  • Ken Ham and his team have a bi-weekly "news" show, reacting to the news stories of the day from a Christian young-earth creation perspective from the Answers in Genesis staff at his Creation Museum.
Noel Plum and I join Ken Ham, Dr. Georgia Purdom, and Bodie Hodge as they discuss parents angered after Planned Parenthood partner leads "graphic" sex-ed lesson in science class, Arizona’s schools chief seeks limits on teaching evolution, and more in this episode of Answers News hosted in front of a live audience at the Creation Museum.

I was 'homeschooled' by a mother who took me out of 1st grade because one of the books we read had a fortune teller ("witchcraft") in it. She was/is obsessed with the Rapture, made Bible school at least half the day's time, and when I had a hard time with math, she pushed harder & harder & punished me until I was having panic attacks every day. She even threatened to call the cops once when I was too sick to get out of bed!
It's good to know I'm now vastly more educated than she ever will be, because I've spent 5yrs on my atheist/secular education...

Bernice Panders - sorry to hear your insane upbringing. I wasn't forced in religion but had father / mother / stepfather that threatened jail or juvenile hall for not being like they demanded!!! All 3 died recently and I know that they can never affect or interfere with me again. They all 3 had me jailed over the years for lies and as a juvenile, back then, parents could do anything they wanted cuz there wasn't real child abuse laws unless you were boiled in oil.
When you wrote that ur mom threatened to call police I got sick inside and it's many decades since they had the power ... step father was a cop. They successfully put me in juvy 3 times as minor. Father got me arrested for a lie of being served a restraining order ... then came to court with the evidence of a torn up copy that was a xerox copy, and not in chain of command, the judge ordered the courtroom emptied and promised that he would personally see that my father was charged with falsifying evidence. Somehow that judge was over ruled even when my fingerprints were not on his evidense, but the case was thrown out eventually. We barely spoke for the last 20+ years of his life. I have no criminal record except what my parents tried as juvenile.

Bernice, I'm sorry to hear about your childhood... I truly understand exactly what you are talking about... Except my family entered the cult before my schooling began.
Initially, I was in the cults school but by grade 4, the school & I mutually agreed that I never darken their doors again. I snapped 1 day during religious class, became an atheist & started screaming/cursing all things God.
Then my parents tried to home school us but it was all kind of f'ed up. Eventually they tried all the other Christian schools within reach but those schools hated me even more (sadly I was not even the most hated at all the schools, I'll never forget the kid who got pregnant & was forced to personally apologize to everyone in the school {sic} or the poor kids of color) then the 1st school...
Then they tried home schooling again before the school board finally stepped in & demanded I be enrolled in real school but by then so much damage had already been done. I was still an atheist, the family /cult was still convinced I was possessed & continuing to exorcize their imaginary demons (pesky demons never went) away:) from me...
I already cultured the habit of running away & hiding from their crazier episodes when I got wind they were getting ready to kidnap me & take me over international borders to a cult re-education center in whatever nation... So I took off & never stopped running until they could no longer control the adult me.
These people need to be stopped! I don't really care what they whine about, kids have an innate human right to be properly educated, so as to be successful in their futures. Parents however do not have the right or authority to abdicate, harm or allow anything to interfere with the kids rights. Indeed 1 of the parents /guardian jobs is to protect & enforce the kids rights.
Alright, if someone wants to home school or privately educated their kids, fine; BUT, all schools must meet the common standards & requirements that apply to all schools. Also, stop all tax credits for alternative schools not required for legit needs & condense all school streams into a single public school system for all. Require all older students to attend religious education classes that educate them about all relevant religious stuff, just like in science you teach all the relevant science stuff. Parents are welcome to provide any additional educational resources in whatever areas they see fit but that is outside of the public school system.
We simply can't afford to have a fragmented & duplicated school system; we are just failing all the kids. Realistically, I could have been an indisputable genius but because of the damage that religion did to me, I'm a pale specter of what I might have been.
How can any trust them to educate any kids when they state they are intractably opposed to basic free or critical thinking & seek only to indoctrinate everyone into returning to the dark ages? Or for that matter to operate hospitals but then not allow a patient to get the appropriate treatment their doctors have prescribed for them?
Screw that, if your religious views prevent you from fully doing the job, then you should not be taking said job. Like I'm disabled, as much as I want to work, any employer would never be able to get a reasonable job performance from me, so it's unfair for me to accept the job offer. Just as I enjoy the freedom of driving & public transit sucks, I still don't drive because my health makes it unsafe to do so.
I'm sick of entitled people who think they have the right to do whatever they want, no matter who's face they are punching or lives they are destroying.
Sorry for the rant, I had a rough day with nut cases, especially the religious ones... I hope you have found your place in the world & you have not let them continue to squat in your head. Best of luck on your path.

Parents don't have a "right" to teach their children about sex, they have a "responsibility" about sex (among other things). Part of the reason behind the rise of SexEd in public schools is most parents weren't talking to their children about it. I know mine didn't.

When people talk about "parental rights" in the concept of education, they really mean "parental exclusive rights." The only way to make sure the parents alone have the right to educate their children is to make sure the children don't pick up any education elsewhere.

The best part about the "gay cake" ruling, is that recently, the same jackass who was chastising that council for their hostility towards the baker's religion couldn't seem to detect any hostility in the motives behind the Muslim travel ban. It's almost like it was just an excuse to pander to their conservative Christian demographic.

I'm very late to the game, but based on the bible, it would still be god-given, in so far as it was all god's plan to have adam eat the apple. Otherwise, why would he tell adam and eve to "be fruitful and multiply" when there is no concept of death? If they had no sense of right or wrong, how would they know that eating the apple was wrong? Actually, darkmatter2525 had a great video about it from like 7 years ago.
One of my favorite arguments against the bible itself is that, if an all-knowing and all-powerful god wanted people to do as he wanted, he shouldn't leave his words up to interpretation. Why would he let the bible be in any language other than the universal one from before the tower of babel so people could never misinterpret it. The commandment telling people not to kill is ambiguous; don't kill anything ever? We kill to eat, even if it's plants. Don't kill humans? Wars and self defense are off the table, then there's indirect killing like knowing that your actions could kill someone down the line. Don't kill in anger or for personal gain? Well, cold blooded killers that kill for the sake of killing rather than to get something would be a-ok.

@@catelynh1020 yes, much of what you say is true.
But the point I was making is not that the "moral compass" didn't come from a god, I wasn't saying that it didn't...
I was saying that he didn't "give" it to us. We only "received" it because we broke the rules. But our act of breaking the rules was a set up anyway... a court of law would rule the apple story "entrapment", like when the cop sells you drugs then arrests you for the drugs he sold you.
Besides which, a deeper question to ask is, "Was eating the apple part of the divine plan?"
If his original "plan" was that we would sin and thereby bring about all the rest of it (sacrifices, exoduses, genocides, the life and sacrifice of Christ and all the rest) then again, it's "entrapment"... we had no choice because he's god and he's "all powerful" and "all knowing" (therefore, "all responsible" too)
On the other hand, if "original sin" wasn't part of the original "divine plan" then two people, who were basically nothing more than newborns, children with no understanding, somehow these "children" managed to mess up the "divine plan" of an all powerful, all knowing being... which doesn't say much for his plan, or his power or knowledge...
Basically, as I have often said in the past, the Bible is a plot hole, wrapped in bigotry and misogyny, and decorated with fairly tales.

You're right at that. I fully believe you. Having had good relationships, I always saw the bible for the abuse it really was and hated it for that. Entrapment was 100% part of the plan. It shouldn't take unconditional love and support for someone to see the gaslighting, entrapment, testing, and straight up abuse that the bible says is good.

I am so glad to see your take on reproductive health. I'm a healthcare professional who has worked in adolescent reproductive health for years all over the world. The ironic thing I have noticed is that my approach has never & will likely ever change while religious institutions who claim their stances never change because that's the way it has always been seem to be changing all the time just to keep up with societal norms as they see their attendance numbers dwindle. The claim that God's word is never changing may be true, but man's interpretation & application do, & quite regularly I might add, in itself should be a red flag for believers. As always, thanks for yet another in depth video explaining where Ken & his band of "hamsters" do their best to sell their wares to very unsuspecting folks...

Explained how condoms and contraception work, and made sure we be sure a partner is ready before moving forward. They knew when we were ready, we’d have sex and there was no stopping it so they didn’t ask us to be abstinent they just gave us the tools to be responsible and safe. Same with drinking, they knew if we decided to drink one night we would and so the rule was if you do, call us to pick you up, don’t drive home we will come get you at any hour. Teens will be teens parents need to figure that out like mine did.

and I worked for 20 years in the American school system.
I can say that from what I have seen the sex education in our schools is woefully watered downed and inadequate.
It should be taught by a science teacher, in a science class not
Shoved off on a gym teacher that is woefully untrained and inerudite in the science of the human body.
I believe as a parent it is my job to teach and show my children the meaning of respecting oneself and others.
Showing kindness and hopefully showing by example how to show love and respect in a relationship.
The science of the body should be taught in school not left to an often ill equipped parent.

Being forced to make a custom cake that violates your morals or sense of decency is not allowed provided wouldn't make that cake for anyone. The gay wedding on the other hand, you don't have to make them anything you wouldn't sell to anyone else, but you can't just refuse to make a wedding cake period. Which is what he did.

I guess I got very lucky I went to 12 years of catholic school but it was during my last 4 years that were amazing as I was taught by Servite Friars. Anyway in my 9th year of schooling I this was my first lesson I learned in religion class; the teacher stood in front of the class and said "Remember what we taught you for 8 years", He paused dramatically then said "We lied!" And that was the begging of my serious religious studies. Then in Biology class is where I learned the creation story and this it what the teacher said right before we dove into evolution, "I have to teach this so God created everything it will be on the test" That was it.
Although it took me a bit to walk to finally admit that all gods presented to me could not exist because I wanted to believe so bad. I am now content with my decision although the urge to pray is still so strong when things are going bad. Thanks for the videos

At least in my experience, any parent who wanted to, could request their child forego sex education in our local school district. Some did, and thats their perogative. For the vast majority, having competent professionals teaching with up to date information is a godsend.(Yes, that was an attempt at humor.)
And my father, a recovering Catholic, told me many years ago, that he had no desire to teach me or my siblings about sex. His humorous observations about getting taught about sex education by the nuns in his childhood kept us rolling with laughter.

I like being pleasantly surprised when a notification pops up and it's your video. It's hard to make a list because of different topics being covered by AIG but you've definitely had the right folks come on and discuss the topics AIG was reporting on... Maybe Steve McRae on a future show when AIG is butchering science news. Honestly, in the end, it doesn't really matter who you have on as long as you go after them and correct their misrepresentation of science with facts so people who are interested in fact checking them can hopefully find your channel and get the opposing views supported with evidence.
Thanks again for everything you do and please forgive me if the above is hard to follow, I'm driving (a semi, I know I know) so I'll type a word and drive a few miles and then type another word... Sorry but it just couldn't wait until I stop, in about 7 hours.

The problem with trying to counter any hovind's attempt of an argument of "Where you there" by throwing the argument right back at them for the bible is, that they will tell you that the bible is the testinomy of an eyewitnes. And that eyewitnes is god. And they will not accept that the bible was written by ordinary fallible humans, but by fallible humans inspired by god so that they didn't make a single mistake. And they'll talk about the deadsea scrolls and how accurate they are and generally duck and dance until you die from frustration. And as soon as you quit they will claim to have won the argument.

I liked what Noel Plum had to say about Ham & AiG. I always value Noel's opinions, not that sometimes I don't think he is wrong. When I do think Noel is wrong about something, it is because I think that he is thinking about it wrong, not because he did not think about it enough. So, even when we disagree, I see value in his opinion. It is much the same with Paulogia, though I have less notable points of divergent opinions with Paul.

The part from 22:28 to 22:52 was breathtaking, it was very well explained and pretty much covers why "The Bible says so" mantra is just plain wrong, most people using that statement just want the quick, emotional, upper hand in a discussion and/or debate instead of investigating the issue. I mean, there are debates even in the literalist, fundamental, evangelical side of Christendom that debate the actions of Rahab and the two spies. I appreciate that bit as a person who likes philosophy, including ethics. Koodos to Mr. Plum on that part.

As a Christian I think kids should be encouraged to wait on sex. Not necisarily till their married or to a specific age but till they find the right person. You only get one first time and I believe it should mean something not just be about getting laid (if you don't it doesn't make you a bad person its life advice not morality). That said I ALSO think kids should be taught accurate information about STDs, pregnanacy and birth control. I want to see the number of teen pregnancies, the number of abortions (yes I think it should be legal) cut down and fewer stds and I'm intelligent enough to know that teaching kids how to properly use a condom (for example) is a far more effective way of accomplishing those goals then preaching at them not to have sex. Every thinking person who wants fewer abotions (and does any one really want women to have abortions? the right absolutely but better to have the right and not need it) should be in favor of educating people properly on birth control and making it available cheaply.

As a gay US lawyer, please allow me to clear up some misconceptions that people have about the Masterpiece Cakes case: the religion of the baker was a key factor in the Colorado commission's decision in a very negative way. The Court found that this was inappropriate and the decision should have been religiously neutral. I actually agree with the Court, it was obvious that the commission was not handling this case neutrally with respect to religion and it would have been no effort at all for the commission to decide the case without the reference to religion. The ruling in this case applies only to the parties in the case and shouldn't change anything about enforcement of anti-discrimination law at all. That said, the fact that Justice Kennedy (the author of the opinion that ruled for gay marriage) resigned today combined with the oddly high deference to religion in the opinion bodes very ill for future cases. Stay tuned 🤔

Whether its the idolisation of their "founders", the "we saved Europe's Ass in WWII" or the inability to comprehend that the UK is not called England and Scotland is not a separate country or not using the metric system, the whole US school curriculum seems broken and in bits. One reason to give sex-ed in school is that some parents are not good at it. What I got from my parents was virtually non-existent and, frankly, pretty awful.
On the other hand, we had a biology teacher who went out on a limb and taught us which forms of contraception were reliable and which weren't.
This was all roughly at the time the aids epidemic started so some good information was definitely needed.

I know this is an old video, but as far as I understand the laws here in the U.S.; as far as the "legal perspective" I've heard from lawyers discussing the matter, there is no "grey area" on this. You must fall on the side of either discrimination or anti-discrimination. It is a binary prospect, on or off. Obviously the only correct answer is anti-discrimination. Otherwise, you open the door to any kind of discrimination. You can't "flip the switch" to discrimination on and then start trying to be selective in the discrimination you allow. Allowing any of it means allowing all of it.

I was born on the wrong side of the 49th parallel. It's too bad that Canada can't accept "emotional refugees" from the US. I cry several times a day about what is happening here, and I am losing hope for my nation. I'm not exaggerating when I say that if what is happening here south of the 49th paralle keeps up, some of us, many of us, are going to die. Literally, some from pre-existing medical condition we can't pay for. We are going to be worse than Venezuela, and that won't be good for Canada.
I'm one of the few US-ians who has read and studied a bit about Canadian history. Canada has had some of the same problems we have, particularly in relationships with First Nations (Native Americans here). But there is something so far more humane about Canada. I'd live in Nunavut if it was politically and socially safer than Minnesota.

Sex ed has to happen when someone asks "Why does Tomos Cockerel always want piggy back rides on the chickens?" or

Sex ed is late and overdue when youngsters ask "Do you eat babies?/Why are you so fat?"

Creationists USED to consider speciation proof of evolution, but, since we can point to many such observed events they have, in true creationist style, moved the goal posts. Now most want a definite change from one family to another. Something that is very tricky to provide as the lines get really blurry about when something suddenly belongs in a different family. IT does not seem to happen that way.
