Yeah that hit hard! What a powerful moment. My dad is 40 years sober and I remember him talking about trying to make amends with people he hurt. It's not an easy task and to do that for a huge audience, that let's you apologize, is amazing! I'm getting goosebumps now just thinking of that moment :)
at the time that this song was released, she had just hit her 6th year of sobriety. i remember the morning that this song came out and how the first time that i listened to it each word broke my heart more than the last. but what worried me most about the song was how rather than saying that she HAD made a mistake, she more so was telling everybody that she had fallen and accepted that she was no longer sober. it almost seemed like she had come to terms with the fact that she was once again abusing substances and was apologetic to others but okay with the fact that she was in that place. everybody was questioning whether the song was about the place she was in at that time or if it could’ve been about her past. and then if i remember correctly, it was almost exactly a month after the release that she had the overdose. and immediately there was a rush of realization that she was crying out for help that whole time. it’s still so hard to listen to this song because it immediately brings back that feeling of helplessness and the fear of what could happen. thank you for this reaction🤍
I interpreted it the exact same way when it came out. She apologized because she not only broke her sobriety but she wasn't fighting it anymore. So many people took it as one slip but it was a cry for help because she was drowning.
she actually did overdose in 2018 a month after this performance, her mom talked about how demi was in a coma for a few days and for about two weeks her family didn't even know if she was gonna make it
The way her voice broke down after they cheered for her when she apologized to them, my heart broke and the tears just started streaming down my face I love her so much and have been to two concerts, I wish I could meet her just to give her a hug and reassure her she’s loved ❤️
Thank you for reacting to Demi! Love your reaction to her! This song was realesed 1 month before she overdose and went to the hospital for more then 2 weeks! She broke her 6 years of sobraity. Her song "Anyone" you also reacted was written and recorded 4 days before the overdose so we can know how much she sufferd during this time! Please do more reaction of Demi she has some great ballads as you already know and has more upbite songs and even some pop/rock songs!
This song and performance were shortly before her overdose which is so crazy to think about. It really was a cry for help and nobody listened. She’s no longer with her old management and she spoke in an interview on ellen about how detrimental her old team were on her health, she’s with scooter Braun now (ariana grande’s manager) and seems a lot happier. Her song anyone was written a few days before her overdose too.
These lyrics are so very intimate and honest. 💖 I also heard, as commented by @Saggi Abitbol below, that she recorded a very raw version of "Anyone" shortly before her last overdose. The producers asked her if she wanted to add to the original, but she said that the raw version was more true to how desperate she was feeling at the time. There are many versions of the events, no doubt. "Anyone" is most definately a very loud cry for help. 😊✌ Recommendation : a more anthemic, fighting Demi in "Warrior" please? It's a great song. Very powerful.
This was before her overdose. Anyone was after. She's got rid of a lot of toxic people from her life and she seems to be in a better place now.
actually anyone was written 4 days before her overdose. it just got releasede after
That fan moment always gets me too. And you can tell she feels it because her voice cracks after it.
