I love this performance because it’s so raw. This is rare of her to make a song where she doesn’t fully belt out, but I like it that way, especially for a song like this
Yeah 100% agreed! Tristan said that she was “holding it in” with a soft belt, it makes so much sense- she is trying to hold back her emotions, insecurities. It must be so difficult to sing about your deepest insecurities to so many strangers.. Her soft belt makes this performance so much more authentic
I was at this festival and i saw this performance live and all i can say is that it was completely mindblowing and one of the most emotional and passionate performances ive ever seen. This woman is absolutely priceless. One of a kind.
The reason I don't comment at length on her personal issues is because I don't think they are my business. Unless Demi has come out at length talking about the exact meaning of this song as it relates to her life I wouldn't feel comfortable speculating about it's exact meaning. I hope you understand. My job as a vocal coach is to break down the technical elements of a performance the best I can. That was my intention with this video. My focus was not on Demi's personal struggles though, of course, I hope she is doing OK.
Tristan Paredes ok. But just so you know, in multiple interviews, demi has said all her songs are personal experiences. And on her Instagram story she thanks people who have always been there and she got a new tattoo that says free with some of her friends that have been there. Also, I love you so much
I dont know if you notice or not but when demi sang "im sorry for the fans i lost", the crowd screamed so loud and that made her emotional...she was sobbing the whole damn time man. Am A #lovatic
I don't know if he noticed it or not either, but I did. It damn near broke my heart listening to Demi continue to slay the song even through her tears, probably because she felt like she had to, like she couldn't disappoint anyone else by stopping the performance.
Everyone's drawing attention to the fact that she got emotional (and that he missed that) but he didn't say anything bad about it at all. The song is beautiful and he even says that he likes it
everybody lies but tøp is perfect in fact i think that if he missed that is because she slayed this song so good that you wouldn't even notice if you didn't know what she's been throught
mErDzKy09 she is an addict, a drug addict and alcoholic with an eating disorder. Did you watch her simply complicated documentary? She’s very open about it
Danielle Middleton yes omg, the documentary is amaaaazing!! And you are right, she is an addict. Im so so sorry for her because she is such a good human being! I love her!!❤
she was an addict. She's no longer one. She stopped being one when she decided to get herself sober. I dont like it when people call her an addict because she recovered from that, except now she relapsed. I watched that documentary. I've been with her since 2011.
Demi is/ was an alchoholic and a drug addict, and she has been sober for six years this past March. In this song she admits she broke her sobriety, people are saying it happened 2 months ago, I don't know it that's confirmed tho. So this song is so heartbreaking...
I was in this concert, she left after that song without even saying goodbye, I think she was just too emotional... Idk but the concert was amazing and her voice is just dreamy
Oh, you genuinely didn't know. Well I guess you also didnt know in your last Demi react video that she sang mostly poprock. Uhm, so like a quick recap was that she had a really troubled young life and a bad relationship with her dad or something, plus points for an eating disorder. So when she started out after Camp Rock, she spiraled out of control, underage drinking and cocaine, punched a crew member who snitched about her doing drugs etc, and she was taken to rehab. They handled it really well and it was pretty low key. Around this time her friendship with Selena fell out completely. Couple of years later, Demi comes back with Skyscraper and the following albums focused on her coming back and finding her new self after rehab. She dedicated a lot of her time to awareness for addiction. She got really good in Judo I think??? And then she collabed on an athleisure brand called Fabletics I think. But also it came with her breaking off her relationship of six years and trying to date other people and understand herself outside of the context of being this other person's Capital-P Person. So yeah, Sober is a very literal song. Just like her other songs, Love of a Daughter, etc. She has amazing emotional honesty when she writes her music, and it's not all just pop. I personally think she handles her issues really well, like this is the healthiest I've seen a celebrity handle her addiction (and her bipolar disorder and her eating disorder) in full view of the public. And she really uses her position to show how human a person with addiction is rather than the caricature of the child pop star grown wild. She doesn't have to, but she does it anyway. A real service.
Since I found out Demi had bipolar II I always felt a little connection with her bc I have it too. Putting out this song is a good step forward and she’s so honest in her music.
Few months ago,Demi was celebrating her 6years of sobriety and now she wanted to let everyone know that she isn't sober anymore through her song :/ so this song is kind of an apology to everyone that she relapsed again and she basically describes her life for the past few months. That's why her song didn't have crazy vocals, cuz she just wants everyone to pay attention to her lyrics...it's a very emotional song.
Demi had been sober for 6years (after rehab) and in the last couple of months relapsed with alcohol, it is such an emotional song throughout the song she was nearly in tears because she kept thinking fans would leave her because of it. Demi has always been so open about her struggles to help other and this took a lot of courage to release and perform. Her performance in London from last night was much stronger I found as she felt more confident about it and all the love she has gotten she didn't cry through it, she is a role model to everyone and I admire her for it!
The fact her fans let her know that they’re not going anywhere made me cry. And the fact that she still killed it while crying just makes her even more amazing
When one of tristans videos popped up in my recommended i watched it and thought that he was an asshole..but latley ive gotten hooked on his videos and my opinion has changed, he actually seems really kind 👀
He’s so helpful and sweet to anyone who is trying to learn. He’s been (justifiably) annoyed at other vocal coaches trying to discredit him etc but I’ve never seen him actually being rude to a singer who’s genuinely trying to improve
Makenzie Cely she didn't say it rudely lol she said please stop it. because when one person mentions that its drugs everyone jumps on the band wagon saying she's doing drugs, when its drinking again. now had she said stop it just in general I would agree with you.
I'm sorry Tristan I like and see all your videos but I was there and this performance is something that transcends judgment, it's a super personal song for demi, it needs to be felt! I understand your point of view as vocal coach tho but I don't know if you noticed but she sings "I'm sorry for the fans I lost" and we started to scream a lot so she could understand we're not going anywhere, then she was almost bursting into tears! It was heartbreaking 😢
That's fine but it's my job to explain the technical aspect of what she's doing. If someone comes to me wanting to learn this song and I say "this song transcends judgment" I wouldn't be doing my job.
Tristan Paredes I completely get your point and in what cames to that I could recommend you to see Christina Aguilera's Masterclass when she's teaching how to sing Beautiful because she explains that the song is not about technique and that it needs to be sung imperfectly, because it is the imperfections that make it beautiful! Of course no one has the absolute truth (neither have I) but has she said "technique is only a quarter of it, passion and drive is like.. 100% " I guess that was the main idea of my first comment... Anyway I really like your videos, keep it up, it's just that I got triggered in this one 😅
Honestly speaking his channel isn’t about reacting to emotion. He stayed very proper period. He didn’t disrespect her struggle he did what he does explain technique. He commented on the passion and how beautiful it sounds. That’s about all he could really do bc as he said it’s her personal life and without getting in gossip or messiness he kept it at the art form as he should. He never downed her. I’m sure he noticed her almost in tears but he chose to stay out the politics of that sort of mess. This is the reason I like him and his channel. He keeps it on topic after all he has a brand to protect and bashing an artist or commenting on her personal life can do that. This is also why he stands out from most YT channels. Keep up the great work Tristan
This is currently my favorite song! I think it’s definitely one of Demi’s best. Especially the lyrics. They’re so raw and honest. I’m glad I finally got around to covering it since I constantly have it on repeat. I’m so impressed she sang this live and man the song sure hit me the first time I heard it. Knowing her story I feel so much for her in this song.
Celeste Lewis you don’t have to be a therapist to get emotional lmao. Op was just saying that they don’t understand how the emotion that demi put on this song didn’t make tristan cry bc a lot of people do that.
Please react to James Graham who stars on The Four. His popularity this season is comparable to Zhavia's, and that's because his voice is so smooth and impeccable. He's incredibly talented and he's one of the best male vocalists (apart from Brendon Urie, and perhaps a few others) that I've heard.
Harais Hussain he's not even close to one of the best male vocalists. I'm sorry, but Saeed was much better of a VOCALIST. He's not incredibly talented, the hype is too real lmao.
Hmm. Saeed invokes much more emotion than James 100%, his tone is always great. However I feel like that James has more mastery over his vocals, he controls them so well. His falsetto imo is far better than Saeed's and also controls them beautifully (as well as the rest of his range) for me James's tone is MORE pleasing. He can also ascend and descend from his lowest part of his register to his highest and vice versa. However all my opinions are subjective. Lets agree that James would dominate the Pop industry and Saeed the R&B industry.
Awww queen cat love him/her... lol Demi has a RUclips documentary about her life and getting sober. Sounds like she is struggling to stay sober. All these people who want to be famous, can’t handle the solitude the fame brings. They tend to turn to drugs and alcohol. It’s sad. I hope she gets help.
CheshireKat She’s been famous since she was a young kid though. She started in high school when she was told by a “cool” friend they were cool because they partied around. She has a whole documentary on it.
I literally just became addicted to your whole channel because not only is it educational for singers out there, but you are also truthfully funny. I am a singer myself and I love hearing all these interesting things that you look for in a singer. It is really fascinating. Hoping to apply some of the new knowledge I learned from some of your videos into my own singing.
I keep not subscribing to this channel and yet every single time i see your videos in my recommended i watch them for a while in a row. And i love you so much! I just worry if I subscribe your videos are gonna get lost in my overfilled sub box :D so imma keep at this i guess
Tristan Paredes hahah oh my god!!! Now i feel like i have to! :D Love you Tristan! Youre such a sweet person and its adorable when youre excited by someone’s singing! ^^ Im gonna sub now since you asked so nicely :P
Trust me I am subbed to so many channels that I never see their videos unless I click the notification bell so I just click it for everything and use my notifications as my sub box
That song makes me cry, and this performance makes it even worse. Yes it is a confession, she relapsed recently, a “source“ told E!news that she had to write and release Sober so she doesn't have to deal with that burden alone. Now she has the support of millions of Lovatics, which hopefully gives her the strength to fight her addiction again.
This song is about her very recent relapse after 6 years of being sober. I’m assuming it’s a relapse of alcohol because in April she was photographed with alcohol in her hand however she was also addicted to cocaine so it could be that as well.
I don’t mean this to be offensive, and she has confirmed that she has relapsed again. The music video confirms it as well as it shows clips from her most recent documentary. I believe she also wrote about it in the description of that video if I’m not incorrect.
this performance breaks my heart especially that she was crying and the fact the she overdosed and went to the hospital my heart is broken I am so glad she's getting the help she needs
MasterSkySparklez you can’t smoke drink or anything on RUclips you will get demonetized and could get age restricted do to him being under the influence it would be a funny but you gotta think that he’d probably choose to stay monetized
Sydney Gertsema YT allows the videos to be allowed but, it will get demonetized so you cant make any ad sense or view money from it. That’s why Jeffre star never smokes weed on camera anymore.
I was at this show, it just happened two days ago. This was the last song and she just left the stage, crying and didn't come back out. It was beautiful and incredibly emotional. She is an incredible performer, but most of all an incredible human being. And her voice, oh, her voice
This performance was 100% raw emotion Also one of the most personal and emotional written songs in the history of music To give this a technical view is just wrong IMO Love your other vids tho Tristan!
She is always so raw in these songs. Her first live performances of Skyscraper, Stone Cold, Father, and now Sober break my heart. You can feel how raw her emotions are. I can't sing at all when I feel like I'm going to cry. She really is an amazing artist.
I know this song word for word already ❤️ I love this song so much and I’m super proud to be a lovatic ❤️🤪😍🤗 I love how she just so effortlessly kills all of her songs and always look perfect whilst doing it 😘😍😝❤️🤪😂😩
I would really love to see you react to Juliet Simms. She’s not super popular but got 2nd place on The Voice awhile ago. She has such a unique and raspy, emotional voice. It’s so powerful and I really would love to know your thoughts on it since some people consider her singing technique unhealthy or some just think it’s ugly but you seem to challenge that idea a lot! Her live acoustics are my favorite and her Voice performances because they’re all so raw. She reminds me of the more rock/raspy Demi
In case you didn't notice, she was CRYING so she was just kind of getting around her sobs. Very moving. All emotion. She recently triumphantly announced 6 Years Sober (at a concert), has been doing some amazing work in creating a counselling group she and her counsellor created, traveling around the country and before concerts in a small group setting. So yes, she recently fell off the wagon and is bravely not hiding it and dealing with it, like everyone should. Still a leader; you go, girl!
Hey can you react to Jessica Simpson music from the 90's ? Her voice is awesome but her technique seems horrible. One song in particular, "I Wanna Love You Forever" seems like an extremely difficult song to sing live with 3/4 having to be belted.
You NEED to react to Little Mix's best vocals! You may not know them but they are huge and you will be FLAWED by their vocals i promise you. There is a pop crush video but it doesnt have the best examples as always
She’s breathy because she’s crying... she was still using in this performance. The crowd started making her cry when she said “I’m sorry for the fans I lost” and They cheered so loud. I’d cry too.
Near the second time she sang the chorus, she was holding back her tears, and she still sang so beautifully. She is so strong and is so real with her fans and with the world.
So demi was struggling with her addiction (drugs and alcohol) and she became sober and she was doing so good for 6 years then she started drinking again because she feels lonely....I cry every time I hear this song because you can hear she is singing with her heart and it s rlly emotional...I love her so so much and I m really sorry for her. I hope she gets better soon. She is such a strong person and she s been through a lot. I just want to let her know we-her fans-are supporting her no matter what and we will love her forever
Anyone else legit cried the first time they listened to Sober and watched this video? Just think about how much freaking strength it must have taken for her to release this track and then perform it? I CANT WITH HER OMG SHE IS QUEEN
Me gosh, I'm pretty dang glad this showed up in my recommend, for these reasons 1 • That video was really damn entertaining 2 • It was funny, and...fun..? 3 • Meh name is Tristin
I love this performance because it’s so raw. This is rare of her to make a song where she doesn’t fully belt out, but I like it that way, especially for a song like this

everybody lies but tøp is perfect lol but like how do you not notice she’s getting choked up
Well, he's analyzing her vocal performance, as he is a vocal coach, rather just an overall performance
everybody lies but tøp is perfect in fact i think that if he missed that is because she slayed this song so good that you wouldn't even notice if you didn't know what she's been throught
THANK YOU!! I was thinking the same thing!!
I think the meaning of the song is that she was sober but she recently relapsed and that was such a beautiful performance omg Demi is so incredible
I dont think "recently relapsed into addiction" is accurate.
She's not an addict. She just had a bad moment
ah ok thanks for clearing that up :) I only know what I've read about it, I'll edit my original post!
mErDzKy09 she is an addict, a drug addict and alcoholic with an eating disorder. Did you watch her simply complicated documentary? She’s very open about it

Yes, the song is about a lately relapse of hers on alcohol. Poor baby😢❤

Since I found out Demi had bipolar II I always felt a little connection with her bc I have it too. Putting out this song is a good step forward and she’s so honest in her music.

I'm wondering, how he doesnt have to cry on this performance?!? And not noticing her hiding back the tears😫😓😟
Lena Uhlmann because he's a vocal coach and not a therapist. It's about her singing technique and the way she sings it not about her crying
Celeste Lewis you don’t have to be a therapist to get emotional lmao. Op was just saying that they don’t understand how the emotion that demi put on this song didn’t make tristan cry bc a lot of people do that.
Dane Trotter I know that's not what I meant. It's just not necessary for him to talk about that because he's focusing on his part on this video
Lena Uhlmann I think he does and choose not to talk about it
Love this song so much. I covered it immediately. I relate to this song so much. I'm working on getting sober myself so it just really hits home

Harais Hussain he daddy af
Awww queen cat love him/her... lol Demi has a RUclips documentary about her life and getting sober. Sounds like she is struggling to stay sober. All these people who want to be famous, can’t handle the solitude the fame brings. They tend to turn to drugs and alcohol. It’s sad. I hope she gets help.
Lisa Batten if I recall correctly, she started before she became famous.
CheshireKat
She’s been famous since she was a young kid though. She started in high school when she was told by a “cool” friend they were cool because they partied around. She has a whole documentary on it.
OOOOOHH THAT SINGING AT THE START
I literally just became addicted to your whole channel because not only is it educational for singers out there, but you are also truthfully funny. I am a singer myself and I love hearing all these interesting things that you look for in a singer. It is really fascinating. Hoping to apply some of the new knowledge I learned from some of your videos into my own singing.
She didn’t belt anything because she just wanted to get the story out, it wasn’t a performance as much as a message ya dig?
Amy Hurst exactly
OMG when she was crying I was crying!
Plz react to little mix
Sophia Hernandez yassssss
Yesssssssss
Yes including their new song with cheat codes called only you
Yesss omfgg
Sophia Hernandez yesssssss
This is an incredibly emotional song, and holding back tears. Really not meant to showcase her talent.. but more emotion.

I’m gonna cry while watching this😭 (I DIDNT FOR ONCE)
Rahma Shaikh I DID
Every time I hear it I cry it’s so sad
Zari S SAME
This song is about her very recent relapse after 6 years of being sober.
Ugh this song is heartbreaking. Addiction has destroyed the town I live in including family members. It makes me sad seeing anyone struggle with it.
this performance breaks my heart especially that she was crying and the fact the she overdosed and went to the hospital my heart is broken I am so glad she's getting the help she needs
I’m obsessed with her. She can get this recovery down. I can’t see her die. She’s too beautiful of a soul
This reminds me.. i thought you were gonna do a video when you *arent* sober?🤔🤔
DRUNK REACTION VIDEOSSS
MasterSkySparklez you can’t smoke drink or anything on RUclips you will get demonetized and could get age restricted do to him being under the influence it would be a funny but you gotta think that he’d probably choose to stay monetized
MasterSkySparklez stone cold is her best song to date. Most grown up song. She doesn't sound so teenagerish
Joey Kelly 01 ummm tana mongeau smoked weed in one of her vids
Sydney Gertsema YT allows the videos to be allowed but, it will get demonetized so you cant make any ad sense or view money from it. That’s why Jeffre star never smokes weed on camera anymore.
I was at this show, it just happened two days ago. This was the last song and she just left the stage, crying and didn't come back out. It was beautiful and incredibly emotional. She is an incredible performer, but most of all an incredible human being. And her voice, oh, her voice
This performance was 100% raw emotion
Also one of the most personal and emotional written songs in the history of music
To give this a technical view is just wrong IMO
Love your other vids tho Tristan!
It was requested multiple times on his last video. And he did recognize it as an emotional song, in the beginning.
LISTEN. TO. SUPERMARKET. FLOWERS.
You will be in tears its the most emotional song ever ahh
She is always so raw in these songs. Her first live performances of Skyscraper, Stone Cold, Father, and now Sober break my heart. You can feel how raw her emotions are. I can't sing at all when I feel like I'm going to cry. She really is an amazing artist.
“She looks like an orange bronzed goddess”😭🧡
It’s amazing how she can hold it together through the tears and still sound amazing.
I know this song word for word already ❤️ I love this song so much and I’m super proud to be a lovatic ❤️🤪😍🤗 I love how she just so effortlessly kills all of her songs and always look perfect whilst doing it 😘😍😝❤️🤪😂😩
I'm not crying...I swear....holy fuck that was such an emotional song!
When she said she's sorry to her fans and they all cheered, she started getting emotional. You can tell she really cares. I love her♥️
I adore this song ❤
neasa conghaile your french meme moi on est la chui morte ta ecrit i adore sa existe pas😂😂😂
Literally my day get so much better when you upload
UR LAUGH IS EVERYTHING!!!!!! IT MADE ME LAUGH!!!! OML NOW WE CAN BOND OVER OUR WEIRD LAUGHS!!! #WEIRDLAUGHSQUAD
DID HE ACTUALLY HIGHLIGHT MY COMMENT OML I AM FREAKING OUT THANK U SOOOOO MUUUUUCH...stach luv u ❤️
I've dealt with addiction for 10 years. Finally have a year clean and I can relate to this song.. stay strong demi..id love to just hug her
You NEED to react to Little Mix's best vocals! You may not know them but they are huge and you will be FLAWED by their vocals i promise you. There is a pop crush video but it doesnt have the best examples as always
Jo White agreed
I appreciate that you put out so many videos so quickly.
DEMI LOVATO THE ORANGE BRONZE GODESSSSS. Please react to Dua Lipa
Please react to "13 times when Harry Styles vocals had me shook"
The fake yelling is suchhh a smart explanation. That makes so much sense...something just clicked in my brain. Thank yououuuhu
She was crying if you haven’t catch that.....listen to her lyric video cause that song is actually beautiful and heartbreaking💔
She’s breathy because she’s crying... she was still using in this performance. The crowd started making her cry when she said “I’m sorry for the fans I lost” and They cheered so loud. I’d cry too.
I'm a new subscriber, and I'm having so much fun watching your videos!! You're awesome!! Keep up the good work 😍😍
Near the second time she sang the chorus, she was holding back her tears, and she still sang so beautifully. She is so strong and is so real with her fans and with the world.
TRIST FAMMM
oh shit, wudup
She’s so underrated. She’s so purely talented and brilliant and heart touching
Hi Tristan, can you please react to Harry Styles live vocals or Carpool Karaoke ? 🙈
Tristan please make it happen!
Demi is so, so incredible. She sounded like she choked up a bit at the end which made me cry and it’s such an emotional song. it’s truth
Omg that editing was so funny 🤣
Anyone else legit cried the first time they listened to Sober and watched this video? Just think about how much freaking strength it must have taken for her to release this track and then perform it? I CANT WITH HER OMG SHE IS QUEEN
Me gosh, I'm pretty dang glad this showed up in my recommend, for these reasons
1 • That video was really damn entertaining
2 • It was funny, and...fun..?
3 • Meh name is Tristin
Tristin Tree hey, my name is Tristan!!!!!!
I was there. I could feel her pain in this music....that make me cry so hard. I was there singing with her and feeling her pain like it was mine too
4:40 she's crying thats why
The pop world TOTALLY needed another song called “Sober.”
you should react to Demi's live version of her song Father!!!
Every time I listen to this song and or performance I have to hold back from crying. So powerful. You can just feel how passionate she is
stop what you're doing right now and react to "Perrie Edwards - Best Vocals Live (PART 2)"
Crystal10 yassssss
YESS
I learn so many new things with your video. This is one of my fav Demi performances not just the passion but vocals
