I love that you guys point out, that this song isn't necessarily only about addiction.
I have an anxiety disorder and depression for 12 years now and I feel those lyrics on so many levels.
When I first heard the line "sometimes I just wanna cave and I don't wanna fight, I try and I try and I try and I try and I try" I burst out in tears and I think every person - with our without an addiction, mental illness, .. - knows that feeling!

This song broke me. Then I watched her documentary, I cried hard. Then that exact night, I went through the news and heard what happened to her and I wanted to cry more. I am so glad she is getting better now, let's hope it's for a very very long time.

I think that because so many of Demi's fans are a "younger" group that it is so important to let these kids know that it is OKAY to be open and I hope through Demi they see there is ALWAYS another option. Addiction is a life long struggle. I was addicted to benzos and pain killers and it hurts everyone thats close to u and it destroys some relationships. Im glad she put this song out cause a lot of people have no clue what your mind and body go through. It took me overdosing to get help. So kuddos to her for being strong enough to make this public.

what really got me, especially your comment about not experiencing addiction, is that so so so many people have a family member or friend who is an addict or is a recovering addict. it's really astounding how many people this could possibly touch and i'm genuinely so proud of her for being so open and vulnerable about such a HUGE topic going on in the world today. and i've watched that video 10000 times now it seems, and it still hits me how chaotic it is--the flashes of picture and video at the beginning, the graininess of the lyrics. like addiction, it's all chaos and shakiness and it's hard to describe it but damn is it a good cinematography choice.
Oh wow! I love this song and this reaction, but Roman just made the link in my head between this song and Hunger by Florence & the Machine. 'At least I understood then the hunger I felt, and I didn't have to call it loneliness'. Interestingly, Florence is recovering from addiction too. I find both songs so fucking affecting. I cry.
Not just young girls and women. Men too. That comment was a bit sexist but whatever. She had a relapse recently but that’s fine cause we are all human. And that’s why she is such a role model for everyone because she’s this honest.

sbdul 1234 yeah and I don’t think demi fits the “pop diva” category. Her songs are very soulful, not pop at all. She has like 3 pop songs. (That’s what I love the most about her, im not really a pop fan)
