- UFC legend Tank Abbott breaks down his tumultuous past with Tito Ortiz and explains why he thinks Don Frye has an easy road to their final at the 96 Ultimate Ultimate.
Don’t miss Tank’s trip to Titan Towers and why he went with WCW. He goes into detail about his time in WCW and why he didn’t continue with wrestling.
IN THIS CORNER debuts new episodes every Friday on Mediacom MC22 and every Saturday on RUclips!
Tank Abbott does not speak like a guy that has taken countless strikes to his head and suffered six strokes that is why he is Tank Abbott.
*Who would've guessed Tank Abbott would end up as one of the most clear minded of the MMA legends?*
@@1nvisible1 Haha. Say that back in the day and you'd be crazy. . . but yup.
He also college educated....degree in History, I think (not great, but ok).
@@SandaBoxing Haha, cool though. He seems like a dude who always did what he wanted, or something that interested him. I bet he'd be great to talk to. . . and he seems like much less of a dick these days, so that doesn't hurt either ;)
@@SandaBoxing what does not great but ok mean? A history minded person doesn’t necessarily equate to a wise person, but a wise person will be historically literate.
He looks pretty good for a guy who’s just had most of his organs swapped out. Stay strong, bro!
Tank sounds really good here. Very awake and quick. This seems to be the most together Tank I've seen in decades.
I met Tank at UFC 12 in Dothan Alabama. We were front row behind the commentors. He was super cool. There was no alcohol allowed, but Tank had a small bottle of vodka in his leather jacket that he was mixing with gatoraid. He spoke to us for a minute. Super cool dude.Glad he is doing better.
I remember early ufc, when tank tried to throw a guy out of the cage 😂
RIP Cal Worshim his opponent that prompted the rule change of not being allowed to remove an opponent from the octagon

When talking to a stroke about his life he explained hed had 6 Tank Abbotts.
I remeber back in the day when MMA was illegal so the only place we can have matches were in the Indian Reservation, we would all hang out in the casion after the fights. My team included coach Larry Landless, Herb Dean, Charlie Valencia, Mike Baige, Michael Voltz, and the other guys and my son at the time Benny Sartuche-Vazquez at that time I was the only female in the team. King of the Cage ran the show
Very lucky to be part of history and experience it first hand

David tank abbott what a legend !!!!,reason why I watched ufc/Mma,he’s fights was wild vicious and entertaining, can’t beat the excitement of the old day warriors that started Mma,remember no weight classes no rules basically!!!,shame the ufc don’t respect these old guys help build it,
Tank wearing the Master P Cartier sunglasses is killin me 😂
I always knew Tank had a different kind of swag to em 🔥
Thanks for uploading this video and others, I’m a big fan of Tank and it’s always great to hear his stories.
Our pleasure. He’s a great guy. Love hearing the stories as well!
I did an interview with Tank too, helluva guy. Nice work!
Thanks! Super nice guy. Has so many stories. I feel like we’ve just hit the tip of the iceberg.
Yeah, we see the picture of you and Tank. WE BELIEVE YOU, OK!?
Tank is a genuine guy. much respect. stay in the game my brother.
If Tank had the wind, who knows how far he would've gone. Never boring to watch Tank fight.
Tank is a true legend because he gave true powerful natural brawlers who haven't trained in martial arts or mma a voice in combat sports on a major platform, loved watching him right from the beginning.
10 Wins, 15 Losses
He’s a legendary character, not a legendary fighter.
@Space Jockey he grew up wrestling and spent a lot of time around boxing gyms in So Cal..
@Space Jockey I said legend full stop, regardless of his fighting skills or character he was a legend because up to that point in ufc at ufc 6 his debut how many other true brawlers were there, he was a junior wrestling all american and he took up boxing, but what was he famous for, he was an out and out street fighter he literally just punched f*** out of people there was no finesse or real martial arts background, he turned up brawled and left, and when people talk about the early years of ufc he is remembered along sides the icons Royce Gracie, Dan Severn, Ken Shamrock, Don Frye, Patrick Smith etc so legend however you look at it is legend my friend.
@TheeDrifter yeah but his thing was brawling, no bells or whistles, straight up brawling.
@@spacejockey4746most these loses are after he came back from pro wrestling though, before that he was a pretty formidable big man.
I’ve always liked Tank and the way he carried himself. A true MMA legend.

Tank is like the god father of ufc one of the great fighters who was there in the begining God Bless you and keep you in health
My mom was a great woman worked her whole life. Retired never got in any trouble raised sister and I. And couldn't get a new liver and passed. This guy gets two organs ?
Ya, it's a messed up system. Just like going to college, the people that are accepted, are usually the ones they can get the most money out of.
I hung out with Tank in a bar in HB about 8 years ago. I got wasted with him and smoke some buds. He was great and we talked for hours. A very memorable night. I even almost seen him get in a bar fight.
The story of the checkbook and Tito, and borrowing $500 😳🤭 what a character! We’re all getting old together, thanks for all the great entertainment over the years . Loved the fights you’re a legend
Tito a Mexican that's how they are
Met Tank at Soaring Eagle Casino a number of years ago and he was a real nice guy,,,my best to you tank! :)
The greatest quote in UFC history which at the time perfectly sold the UFC story (at the time)...”he said he liked to laugh so I thought I’d tickle his brain” - David “Tank” Abbott
Really good interview 👍 nice
How did he steal my grandmas glasses?
Your gma gave him a roll for em

Such an honest and intelligent dude. His easy candor tells me he is a righteous man.
Don Frye whooped tank and tank never got over it.
Don Frye is a certified badass.
Stepped on his foot & choked him out. Far from whooped him but he is a badass nonetheless
Tank may have lost the match, but Don took the ass whooping. Go back and look at both their faces after the match. Don is a bloody mess and Tank just looks pissed that he got caught in a submission... again.
It's lame you cut him off during the tito story wtf
I was thinking the same thing and if that was true about tito stealing money from Tank then tito is a pos

Maaaan! MF Tank! I remember his early brawls! All the way to fighting Kimbo! Legends💪
Tank seems like a solid guy. No ego. His earlier rage was against the raw deals he got. I heard countless stories from Huntington Beach locals who said Tank went out of his way to protect them.
dude the man is telling you he's dying and you just wont let off love you tank your a tuff bastard
Tank is a goat, love this guy,he helped build mma , early day warriors were the best. Peace and good luck mr tank
Unfortunately the modern ufc ownership gives two fvcks about ufc legends. They want their name associated with names from boxing like Mike Tyson as well as action movie frauds like Bruce lee. It's sickening really
Great interview. Tank really opened up with you.

Good podcast . I enjoyed hearing from someone from the past. Interesting!
Loved tank so fun to watch
Tanks a lot smarter then people give him credit for.
Super nice guy and definitely has a wealth of stories and knowledge of the sport. Made his mark in a short period of time.
I was very interested in hearing more about the Tito story, but the topic was changed to Don Frye. I could tell Tank was going to say more interesting stuff about Tito. It seems that instead of going with the flow, the list of questions takes priority over the actual stories. Even in the beginning when Tank was talking about his health problems and the round worm, Tank was informed politely that this is an MMA show. There isn't really a deadline on how long these interviews go, so I'm not sure what the rush is there in moving from question to question.
Hey Mr. E,
Unfortunately, when you’re editing for a TV show... you have to move things along, cut them, etc. The good thing is, we have the full audio, a little more of each story, on our audio version which is being released next week in podcast form.
Thanks for watching. We def loved having Tank on and we will do it again.
Cyrus
@@InThisCornerwithCyrusFees Oh I didn't realize it was edited for a TV show, that makes sense then. I was thinking it was just a normal podcast where there isn't time limits, but with TV, I definitely understand why you have to move it along 👍. Thanks for the info and Happy New Year
@@InThisCornerwithCyrusFees I think you didn't wanna make Tito look bad. Some conflict of interest

It's kinda shocking to see Tank has these medical issues, he always seemed so indestructible. He must have really been one heavy drinker. Tank has always been my favorite fighter, people would always bust my balls that he didn't stand a chance against some fighters. I witnessed Mark King take out Abbott in the parking lot after the jerk started a brawl at a spot in HB called "Bentleys". Mark was one of my Black Belt team fighters working as a bouncer that night. I'll never forget that epic upper cut.

But I gotta say, you know all that time he used to joke about drinking Vodka when he got out of bed, to getting peeled off the bar stool and jumping into the cage to fight, and drinking , drinking, drinking...well Tank my man, you are kind of a service announcement to the little kiddies out there - Drinking 5-6 nights a week and getting peeled off of bar stools is't really good for going into old age healthy.
He was an iconic part of that era of MMA... to say the least!
Never a Boring Tank Fight ever, if he only worked on his Cardio wouldve won a Title back in the Day
I love Tank!
Hate to see these legends go through so much physical pain and suffering
This comment section is nothing but triggered emotional responses from ppl who didnt watch Tank fight 😂
His allure was the fact that he *wasn’t* disciplined. The guy was literally just a street brawler who had wrestling skills and he still almost won the belt. He doesn’t put anybody on a pedestal like y’all lmao like he said its business
Tank is legit, anyone trolling this guy, is simply a clashing personality, he would stick up for anyone being pursued in a life threatening situation, my friends and I were in a car going south on goldenwest a dude waved his gun as a scare tactic, and it just so happened that tank was in his truck driving in traffic witnessing this, and when we convinced our driver to pursue the kook with the gun instead of cower, Dave followed us pulled over when we pulled over to pull him out of his car Dave was willing to do the right thing for anyone that is who he is, and where his heart is...and tito is the politician, its pretty easy to see, or maybe its because I know the both of them through very close mutual friends the three of us actuallu grew up with as kids, and you perhaps dont or didnt? Judging anyones life off of a fighting record, or sports stats that are not exceptional or even losing, is foolish
Roger that, couple local legends. From another HB resident.
Pursuing a guy waving a gun is a bad idea.
Abbott wouldnt know the truth if it ko'ed him. Funny, he has "over 200 street fight victories" but his pro record is 10-15. He shouldnt knock boxing, esp when he doesnt have the cardio and wouldnt last 1 round with Mike Tyson if he were 20 and Mike was the age hes at now. Tank loses a wrestling match against Rick Steiner, who was a State Champion, and he says "oh if this was the octagon". He loses in the Octagon and says "Oh, if this was the street", he fights Kimbo, a street fighter and loses in the first round.. Hes badder than the average man, I'll give him that but only that.
he still has his brain in tact
This was a good interview and Tank was one of my favorite fighters to watch but, why is he wearing my grandma's glasses?
Look at those glasses man! I never took Tank to be the swaggy type. Good shit old man
He said this multiple times on air
His voice is very clear
Bro he just fight Jimbo.how the hell u go from dad to grandpa that fast 😭😭😭
Tank was resuscitated and immediately knocked the doctor out for killing him I heard….
, We had a here say training test while in the Academy and a cadet was told a short story and by the time it got back to originally what was said it was different. This is why all State Troopers n police should utilize cameras. The point is it should have never been brought up as here say with Don Frye towards Tank.. You were trying to stir up bad feelings but didn't even have any definitive approach just s little para phrasing what Don said,. Both are aging legends with serious health issues. We all wish for a better relationship between these heroes.
Tank needs to mk things rt with don frye. He needs to tk back what he said about Don throwing fights in pride. Fights were absolutely 100% fixed in pride....not all but most of the bug cards. Don wasn't one that gave in to that. Don was asked if he would ever work things out with tank and Don said basically fuck tank.. lol. Dons still pissed about this. Haha

For some reason I think Tank's story about Tito writing the check out was COMPLETE BULLSHIT because I feel like Tank would of SMASHED Tito for that & definitely wouldnt of kept him on his team & in his corner for as long as he did if this shit was going on SMFH but there had to be somethings that happened for them to dislike each other as much as they do.

Mma fighters always think boxing isn't fighting till they get punched in the mouth 🤦🏾♂️
Boxing is not fighting it’s boxing. Fighting is when you use all of your body
Tommy Morrison would have knocked Tank into next week. He could wrestle well enough to stay up and box. A true heavyweight pro boxer with power like Morrison would have possibly ended Tanks career.
