I watched another interview where Maye Musk clearly stated that in the Musk family there wasn't tons of money. She was a single mom who raised her 3 kids and they lived on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and soup for a lot of that time. The parents need to be the ones to push their genius kids out of the basement no matter what their money level is. Maye did.

I liked where she mentions that many genious kids just stay in the basement as they don't get the opportunity or chance or opening to move ahead. That's real humility people, she is acknowledging that Elon is not the only one and Elon became Elon because he got the right opportunities on top of being a genius, but there are many other genius kids who aren't that lucky.

the right 'opportunity' for elon was the right psychological environment, both good and bad. geniuses are human, sometimes they dont realize their full potential because they have personal obstacles that hold them back. can be mental, physical, social, anything really. on the other hand, if elon inherited half of this woman's energy, than he certainly started out ahead.

Maye. You're one of the best looking 71 year old persons I've ever seen. You're full of energy, wit, and vigor.
Maye is such an amazing woman and so humble. I spent half a day with her while filming for Christian Siriano and didn’t realize who she was because she was just so nice to everyone and worked with the rest of the models. It was afterwards I wanted to kick myself for not asking about filming her sons spaceship! ha

I went to a school in England with a South African kid who left at 2. At 11 he still had a deep, baritone South African accent. The accent must have a lot of stickiness.

She still has a South African accent. Even though she doesn't stay in South Africa anymore and was born in Canada.
She went to SA as a two year old and stayed until her forties or so, so half of her life. It is difficult to change speech patterns at that age, hence the SA accent after all this time in Canada and the US. Interesting lady. I think I’ll buy her book.

Elan's brother, sister and his mom Maye all have their mouths gaping open so wide, it's bizarre. It's scary; imagine being surrounded by them. I've seen one picture of the father. He looks crazy. Growing up in that environment! Sheesh! Always afraid you're gonna be eaten!

She´s wonderful! She is incredibly humble just like Elon. Definitely a one in a million type of family, I don´t know much about her other children but I hope they are just as nice.
She is South African 100% - her voice and ACCENT is the give away for those who know the South African vibe - SUPER MUM EY ELON.
@USA USA He kinda does, he has a mix of British and American accents which is quite typical in South Africa where the education system teaches British English in schools while we mostly hear American English on television. I'm a South African myself and the first time I heard about Elon Musk was on a Simpsons episode. When I heard his voice I immediately googled to see if he is from South Africa because I picked it up from his accent.

I let my youngest son just before 2 still on nappies and soooo happy learn at an old school computer we had. He did mazes and puzzles and he was not in trouble for mistakes. As an adult he had it tough till he started IT for a living and now he is a wanted man as he puts in the extra mile. So proud of him🥰

Very insightful, I always wonder about the parenting of people with great knowledge & power; how did they discipline , how did they teach, etc. It's funny she said Elon was 3 when she noticed he was different, my child is 3 and she is much different than those in her preschool... she speaks so eloquently and can figure things out, I truly believe she is gifted. I really enjoy listening to the mom's of great people, such as Maye, she is lovely as well!
I've noticed how new parents are raising and caring for their children. Educated ,enlighten parents raising intelligent and compassionate children. There's so much more exposure now than when I was raising mine back in the day. So many advantages now 😊
Just try to give her as much opportunity for creativity and enrichment (mental and physical) as you can. If she gets to pre-school and she is way ahead of her peers, have her assessed. She may need an enriched program (formerly known as “Gifted”, but all kids are gifted, in different ways). I heard an interview with Elon Musk a while ago. He said his childhood (I think he was talking about adolescence) was miserable a lot of the time - his brain was SO busy, so advanced that he tried to hide it because he thought people would think he was insane if he let them know, and he questioned if he was “crazy”. He almost sounds like he’s on the Asperger’s continuum- somewhat awkward socially, but a savant in many areas. Love his Mum - she is, what my late parents would describe as “quite the gal.”. 😀

Maye Musk is a very unique charming woman. She has taught her children well and she is so fortunate that they listened because some do not. She presents herself as a natural nice human being.

I hv a different view..regardless of how good or how disturbed the childhood was, one could still be very successful in life provided the person is persistent and has positive outlook. Nothing beats inner self motivation.
I would say that healing is sometimes required, so that those who are traumatized don't blame themselves for not being motivated.
Well his father physically abused his mother. Elon said he created his first company because he was too shy to ask anyone for a job. It literally could be why he still stutters sometimes. There are consequences to what happens in your childhood(because they're your formative years) but you can still be successful and get therapy for any emotional or attachment problems you may have
Yes, but being persistent and having a positive outlook do not usually come easily for those from troubled childhoods.
