What I love the most about Thou and Emma playing together is that the music they make is sheer anxiety put into sound. Magickal Cost is one of the most unsettling, tense songs I've ever heard.
The best thing for me this year was discovering Emma Ruth Rundle and her LPs, which ultimately led me to this collaboration with Thou. Hearing their album yesterday was indescribable. To summarize, If I had to relive shitty 2020 again to eventually hear their LP collaboration (with mindwipe) I would do it in a heartbeat!
It was the opposite direction for me, Thou led me to ERR and her absolutely stunning music. I bought Engine of Hell when it came out, it never ceases to bring me to tears, just pure sorrow and mourning turned into sound.
I know everyone really focuses on Emma for making this collab as huge as it is (which is true because she clearly wrote so much of this and is a big force behind it) but Tyler isn't getting enough credit for his drumming in Thou. This collab would have been so much less impactful with someone else on the skins. I know he does more shredding on Yautja releases but the stuff here is radical.
Holy shit! I somehow totally missed that Tyler is Thou’s current drummer. His playing with Yautja is just absolutely awe inspiring. What an amazing convergence of two of my favorite bands.
I hadn't given it any consideration before today but just watching the opening three minutes I was like "Fuck! That drummer is the best musician on stage by a way!"
Oh my God this made my day! Every time that guy starts screaming it just makes me laugh I can't take it seriously but I love it! I came here for Emma but stayed for the screaming! Yess
@@tylerperkinson1677 it was great. I had a hard time tracking the lyrics with so much sound going on at once and ERR's voice is so subtle compared to Bryan screaming at you.
@@MrIan515 I'm so happy for you but so jealous. I think Brian and ERR complimented each other well, would have liked it to be a bit heavier on ERR, though.
This is amazing..... correct me if I'm wrong, but this is 90's early 2000's hardcore mixed with what I have come to expect and appreciate from Emma, combined? I love it!!!
If you don't know where a club/venue actually is, just say "Twin Cities". This is in St Paul. Or do you also claim shows in Brooklyn took place in Manhattan?
I agree, but I love that it largely preserved the small venue sound/feel of it. Overly produced music sounds fake to me, and doesn't have the same energy, feel, vibe to it.
@@wujBat 🤷♀️ it's 4 guitars tuned all the way down to G or so. Let there be bass. I liked it on my headphones, kinda felt like being at a concert again. Been missing that since February. So yes, I am serious. Not saying it sounds well balanced and should be pressed on vinyl like that. Just saying that IN MY EARS it sounds alright.
Bruh, how much Thou have you really checked out? Bryan's vocals are legitimately some of the best out there. Full of an amazing amount of dynamics, texture, unreasonable saturation, and aggression, and clarity. But the vocals that Thou writes arent just "vocals" they're very specific instrumental pieces of their own, providing the same function as adding another guitar and usually mastered to fit in the mix appropriately to the album's mood and tone. Also why he's a huge fan of singing along side other vocalists for that really badass duality of tones. He's not singing with them like a duet, he's providing a double track alongside the singer that provides a level of saturation and mimicry that a guitar cant. Check out The fool who thought he was King and Deepest Sun to get a bit of those vibes. Dont think of Thou as a band with drums, and bass, guitarists and vocals. Think of Thou as a formless musical *thing* - things just blend into each other to become this sludge doom drone shoegaze deathmetal indie chic dreamgaze slam wave of fucking heaviness and heresy
SOMEONE REMASTER THIS FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
Killing Floor is one of the most moving songs I've ever heard. Just incredible. I love her delivery changes as well
Totally agree
The middle section of Killing Floor destroys me
Me too, guys......
Emma should be a permanent member of the band. Soo good.
The band should be a permanent member of Emma
Or simply replace the singer, that would be awesome :-)
@@Mabusesato sorry mate, but I don't agree. They have perfect vocal synergy

ERR & THOU is my absolute dream collab. 🔥🖤
A Thou + Emma Ruth Rundle co-headlining tour in 2021 would be a fine way to clear off the karmic suck that was 2020. Just sayin'.
Youre not getting any shows in 2021. Just sayin'.
It needs to be proper sets from both bands with the finale being a performance by both. Fuck that tour would be unstoppable
shes touring with chelsea wolfe!
How can any other musical collaboration ever even hope to compare?? 🖤
emma + jaye jayle
chelsea wolfe would be rad

I'm really digging her voice with this band. They both deliver with this collab
This is the closest thing to the Roadburn set. Thanks a lot for this. I can finally re-live my favourite set of the whole festival.
I can't believe how good it is
This is one of the best live performances I've ever seen, wish they had played The Valley as well though! :/
What an electric combination
Thou opened up with Monolith in Chicago and I’ve been hooked ever since
Fantastic album.
I guess ‘The Valley’ had not yet been written
I don't know if that's a good choice for a bar night though.
That live performance is reserved for when the gates to Valhalla opens up for you.
Que hermoso es escuchar a Emma, la amo!
Thank you
I get to hear some of these tracks on Vinyl today. I am so excited!
Thank you so much for this video!
Thanks a lot for this awesome recording!
The studio album is as good as this performance! Nice!
This is sonically pleasing.
Thanks for posting!

This is pretty standard (albeit very well executed) doom metal, for the most part. Definitely some shoe gaze influence as well
Ain't see a collab this banging since Onyx n Biohazard on the Judgement Night soundtrack yo.
so good
Match made in hell, this absolutely rips
My heart! 💚
The songs are amazing, what happened to the audio?
Yessssss! Muito obrigado!
I want to see Out Of Existence live
I wondered how much ERR played guitar on this album. A lot, it appears. I bet the sound guy loved having 4 guitars and a bass on stage to mix!
The vocalist looks like Goya's Saturn in the thumbnail
I can't understand how Bryan Funck makes those sounds with his throat. Anyone got a tutorial? heh...
Yeah I gotcha
Dude is 41 too!!! He takes care of himself
How did they not play The Valley?
YES
I don’t think it was written yet
Have they ever performed the valley live anywhere??
I like it!
Fucking beautiful
saw thou live in Texas ❤️🔥
did they change the time sig on part of "Killing Floor"?
Beautiful brutality 😍🤘🤘🤘
Are they ever going to hit the road again?
Does err play lead? Or at least on some songs? Shes so amazing

I hope this channel puts this performance out on Bluray or DVD with lossless 5.1 audio mix if possible.
Hey do it better. I'm waiting.
the question is pretty much if the audio quality can actually be fixed
so sick
somebody know what is the tuning in into being? i think is between drop f or drop g not shure
I saw a video where andy gibbs (white guitar) talks about a being in a g# tuning

4 guitars
too bad the sound is not properly mixed
I didn't know Steve Albini was in this band

Hate to be that guy.. but, did the sound guy fall asleep for this gig or what?

For a moment I thought there was a Burzum t-shirt

Telling my kids this was Fleetwood Mac
Sooo sad this mix so bad...

Love Emma. Thou? Not so much... Killing Floor is awesome though.
Solid performance but having 4 guitarists on stage seems a bit excessive
Thou is such a good band but the singer sucks hard. Their best tracks are instrumental. Honestly the monotone screeching adds nothing to the sound
in your opinion
This would be generic doom or post metal without Bryan (which would still be cool) but Thou is a band greater than the sum of its parts.
