice. My last orchestra concert 12 years ago before retiring as a professional musician featured Handel's Messiah, and I said goodbye to my career as a professional with this piece on my beloved Selmer Paris piccolo trumpet, the only instrument I kept. Thanks for sharing.
a favourite song of mine - nicely played! i played a piccolo for the first time last weekend - definitely a different instrument compared to the Bb trumpet! any general tips for choosing a piccolo trumpet mouthpiece, and what do you personally use?
Thank you for the kind words! I personally use a Giddings stainless steel shallow cup, 3 rim, and tight backbore. My piccolo is a Schilke P5-4, which receives a trumpet shank. Other piccolo brands take a cornet shank, such as Yamaha. There are valid arguments for both. It’s ultimately a matter of personal preference. Mouthpieces are very personal, so I don’t necessarily recommend mine for everyone. I suggest that you stick with the same rim you use for the Bb, and experiment with different cup depths to find the right match for you. If you can afford it, Harrelson makes interchangeable mouthpiece components that are extremely educational to play around with. When you find the best combination, I recommend purchasing a solid version. Best of luck!
Extended Bb Schilke leadpipe with cornet shank mouthpiece. I have since switched to a Blackburn leadpipe that receives a trumpet mouthpiece and I like it better.
This tone quality is absolutely insane
Thank you!

@@TrumpetThrower awesome - thanks for the guidance!
was this played on an A cornet?
Piccolo trumpet in A
with original Schilke A-leadpipe or extended Bb-leadpipe (as recommended) ? @@TrumpetThrower

@@TrumpetThrower 👍🎺
bien joué mais il faut le faire en concert dorénavant pas facile de trouver un orchestre et un chanteur bonne chance
très vrai! donc je vais continuer à jouer des extraits du mieux que je peux
Doesn’t count, not an open keyed baroque trumpet. Level up broooo
Oh well, go and find the Dashon Burton clip (there are two I think) and make yourself happy.
