They need to fire these outdated-minded designers, revamp the line, add articulation, stop with the pixels and rough nylon hair.. AND FINALLY stop giving ALL Curvy dolls THE worst clothes. Also, flats. Everywhere. We need cute Barbie heels again, cause these ugly shoes don't go with anything most of the time. What a waste of resources. Gotta say, the brunette Ken, the doll with the braids and the one with the headband are my favorites. Seriously adorable. The girl with the hearing aid is lovely too. I just wish the beautiful Curvy doll had a better pose, heels and a nice dress. +The Chelseas are adorably dressed!
It really is nuts how outdated the designs have become. Imagine if a doll company had still been releasing fashions from the seventies in 1990. Even the dollar store doll brands used to keep up with trends, though they used the same shoes forever.
LITERALLY! Is Mattel message is that people who aren't brunette/blue eyed can't be fabulous and glamours?🙄 All these clothes designs look so outdated even if they haven't even come out.
I miss the old fashionistas. The ones where their names were based off the style they had like sporty, girly, cutie, glam, etc. Those were my fav as a kid and I remember them being pretty great quality too
The fashionistas could definitely use a design update. Even just different patterns on many of these would greatly improve the looks. I think that checkered dark pink dress could look good if it has a few things added to it like a waist cinched belt and maybe a cardigan. I totally get why many people dislike the simplistic, loose cuts to the fashionista clothes, but there are some practical aspects to them that I personally like. One is that I think there is value in trying to make a lot of the clothes work on all the dolls despite offering different body sizes, and this also makes it easier for me to cross over to use them on a variety of other doll lines. The loose fit is also more play friendly for young kids, which is one reason why I don’t think comparing a play line Barbie to a play line OMG or Rainbow high is quite fair. Barbie is more suitable for younger kids who wouldn’t do well with the intricate and difficult fashions and removable hands needed to dress dolls aimed at tweens, teens, and adult collectors. 🤷♀️ But if we’re talking collector Barbie dolls aimed at an older audience? Yes, I will absolutely judge and compare them to what collector dolls in other lines bring to the table at that price point. 😂
I don't things toddlers and kids as young should play with barbie , I think the dolls for example the arms and the articulations could be potentially dangerous for these kids regardless of designs , I think barbie is more suited for 7+ year olds, that's why there's especial toddler toys
I'm just a middle aged mom that collects dolls because I think they are cute. Anyway, I watch your videos while I'm falling asleep, and I love how soft spoken yet sassy you are lol. Love your videos.
Whenever I fall asleep while watching Joey’s videos, I always dream about going doll shopping. The only bad thing about that is that unless I dream about buying a doll I already have, I don’t get to keep them 😂
@@siphiliselwemakhanya2937honestly,I might get her and put her head on a made to move body so I can make a Dolores doll. I don't understand why Disney keeps giving us Isabella dolls even though she seems to be one of the least popular characters in the cast.
I'm totally getting the curvy girl with braids, the Ariana with the hearing aids, the pink hair girl with the prosthetic leg, and the Ken with the lightning bolt hoodie.
I remember there was a Barbie: Fashionistas modeling shoot game on the Barbie website. Girly was always my favorite because I felt like we had a similar personality.
I'm basically a baby in the barbie/fashion doll hobby, but I saw the fashionistas line more of a "easy access" toy for kids of any background. I mean, when I was even questioning if I wanted to start this hobby, I got a fashionista first (#170 to be exact) because she was cheap and a good first step. and she is still my favorite doll, simply because she was my first. These dolls cost less than 10 dollars, and are very diverse, making them perfect for anyone (especially kids) looking to get their first doll that best fits their wants and desires. I was very impressed with Mattel still having such inexpensive introductory dolls. Also, the sipper bags are great to collect a few clothes, accessories, etc. As far as display or collectibles dolls, they're not great. But I think they serve their purpose. anyway, as a baby in the hobby, that was my thoughts (which I'm sure a skilled collector like yourself already totally knows). I love the pattern on the first dress for sure. And the hearing aid doll is awesome.
I definitely love the curvy Barbie with braids & "Dolores" Barbie! Curvy's makeup is amazing and thank god Mattel did not give her the gaudy bright pink lip color like they always do for the Black Barbies. But that dress has got to go; I can see it as a tank top but as a dress, nooooo! & Dolores Barbie is just too precious! Headband I wished it was fabric, dress is decent, and heeled feet? YESSSSS!
I absolutely love that he's giving us his real opinions! I also love love love that top though so I feel you haha. It just makes me giggle, and feel like I'm some kind of rebel lol, when other's opinions on fashion don't match mine. I really wish Barbie would give us Twinning outfit sets for us and our dolls, how great would that be?!
When the diversity fashionistas line was first executed in the first 3 years the fashions actually look somewhat realistic. They looked like normal teens. Fashionistas fashions these days are just filled with random prints and the colors are tacky not to mention the mega cheap quality. I dont care if prices go up they seriously need to update this line. At least give them knee and ankle articulation jesus
Oh nooo, I really like the love necklace girl! Including her dress, which isn't as shapeless as it could have been imo. I loooove the Dolores-looking girl too. I also like the Ken with the lightning bolt top, even though I never buy male dolls I could see myself getting him
I love the fashionista line. I hate the clothes, I dislike that they aren’t articulated but no other doll line has the variation of sizes, race, hair, face molds, body types and I love that aspect more than anything else. Plus, it’s reasonably priced.
I like the diversity from the Barbie Fashionistas line BUT I hate the fact that each doll comes with a pair of shoes a floral or patterned mumu and MAYBE an accessory at the end of the day I just wind up dusting off an old carded fashion from the Barbie Fashion Fever line and slapping it on them, at least we had different fabrics and textiles back then ...
Ok so I LOVE this line. I only buy Barbie Fashionistas and have bought every single one since 2015 (I have a massive collection!). I want the line to continue forever. I dislike Ken's with rooted hair, though. I love the petite doll with the orange headband. She's got freckles and I find them adorable. I agree with the prosthetic. I'd love for one to have a prosthetic arm instead. LOVE the hearing aid feature, too!
Ones I’m interested in getting to be on Made to Move bodies are the girl with the hearing aids, the Ken with the skin condition, and the Ken with the rooted hair (he’s going to be Captain Jack Harkness). I’m going to get the ginger haired Chelsea doll.
I played with Suntan Malibu Barbie. The thing I remember hating about that doll even as a kid, was her painted on tan lines. She did dress in very stylish 70s clothes and cool swimsuits
I'm really into the fashionistas for their heads. I swap them onto MTM bodies so that they actually have articulation lol. I'm gonna get the one in the black and purple checkered dress because I think her head is perfect to be a mini me!
I love the female doll with the hair wrap and acid wash dress, she reminds me of Deloris from Encanto, also think the petite male doll with side fringe is very cute and twink like, will probably buy these two.
The braided red hair fashionista is definitely my favorite of the new series. She reminds me of the City Shine collector series made a few years ago. Her outfit looks good, but I kinda wish it was a shiny/sparkly dress similar to what the City Shine dolls had.
my sister was watching along and claimed what was wrong with all the clothing lately, at the exact moment that you started to complain about the same. And you both are totally right .
i want barbie fashionistas to be updated to have mtm bodies and fashion fever level fashions. i want some barbie fashionistas with trousers and layers of clothing and painted details on accessories and shoes.
I always enjoy your videos, and I could not agree with you more about the much needed improvement and refreshing of the Fashionista line. However, they are made for children as young as 3 years young, therefore the lack of makes sense. Thank goodness for the Barbie Extra and Barbie Signature Looks, among other lines with complete articulation, attire and creativity. Mattel deserves commendment for it's commitment of inclusion and diversity.
I have the hearing aid one. She came out a month or two after I got my first pair of hearing aids. I'm on my 30's and felt very self-conscious about getting them so young (average age is 70), but just seeing this doll made me feel surprisingly better. I super appreciate the representation.
I like fashionistas for the heads. Sometimes the fashion works for me sometimes it doesn’t. The head sculpts are really interesting, at the very least.
The high ponytail has a psychotic stare & her dress looks like dollartree stuff. The Burgundy dress is Lamilly. This line is now officially worse than when it started in 2010 or so before the revamp. L Bolt does have rooted hair & you can trim it shorter if you want. That's neat.
Hello - Thanks for the overview. After glancing at my Fashion Fever NRFB collection, the message one gets is that these highly-styled figures can be left just as they are without even removing them from their tubes. The Fashionistas, however, are obviously a step up from the Basic/Gateway line which screams `Dress Me', `Fun to Dress' or `Fashion Play' as they did in the late 80s and early 90s. This is where Mattel is clever, in that they lead both the child ad the adult collector to the fashions section, where we are encouraged to find that special outfit to suit the figure of our choice. Let's play Barbie. Enjoy your collection.
The dolls themselves are great. The clothes on the other hand. To me, it seems that the designers for the Fashionistas line seems to be stuck in 80s & 90s fashion. I don't know why they're currently designing from that era. (the same could be said for actual clothing designers as well) I was there during those eras and the fashions weren't that great. A lot was redesigned styles from the 1920s & 1970s, which was done better in those decades. The designers need to design from current styles, which reflect the current time period, how past Barbies were styled. Because of this, it has made those doll designs classic now, all those years later. 😺🌸
Is it just me or does it look like they're bring back in Barbie's previous face sculpt? Like her face looks a bit softer in the jaw unlike her more boxy one they've used the past few years. Like some of those photos make it look like she has her mid early-mid 2000s face which I hope is the case cause I love that sculpt. Might get one of the new dolls of her if it is.
I like the second one with the hearing aid. I agree she looks 60s inspired. The fashionistas has taken a dump in quality. I liked them articulated with a purse and cute high heels. 💗🎠🏩
Thanks for the review! I got into the Barbie when the Fashionistas line came out. But have fallen out of love them for the same reasons you talked about. I'm really digging the Looks dolls now. Love the fashion and articulation of that line. However, Im thinking I will get a couple of these new Fashionistas you review here. I'm looking at the girl with the 60s inspired flower print dress, and the one with the hair wrap.
When I am creating a Barbie that is OOAK, I like the Barbie Fashionista just because of the look once I re-dress them. Then I put them up in the glass show case posed as a model. When I am just leaving them in their original box, I spend the money on them because they are the real deal. For example- the Toki Doki only made white Toki Doki girls, so I made black Toki Dokis using Barbie Fashionistas. They are beautiful and are standing in my glass show case. The real Toki Doki is in the box sitting on a shelf. The ones I enjoy are the ones in the glass show case. I love to look at them. So, I guess it depends on what you like as a collector. (I enjoy your videos.)
I don’t exactly hate the molded hair on all the Ken dolls, because they usually still look nice and I like the variety it gives us, but I’d be so happy if I could see some more with rooted hair! I’m stoked for the Chelsea dolls having real clothes again! I don’t mind them offering some dolls with molded on clothes because I can see some practical parts of that for parents that want to give really young kids dolls without losing half the set, but not when it’s most of them. I recently started looking into getting old Kelly dolls that have actual outfits and they’re so cute! I’m probably going to want all of these in this line.
I got the brunette with the high pony in the floral dress because she looks the most like me. I did a body swap with the purple top Made to Move and she’s perfect.
I’m pretty sure the 2000s are coming back so I think it works pretty OK obviously we could be going for something a little more extra a little more fashionable like rainbow high For OMG just the more cohesive ones
Now I agree with him with some of the Barbie fashionistas are lacking a little bit in the clothes and in the articulation but one thing y'all have to realize is that these toys are like targeted towards younger audiences so not everything is going to be high quality when it's playline.
Kids of the 80s and 90s still got high quality dolls with amazing fashion. And at least their knees bent. Little kids appreciate these touches too, the Fashionista Barbies of today resemble the dollar store Barbie dolls and are practically a throwaway toy.
@@toykeyper8914 I completely 100% agree with you they do need to do better with their quality but like I feel like Barbie is starting to go for like the sixth year olds or something like that ages to 76 in my opinion because there should be no reason why we keep getting printed on tops and no articulation
I really like the dress on the first doll. I also love the diversity and inclusiveness, such as the hearing aid, prosthetic limb, and different body types! The dolls themselves are quite nice, but a lot of the looks just don't appeal to me. ^^;
The original Barbie fashionistas were some of my favourite dolls as a kid it’s so sad that the quality is much lower now. If they started making those again but included the diversity of todays dolls, I would absolutely buy them.
Agree with a lot of your observations, although we should remember that these are the least expensive Barbies at $8 or so, largely made for kids (and in that light, their incredible diversity and inclusion is even more wonderful). Having said that, I actually like this series, and will probably buy hearing aid girl, the curvy one with the braids and "Love" dress (which I kinda like, heh), and the cute one with the head wrap, plus rooted hair Ken and vitiligo Ken.
I couldn't agree more. The styles and clothing we get with Fashionistas is just because of the limited price point. Can't have fancy clothing and only charge $8 for them.
My daughter is getting close to being old enough to excited interest in dolls and pretend play. I really hope that they start giving them articulation again. I'm thrilled about the diversity in the line, though. I played with Barbie dolls until I was 13, and I had very few dolls that weren't white and blonde. My mom would buy me the celebrity dolls (like Brandy) so I had more dolls than Barbie and Theresa
Came her after watching the new Rainbow High dolls coming soon. Definitely can see a difference. I would love all Barbies to have articulation and want different Ken dolls. We need some with facial hair.
I love the Barbie signature looks line but trying to find them is like trying to find a Klans man in blizzard!! There is one Ive been trying to find for months no one has it they just ran out they dont know if/when there going to get more ...and yes Ive gone to the Barbie and Matel sites. Nada There so damn exspensive thou. Im going to show my age, but I remember when Barbie only cost $5/6... aaahh those were the days. Another aside. When Barbie first came out in the 50s the cloths were made sooooo much better. If Ken had a suit it came with shoes AND socks. The ties werent sewn on. The pockets actually opened as well as the purses. They came with under garments. Now if you can find them, you have to buy them seperatly! This is suppose to be a fun hobby like legos I aint trying to put somebodys kid through college!
These dolls are ok, I think most people re-body them anyway now days but it would be nice to have a refresh, maybe the same quality as the extra dolls but with high Street fashion thats on trend instead of the extra looks. If that makes sense. I agree about the longer hair too!! I wish they would give more Barbie's longer hair!! There's 3 new totally hair Barbie's coming in may so I'm looking forward to that at least 😂
They need to fire these outdated-minded designers, revamp the line, add articulation, stop with the pixels and rough nylon hair.. AND FINALLY stop giving ALL Curvy dolls THE worst clothes.

Just in time to watch while making breakfast 🤩
The doll with the purple dress made me think it was a fresh doll.
They're cute, but... No way! I looove a basic Barbie, that's it ✌️💕
🤣🤣🤣 @ 3:09 "Ok... This is bad." Made me do a spit take! Hahahaha!
Hahaha 😂 that’s funny
I really like the thunder bolt pink top on that ken 😆
I got the brunette with the high pony in the floral dress because she looks the most like me. I did a body swap with the purple top Made to Move and she’s perfect.
The merlot braid dark skinned Barbie is gorgeous in person. Though yes.. I had to redress her very quickly.
I’m pretty sure the 2000s are coming back so I think it works pretty OK obviously we could be going for something a little more extra a little more fashionable like rainbow high For OMG just the more cohesive ones
I would buy the doll with braids and change her outfit.
I love the second doll.
Some of these are actually pretty cute I just wish they had some articulation
I really like the dress on the first doll. I also love the diversity and inclusiveness, such as the hearing aid, prosthetic limb, and different body types! The dolls themselves are quite nice, but a lot of the looks just don't appeal to me. ^^;
When are they coming out? Do you know the fashionista number for the rooted hair Ken?
I have the Ken on 7:45 mark of the video I’ve misplaced him but I do love him no idea why
The rooted hair ken fashionista reminds me a bit of Uthred from The Last Kingdom
I love Barbie fashionistas
The original Barbie fashionistas were some of my favourite dolls as a kid it’s so sad that the quality is much lower now. If they started making those again but included the diversity of todays dolls, I would absolutely buy them.
I have bought that vitiligo Malibu tank Ken, because he's quite handsome.
I feel like his sweater is kind of 90’s, so I kind of like it 😊
Agree with a lot of your observations, although we should remember that these are the least expensive Barbies at $8 or so, largely made for kids (and in that light, their incredible diversity and inclusion is even more wonderful).
A lot of them have pretty faces and hair
My daughter is getting close to being old enough to excited interest in dolls and pretend play. I really hope that they start giving them articulation again. I'm thrilled about the diversity in the line, though. I played with Barbie dolls until I was 13, and I had very few dolls that weren't white and blonde. My mom would buy me the celebrity dolls (like Brandy) so I had more dolls than Barbie and Theresa
Didn't you know that there was a Christie doll?
Hi I am Puerto Rican doll Barbie Collector I like your opinions and I agree all you said about fashionista Barbie Doll
Came her after watching the new Rainbow High dolls coming soon. Definitely can see a difference. I would love all Barbies to have articulation and want different Ken dolls. We need some with facial hair.
Where is the best place to look for new lines of Barbie or up and coming realises please?
I live for the, “hate it!” 😂
These dolls are ok, I think most people re-body them anyway now days but it would be nice to have a refresh, maybe the same quality as the extra dolls but with high Street fashion thats on trend instead of the extra looks. If that makes sense. I agree about the longer hair too!! I wish they would give more Barbie's longer hair!! There's 3 new totally hair Barbie's coming in may so I'm looking forward to that at least 😂
we'll be getting a Na Na Na camping set soon, with a tent! so cute :)
