    Daphne Miller is a family physician in private practice in San Francisco and the author of the sleeper success The Jungle Effect: The Healthiest Diets from Around the World-Why They Work and How to Make Them Work For You, for which she traveled around the globe to find authentic indigenous recipes and traditions that may help preserve health and prevent many Western disease. She is also an associate clinical professor of family medicine at the University of California, San Francisco and a contributing writer for several magazines and newspaper. She writes about the connection between biomedicine, food, farming and the natural world.

    Despite her appreciation for nopales, bilberries, and fermentation, Dr. Miller knows that metabolic syndrome is her "bread and butter," so her wallet compels her to vilify saturated fat (which is obviously a major component of most traditional diets).
