Eden Hazard was of the huge reasons Chelsea was competitive after Diego Costa left, I sincerely thought he was gonna light La Liga alight for at least a couple of seasons before winding down. It's a shame how RAPIDLY he fell off and wasn't his game-changing self. Seeing all the photos of him in a Chelsea shirt again after all the struggling to score the club has gone through only cements just how elite he was for us. His solo goal where he dribbled through Arsenals entire team during our title winning Conte season exists rent-free in my mind.

I never really watched Hazard at Chelsea so I never really understood why Chelsea fans would say he was on the same level as Neymar, or even better. But I guess I was too spoilt by having him around to bail us in a game and presumed -'yeah we will get someone else to do that'- how wrong was I. The issue with football today is that it has become so heavily statistics based. It's basically Opta football. Take the Premier League for example, the league is bereft of any true flare players, most PL players today are incredibly boring to watch as individuals because they don't do much else besides run, pass, cross and shoot. Just the basics. Gone are the days when we saw the likes of Henry glide past 3-4 players or a young CR7 play with tricks and flicks. Players today are coached to play like machines in the name of efficiency and that comes at the expense of them being fun to watch. It's sad that we might never again see players like R9, Zidane, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Neymar,, Hazard, players who played with a swagger and kept fans at the edge of their seat whenever they touched the ball. Most of these players with the exception of Neymar and R9 did not score a lot of goals, Ronaldinho had less than 20 league goals in the season when he won the Ballon D'or but that was an era where players were rewarded for impact plus something special. Everybody these days wants to hit Messi-Ronaldo numbers forgetting that those two are rare cases that will NEVER be emulated.

Eden Hazard was the closest thing we could have to seeing Messi in the Premier League. He was truly magical and joy. He was my hero as a Chelsea fan and he gave me joy throughout my childhood and teen years.
