Great idea to have a 20 year (or so) requirement. The influence of stories over time is important, and we won’t really know until some time passes. That’s hard in today’s social media climate, and perhaps more generally, but it’s still a good approach. Then again, I’m in my 50s, so maybe that’s just easier to say as we age. 😂
Yes I have a feeling everyone's choices will change as they get older. I guess it's just a natural thing. I mean we should get WISER - right?
I love how you highlighted and chose books that are important to the industry and for some of them, really pushed the medium forward. Nice choices!
Thanks! Glad you liked this!
Great list, Larry. My choices are pretty much the same as yours.
Thanks Deathtone. It really seems like fairly easy choices.
Glad you watched the live stream!
I wish I could have chosen everyone’s 3 choices buy we had to only select 3 each and had criteria to try and meet as far as potential sales and such.
I did enjoy hearing the books others found important during the stream especially since taste, value and importance of a read or book is all subjective in the end.
Now if we are talking importance wise, your list takes the cake for sure! A lot of volume 1s!
Great list overall!
Thanks so much! I'm glad you approve! And I don't pretend to know anything about the business side of things....many of my picks probably wouldn't be great sellers.
@@LarrysLibrary but still very important books none the less!
@@Illuminerdy_ This we agree on!
I just made a pot of coffee and this popped up in my feed! Good timing.
Great list.
@@apilgrim8715 Thanks! Appreciate you watching!
Interesting choices, I like your reasoning, these are far better than those crazy picks the panel voted for. My picks are similar, just more Kirby & Ditko, I'd have Marvel's beginnings made evergreen, how it all began in the silver age, the first stories in omnibus volumes of The Mighty Thor, Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Avengers, Amazing Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, X-Men, Iron Man, Fantastic Four. I'd also have the volumes of Epic Collections that match evergreen omnis made evergreen too, because not everyone wants a hefty hardback.
Reasonable choices! I could vote for this list too!
This is a fantastic list Larry, personally I would have picked the Daredevil companion omni. Such a shame the Phoenix Omni didn’t make the list 😂
Heh...thanks! The DD Companion Omni would totally fit in the 11-20 bracket. And Uncanny Omni v02 has the best Phoenix stories in it....and that would also be in the 11-20.
Good list and you're not going to please everyone with your choices (of course), but I think it is a solid list. Personally, I would replace the Hulk as it contains the least prolific Hulk stories, when compared to other, later Hulk stories. But again, that is just me, as you stated, this is your list and yeah, it is a good one, :)
Thanks. Yeah I know this is sort of a controversial topic .....about as controversial as I am ever likely to get on my channel anyway!
I can cosign your picks Larry! I own them all except USM, need to pick that one up.
Awesome! Thanks
Solid list, Larry
Thanks Branden!
You should do 11-20 honorable mentions.
That would be fun as I had to leave a LOT off!
I enjoyed your list!
Awesome! I'm glad
Great list!
Thanks Brian!
Great vid. I’ve never read the Brubaker Cap (prob spoiled by the movies). I’m hoping there’ll be a modern epic soon. I vote for Romita SM over Ditko, but I understand your logic. Fun fun stuff.
You gotta read the Brubaker Cap run! I also prefer Romita's Spider-Man.....and those volumes would for sure be in the 11-20 of this list!
Good list overall, almost completely agree. Couple changes i would personally make is avengers to that of Kurt Busiek, i think i would take out hulk ( i find his old material hard to read and the next best is peter david which i find vol 1 not the peak/best) and go with Walter Simonson thor. I would then take out original cap and put in infinity gauntlet to have one big event for marvel covered. But thats just this persons opinion. Loved the list and video!
I can understand your reasoning! I really hated leaving Simonson's Thor off. It would absolutely go in 11-20 someplace!
great job!
Thanks Mark!
Thank God you have Captain America by Ed Brubaker on your list. This list actually makes sense, no Phoenix omnibus... Great list!
The Phoenix Omnibus is the Dark Phoenix Saga Omnibus just renamed. which double dips ALOT with Uncanny Vol 2.
Maybe it didn’t deserve to be on the list of 10 but we can’t deny the Dark Phoenix Saga is SUPER important to pop culture, Marvel, and comics in general and deserves to be somewhere on the list or At least in the convo.
If not in the dark Phoenix saga/Phoenix Omnibus then in the form of uncanny vol 2 omnibus.
PS: I was sad cap by Brubaker wasn’t on the list also. We all thought FOR SURE someone was gonna pick it and because of that it wasn’t.
@@Illuminerdy_ For an evergreen list Uncanny volume 2 makes more sense then. It'll also include Days of Future Past, another top X-Men story.
@@williamlee2182 Yeah I totally agree!
BUT the Phoenix Omnibus is what was chosen in someone’s 3 choices and uncanny vol 2 wasn’t in the lineup in anyone’s 3.
So picking that at least gave us the dark Phoenix saga which would have felt weird to leave off the list due to its importance.
The main difficulty was not knowing what other people picked and meeting the criteria of potential sales and interested for sure!
@@Illuminerdy_ I could very easily have put Uncanny v02 on this list and I almost did! I do agree the Dark Phoenix Saga is super important.
@@williamlee2182 Agreed
She this is a awesome evergreen list, great job Larry 💪🏻
Thanks Rodimus!
My list is as follows -
Your list isn't gonna sell well. We aren't all dinosaurs like you =P
Uncanny X-Force - Remender
Superior Spiderman - Slott
Fantastic Four vol. 1 - Hickman
Daredevil vol. 1 - Bendis
Daredevil vol. 1 - Brubaker
Avengers vol. 1 - Hickman
Howard the Duck - Zdarsky (for the comedian)
Immortal Hulk - Ewing
Iron Man (Extremis) - Ellis
Captain America - Spencer (I found the first part of Cap by Brubaker decent but it fell off a cliff after. This run had some fun with Sam Wilson)
Got plenty to choose from here across a range of super heroes and all of these are great contemporary runs for new readers. Pre 2000s is gonna be a rough read for anyone getting into comics not born then...
Hah! I didn't say these would SELL! LOL But I do think you underestimate the material AND the smart new reader's ability to enjoy and comprehend a work from a different era. But I could be wrong!
The beard of comic book knowledge strikes again.
Thanks Marcelo - I like that!
