Fun fact, the setting of this short is actually a playable map called "Hanamura!" One of my personal favorites, the map even has a winter version during the Winter Wonderland event! Your comment about Genji needing nerfed is funny, because most of the players that actually play Genji have been calling for him to be buffed for a long while! Most of Genji and Hanzo's abilities are exactly how they're shown here, with a bit of an exception with Hanzo. Not too long ago he got a bit of a mini-rework, in which his scatter shot was replaced with the ability to rapidfire a few shots for reduced damage and he gained the ability to do a short dash after jumping. The reason for this rework was due to the fact that his scattershot could one shot almost any character in the game if they were in a corridor, which had little to no counterplay. As you can imagine, this was pretty frustrating for just about everyone except the Hanzo player and his team. Onto some lore, Genji and Hanzo are, or were, heirs to the Shimada Clan, which had a large influence over much of Japan. Hanzo took the yakuza life seriously, while Genji was more of a playboy (to the point of dying his hair neon green, which is a skin in game) that spent most of his time goofing off. During this time, Genji was nicknamed "Sparrow", which explains the significance of the feather that keeps appearing. The yakuza elders, repulsed by his actions, ordered Hanzo to "get Genji out of the equation." The following fight ensued where Hanzo knelt to pray, with Hanzo actually using the sword shown. After the fight was over, Genji was more or less dead on the ground and Hanzo fled out of shame. Genji was eventually found and rescued by Overwatch, turning him into a cyborg. Hanzo left the yakuza clan and vowed to never use a sword again, instead picking up the bow we see. For a time after, Genji was distraught due to not accepting his new body. He was used by Overwatch's Black Ops Division, aptly named Blackwatch, as essentially just a giant weapon. After Overwatch's disbandment, he traveled to Nepal and seeked refuge with a group of Omnic monks, the Shambali. The Omnic that was killed in "Alive", Mondatta, was one of the high members of this group. There he was mentored by Zenyatta (a playable character with no real lore appearances) and learned to accept his body. The cinematic actually occurs several years after, and not long after Winston's recall. As the lore stands right now, neither Hanzo or Genji have done too much up to the present. Though whenever you watch things while commenting with other people you're bound to miss a lot of detail, especially in audio (since you also have to listen to the other people). Quick lore. They were kind of like a yakuza clan I believe which their father was boss. Somewhere along the line Hanzo (arrow guy) became boss and genji (ninja guy) did something to dishonor the clan. Hanzo was dutybound to kill him but apparently he fucked it up without knowing and genji got turned into a cyborg because his injuries where life-threatening. Genji was then recruited into overwatch and did a bunch of cool shit there before it was shut down.
Back again with a few juicy (Non-Spoiler) items to clear some blanks. Hanzo is what you'd call a Free Agent not belonging to either side or even a third-party. The reason being he fell out with the Shimada Ninja Clan after Genji's supposed death either afterwards or directly because of it. Don't know if he started another independent clan or not. Genji is Overwatch Genji was rescued by Overwatch's lead medical scientist & everyone's favorite healer Mercy. ( They have no cinematic to go over this so I feel comfortable going over it in a non-spoiler) Mercy put him back together turning him into a Android. It hints in a few Easter eggs that Genji fell for Mercy at that time. So there's a romance aka ship there. Zenata another member of Overwatch and a spiritual Omnic like Onata who got assassinated in the Alive short, helped him through his healing process & anger at Hanzo. Zenata is another healer in-game. Hanzo has a bias against omnics like a lot of people after the wars have. Which is why when he said "What have you become?" was with a little disgust. They're 2 of my absolute favorites in Overwatch.
Love the video guys. But a little background for overwatch, there are three parties known in overwatch right now. One is overwatch which are the good guys like Winston and tracer, and then their is talon, which is the bad guys like reaper and widowmaker. They were trying to steal doomfist's gauntlet who is the leader of talon. And their are omnics, which are like robots. Some are good and some are bad. Anyways hope this little info helps, great video guys :) love to see you all play overwatch some day.
Haha they’ll never know scatter arrow was removed (the one with the arrows scattering in the underside of the entrance of the temple) and replaced with storm arrow (shoots already full charged arrows rapidly) due to one shotting you at a certain angle while being closed range. *cries in Mercy Main*
Technically, he didn't want power, but to honor his clan, as he felt Genji was dishonoring the clan. So he thought he murdered him, but Genji was saved.
Fun fact: The feather genji left was a sparrow feather. It’s a little Easter egg because when genji and Hanzo were younger their father called genji Sparrow
Hanzo cut off both genji's legs below the knee, brutally scarred his face and torso, and chopped off his right arm with the same sword he was praying to
Hanzo is actually a better swordsman than Genji (which is why he gets the advantage in the battle even though he was using a bow as a sword), but after "killing" Genji he put down the sword and vowed never to use it again and instead picked up the bow.
@G-Mineo Ok quick Lore Dump for you guys since it has yet to be explored in an Animated Short. Genji was part of an Overwatch Black Ops Team called, appropriately enough, Blackwatch. Reaper was the Commanding Officer of Blackwatch. He betrayed Overwatch and "killed" Overwatch's Commander, his former best friend. Reaper was recruited by a Criminal Organization called Talon and works for them alongside Widowmaker. If you go back and look at the Heroes that pop up on Winston's screen in Recall when he initiates the Overwatch Recall, you'll see Genji there. As far as Hanzo and Genji are concerned, Hanzo didn't want power. Being the older brother, he was basically handed power. As the heir apparent, he felt it was his duty to confront and kill his younger brother, Genji, when Genji defied the family, realizing they were criminals. The Sword in the Shrine is Hanzo's Sword. The same sword he used to "kill" Genji. If you couldn't tell by his clothing, Hanzo is a Samurai. After he "killed" Genji, Hanzo gave up his sword having brought dishonor to himself, the way of the Samurai, and his blade. Hanzo, being the older brother, was always at odds with his duty to the clan/family and his honor as a Samurai and love for his brother. The guys that Hanzo takes out in the beginning of the Animated Short are his own people. Those are members of The Shimada Clan (Hanzo and Genji's last name is Shimada). Ok so now to address your question about Genji's remark to Hanzo about picking a side. The one thing you have realize is that all of these Animated Shorts takes place shortly after Winston initiates Overwatch Recall. So by this point in time, Genji has received Winston's message. The reason Genji is here is to recruit Hanzo to Overwatch. With Winston's message, Genji knows that a war between Overwatch and Talon is imminent and that his family, The Shimada Clan, would be a natural place for Talon to turn to for allies, being criminals and all. And having witnessed firsthand the betrayal of his Commanding Officer in Overwatch, he knows Hanzo would be on Talon's shortlist for recruitment. So he wanted to get to Hanzo before Talon did. And he has. Genji has offered Hanzo that which he most seeks: Redemption. The question know remains: Will Hanzo accept his brother's offer? As of this writing, we don't know the answer to that. My guess is that, yes, Hanzo will join Overwatch with his brother. Anyway, hope this wasn't too overwhelming and that it has helped. Looking forward to the rest of your reactions!
All the cinematics that we see, with the exception of the first, are set in maps in the actual game: Winston's happens in the map Watchpoint: Gibraltar Tracer/Widowmaker in King's Row, London Hanzo/Genji in Hanamura, Japan Reinhardt's in Eichenwald, Germany Sombra's in Volskaya Industries, Russia Soldier 76 in Dorado McCree/Ashe in Route 66, USA Also, the "government team" Wade keeps refering to is actually an evil organisation called Talon that tries to manipulate things in the shadows. Playable characters that are members of Talon are: Reaper, Widowmaker, Sombra, Doomfist, Moira, and Sigma.
So Hanzo is OP for Squishies, non-tanks, cuz hit arrows if they hit a headshot can oneshot peeps cuz it does so much damage. That scatter shot you saw where he made 1 arrow scatter everywhere used to be in the game but since the arrows bounced until they went off map you could potentially get headshotted around the building and across the map without him ever actually aiming at you or even knowing you were there. There's quite a bit Genji can't deflect and it is on a cool down. Projectile he can but so long as you bait it and wait it your fine. Zarya, Sym, Brig and Rein primary fires can't be deflected. He's also a very in your face kind of char so you need to get used to fast cam movement to get good with him
The story behind Hanzo and genji is that when they were young, genji found out that their family was doing illegal stuff and wanted to make it public, their father found out what genji was trying to do and had hanzo "kill" him. But he survived. Due to killing his brother the rest of the clan banished hanzo... and the choose a side is the side of the overwatch team or the talon team. Who are the two main forces in the game besides null sector which is run by omnics (robots)
Lore time! Hanzo and Genji was part of klan called the Shamadia clan. Obviously they are brothers Hanzo being the oldest and Genji being the youngest. Their father was the leader of the klan, and Hanzo took it very seriously. Genji on the other hand didn’t. So his father asked hanzo to tell Genji to get serious but Genji refused. Resulting in the battle. And actually during the battle Hanzo used a sword that you see in the video in the temple, he used the sword to he thinks kills his brother, after that day he never touched a sword again and went to bow and arrow. After the battle, Hanzo believes he killed his brother but in fact he just left him for dead. Dr. Ziegler or more known as Mercy from the Overwatch team found him barely alive, she took him under her wing and helped him slowly start the process of being half Omnic, and half human. But it wasn’t enough, after Overwatch gets disbanded Genji goes to seek out a monk called, Zenyetta. He and Genji work together for awhile working on acceptance, healing, peace of mind. Then he accepts what he is now, and he went to his brother that he forgives him. When Genji said “it’s time to pick a side” the Klan that the brothers where in were shady (And my personal opinion is why Genji wanted no part in it) Genji asked Hanzo that question cause the their was no more Klan. Is is he good or bad? Which side is he on? Hope that helps 😬
Heres some Background on the Brothers: -Hanzo was the leader of a crime syndicate family that sell drugs and other illegal business -Both brothers were trained as assassins and ninjas -Hanzo the older brother was the Heir of the family leading the family to further glory -Genji enjoyed the training but had no interest in the familys illegal business, instead he was playboy party type guy -The Elders of the family told Hanzo to bring Genji into the fold of the family business or kill him -Genji rejected the family business enraging Hanzo until a confrontation in which Hanzo "Killed Genji" -Hanzo felt terrible afterwards and realized what he has become. He also left the family and the Shimada household (the place this trailer takes place -Hanzo lives a life as a mercenary trying to redeem his honor and returns to this location every year to honor his brother -Overwatch found him and saved his life, he then went under extensive Cyberization and joined Overwatch, with one goal, destroy the Shimada Empire -Genji destroyed the family and once it was over he left Overwatch, he hated his body and believed himself a monster then he encountered an Omnic Monk -After training with the Omnic Monk and accepting himself some more time passes by. -Winston recalls Overwatch and Genji decides to reunite with his brother offering him a chance to change his path -This Trailer is the outcome
The cyborg Genji Shimada has made peace with the augmented body he once rejected, and in doing so, he has discovered a higher humanity. As the youngest son of the master of the Shimada ninja clan, Genji lived a life of luxury and privilege. He had little interest in the family's illegal businesses, and although he excelled at and enjoyed his ninja training, he spent most of his time pursuing a playboy lifestyle. Many within the clan considered the carefree Genji to be a dangerous liability, and they resented his father for coddling and protecting him. Following the clan leader's untimely death, Genji's older brother, Hanzo, demanded that Genji take a more active role in their late father's empire. Genji refused, enraging Hanzo. The tension between the brothers built to a violent confrontation that left Genji on the verge of dying. Hanzo believed that he had killed his brother, but Genji was rescued by Overwatch and the intervention of Dr. Angela Ziegler. The global security force saw Genji as a potential asset in its ongoing operations to combat the Shimada clan. As Genji's injuries left him clinging to life, Overwatch offered to rebuild his body in exchange for his help. He was put through an extensive process of cyberization, which enhanced his natural speed and agility and augmented his superlative ninja skills. Transformed into a living weapon, Genji single-mindedly set about the task of dismantling his family's criminal empire. But as time passed, Genji felt increasingly at war with himself. He was repulsed by the mechanical parts of his body and could not come to grips with what he had become. When his mission was complete, he abandoned Overwatch and wandered the world in search of meaning. He drifted for many years before crossing paths with the omnic monk Zenyatta. Though Genji initially rejected Zenyatta's wisdom, the benevolent omnic would not be deterred. In time, Zenyatta became his mentor, and under the monk's tutelage, Genji reconciled his dual existence as both man and machine. He learned to accept that although he had a cyborg body, his human soul was intact, and he came to see his new form as a gift and a unique strength. Now, for the first time in his life, Genji is free. Even he cannot say where his path will ultimately lead. Also, this origin story of Genji is from Overwatch's official site. All heroes have their own origin stories like this. So feel free to check it out!
No one gonna tell them that the blue sword was originally Hanzo’s. Hanzo used that sword to “kill” genji. After that he put down the sword and then picked up the bow.

Somewhere along the line Hanzo (arrow guy) became boss and genji (ninja guy) did something to dishonor the clan. Hanzo was dutybound to kill him but apparently he fucked it up without knowing and genji got turned into a cyborg because his injuries where life-threatening. Genji was then recruited into overwatch and did a bunch of cool shit there before it was shut down.
the wade concept wtf
My dude only called it because he was constantly talking over the misdirects :P
I love how the girl always says "It´s like Avatar/ Game of thrones "
Dude , I like the guy on the left side , he is listening to the story and the conversation very carefully lol.
Genji is Overwatch
Genji was rescued by Overwatch's lead medical scientist & everyone's favorite healer Mercy. ( They have no cinematic to go over this so I feel comfortable going over it in a non-spoiler)
Mercy put him back together turning him into a Android.
Zenyatta and Mondatta*
@@callmesilver2683 thank you
aaaAAA I HAVEN'T BEEN THIS EXCITED FOR A RUclips VIDEO IN A WHILE
THANK YOU FOR THE SUPPORT
I get the vibe that they speak during a movie
Was another great Overwatch cinematic. Good job team G-Mineo! I can't wait for you guys to get the the Reinhardt and McCree cinematic :D
That's really helpful! Thank you for letting us know:D
A leader not THE leader
Haha they’ll never know scatter arrow was removed (the one with the arrows scattering in the underside of the entrance of the temple) and replaced with storm arrow (shoots already full charged arrows rapidly) due to one shotting you at a certain angle while being closed range. *cries in Mercy Main*
Rip scatter arrows
Them struggling to read the names me: who knows how to pronounce Japanese names perfectly (angry noises)
you are the worst kind of person
Wade is that you 😂😂 didn’t expect this on my recommended
They were talking more then they were paying attention to the actual story
Been patiently waiting for this one.
Overwatch is one of my favorite games. It has a nice story and I can't wait to see you guys react to more cinematics. Great reactions as always 💖
GREAT! I WAS WAITING ALL WEEK THIS! really wanana see more overwatch reactions
'this guy needs to be nerfed'
*give me strength*
Technically, he didn't want power, but to honor his clan, as he felt Genji was dishonoring the clan. So he thought he murdered him, but Genji was saved.
Mada Mada
Andrew and the rest of us cas my god is this cinematic just 👏👏 blizzard really went and outdid themselves
Yes, one of the best ones. Can't wait to watch.
Fun fact: The feather genji left was a sparrow feather. It’s a little Easter egg because when genji and Hanzo were younger their father called genji Sparrow
Fun fact Genji’s nickname is Sparrow (which was an insult by his father) and the feather in the animatic resemble a sparrow’s feather.
I like it, they were definitely not faking. Would love to see more.
Hanzo cut off both genji's legs below the knee, brutally scarred his face and torso, and chopped off his right arm with the same sword he was praying to
The Shimada lore between Genji, Hanzo and Sojiro has more holes than a cheese grater but it is still interesting as heck!
“Seemed like we’re in China”
Me:bruh
Hanzo is actually a better swordsman than Genji (which is why he gets the advantage in the battle even though he was using a bow as a sword), but after "killing" Genji he put down the sword and vowed never to use it again and instead picked up the bow.
“This guy needs to be nerfed”
He’s getting buffed actually 😂
Yasss, the crew had finally reacted to best cinematic ever!!!! 😍😍
All the cinematics that we see, with the exception of the first, are set in maps in the actual game:
Winston's happens in the map Watchpoint: Gibraltar
Tracer/Widowmaker in King's Row, London
Hanzo/Genji in Hanamura, Japan
Reinhardt's in Eichenwald, Germany
Sombra's in Volskaya Industries, Russia
Soldier 76 in Dorado
McCree/Ashe in Route 66, USA
Also, the "government team" Wade keeps refering to is actually an evil organisation called Talon that tries to manipulate things in the shadows. Playable characters that are members of Talon are:
Reaper, Widowmaker, Sombra, Doomfist, Moira, and Sigma.
Ugh I get chills every damn time I watch that short.
Same
Me who look at every good game animayion look at their vid is like ahhhhhhhh they so late I remember evertthing.
hahaha better late than never!😁 Thanks for watching!
He's also a very in your face kind of char so you need to get used to fast cam movement to get good with him
After the "recall" short winston broadcasts a message to all overwatch agents and that same cinematic shows when you launch the game
YES this is the one Ive been waiting for!!!!!
This is an old comment. That isn't what it was. THeir father was assassinated. The elders had Hanzo kill their brother.
Hope that helps 😬
when I see this I was like
Genji: *don't want to kill* brother
Me: WHAT THE F**** THAT HIS BROTHER!?
This is the animated short that inspired me to buy the game in the first place!
Heres some Background on the Brothers:
-Hanzo was the leader of a crime syndicate family that sell drugs and other illegal business
-Both brothers were trained as assassins and ninjas
-Hanzo the older brother was the Heir of the family leading the family to further glory
-Genji enjoyed the training but had no interest in the familys illegal business, instead he was playboy party type guy
-The Elders of the family told Hanzo to bring Genji into the fold of the family business or kill him
-Genji rejected the family business enraging Hanzo until a confrontation in which Hanzo "Killed Genji"
-Hanzo felt terrible afterwards and realized what he has become. He also left the family and the Shimada household (the place this trailer takes place
-Hanzo lives a life as a mercenary trying to redeem his honor and returns to this location every year to honor his brother
-Overwatch found him and saved his life, he then went under extensive Cyberization and joined Overwatch, with one goal, destroy the Shimada Empire
-Genji destroyed the family and once it was over he left Overwatch, he hated his body and believed himself a monster then he encountered an Omnic Monk
-After training with the Omnic Monk and accepting himself some more time passes by.
-Winston recalls Overwatch and Genji decides to reunite with his brother offering him a chance to change his path
-This Trailer is the outcome
Nothing can stop with the bond of G-mineo the cutest thing ever💓
Feels like 2016 when this short first came out and everybody started reacting to these haha
PLEASE never stop reacting to ow animated shorts. I literally cry everytime someone reacts to them because of nostalgia or something lol
You guys really need to watch Honor and Glory. Its probably my favourite overwatch animated story.
Wade: "I bet it's his brother. Deffinetly his brother. Probably his brother. Gotta be his brother." *Ruins the surprise like an asshole*

This girl too emotional. OOOOMGG THEY ARE BROOOOOTHEEWRS. OSCAR!
"Genji needs nerfed"??? In what meta are you playing? Genji hasn't been viable for two years.
cant you take a joke?
especially because he is plenty viable and even professional players love playing him
@Wade guess and reaction are on point!
Him guessing he was his brother was too prefect. Pretty sus if you ask me.
The reason genji had a feather was because his nickname when he was young was sparrow
The guy in the middle: This guy need a nerf
Blizzard: No
The cyborg Genji Shimada has made peace with the augmented body he once rejected, and in doing so, he has discovered a higher humanity.
YESSS! My favourite short!
Wade?????
Hahaha im dying best answer for guessing hes his brother hes green 🤣👏👏 accurate love it
Them: this guy needs a nerf. Blizzard: will give genji MASSIVE buffs

Dragons was my favourite Overwatch short story for a long time , until I watched Zero hour .....tears I tell you
I'm so excited for you guys to react to "shooting star"!
No one gonna tell them that the blue sword was originally Hanzo’s. Hanzo used that sword to “kill” genji. After that he put down the sword and then picked up the bow.
"The arab guy with the dragons ultimate" - in Japan... Literally his hometown... Lmao
Normies are so loud
Hanzo: almost kills “Fonz”
Them: NO not the phone TO FAR
