  • My TBR (To Be Read) Shelf is organized by a modified FIFO system. FIFO stands for First In First Out. But what does that mean exactly? In this video I explain.
    --------
    After more than four decades collecting and reading comicbooks and related pop culture (TV, movies, video games, etc) as of 2022 I am sharing reviews/overviews of my collection. The plan is at least one new video every Monday!

    I don't know "how well" these kind of videos do on RUclips, but I like them a lot :) It's always interesting to see how people think when it comes to their reading, sorting their collections, stuff like that.
    I (almost) never have more than my latest haul in my tbr pile. I used to (like really recently) read more digitally and do more re-reads, but I'm in a low-energy period, so I'm just happy to get anything read atm :) I used to have a goal to read about six single issues per day, from my tbr, digitally or re-reads didn't matter. It didn't work every day, but I found it better to have a goal than not, for me at least, when my energy level was higher. The most important thing is not to be discouraged about what you don't read, but be satisfied with what you do read. I'm trying to implement that in my life as a whole, but it's always easier to judge yourself for what you don't do :D
    Today I read the first issue of Deadpool: Black, Wihite & Blood Treasury Edition ("only"), that's all I had the energy and patience for, but that's alright (for now), I can't be mad at myself that I didn't finish the whole book today, it's still on the table tomorrow too :D

      That sounds like a truly healthy attitude! This video is doing really well by standards. 300+ views in the first 15 hours is pretty great for my channel. Few of my videos pass 1k before they run out of gas. But don't get me wrong I am VERY grateful for ALL my views (& viewers)!

    I salute you! I started my Marvel Omni collection in 2020 and, thanks to Marvel's vigorous reprint schedule, have pretty much acquired every single Omni I'm ever going to want. Every Kirby and Ditko Omni, complete Claremont X-Books, every Amazing Spider-Man, and many more. Superheroes are purely a nostalgia trip for me, so I don't buy anything beyond the year 2000 or so. My purchases have really died down this year, so I too am looking to follow through on a grand reading project. I've actually had the most success with a "last in, first out approach," where I read the most recent acquisitions first because they're oftentimes what I'm most enthusiastic about. 😊

      Interesting "reverse FIFO"! Awesome job getting all your favorites! I am getting pretty close.....but then they print something else I "need"!

    TBR FIFO MOD. I wish I could stick to a system like this. I buy books and am determined to read them but then set them aside…I’m hopeless. Thus, I’m impressed with you.

    Would definitely love a reading habit video. As I myself in the past, have bought Omni’s that I didn’t read or finish reading. I did lose interest at one point but I think that was only due to what I was buying. My interest now is slowly ramping back up with my #1 Omni this year being Punisher Max & Maybe X-Men Animated Adaptations Omni, Uncanny X-Men Volume 1, or X-Men Grand Design (im undecided 😅)

      There really is no wrong answer to how we do it as long as we keep reading! I am working on ideas/notes for that Habits & Goals video.

    I would love a reading habits video. For me the best system has been to read what I can digitally on Marvel Unlimited and DC Universe Infinite and then I can focus on buying stuff not available there. I’m way too much of a mood reader to do your FIFO system haha.

    I wish I could rotate my TBR books like you. Part of my problem is that I won't buy the first volume of something because it isn't available, but I can buy 3 or the next 5.... so I'll find I NEVER get to read them because I still need Vol. 1, 4 and 6 of a six-volume set. I just find rando things completely out of sequence. Some I'll read on their own, others I will put aside indefinitely until I can track down the rest. 👀

    • @LarrysLibrary
      @LarrysLibrary  3 месяца назад +1

      I didn't mention that problem but usually they work their self out for me just from the time gap that the BIG TBR has anyway! Having said that when it's a collection of LONG series like Avengers for example you really don't need to start reading with volume 01 (although that IS fun). I think Stan Lee famously said that potentially EVERY issue could be someone's first comic!

    I'm very much a mood reader but with my TBR growing to outrageous levels (217 OGNs/TPB/omnis), I may need to implement some FIFO variation myself. The bigger trouble is having two young kids and very little time to read!

    • @LarrysLibrary
      @LarrysLibrary  3 месяца назад +1

      But what a great "problem" to have -right?

  • @ellesse3862
    @ellesse3862 3 месяца назад +1

    Ooooh .. didn't know this term but I use this logic with my grocery storage, as for my comicbooks I'm like you, I buy things to read, not to be decorative ornaments. Unread books wait organised by titles in chronological order, some do try to pointlessly queue jump but I'm unpredictable and keep my books guessing. Some are also deliberately unread, awaiting companion volumes so I can devour complete little runs. No FIFO guide to my choices, I'll usually read a set of something followed by stand alones, then another group of something, I just change themes as I go so its never two similar things back to back. I have also just stopped buying single issues so my hunger will be focused even more on those waiting comics.

      Controlled Chaos....if it works for you then awesome! :) I have mostly stopped buying singles....only finishing a very few items that are not collected in a good HC.

  • @wanwastrel

    My own style with the TBR books is sheer utter randomness. Let chaos reign! Muhahahahahaha... *cough* *cough* Sorry, that's my chaotic good alignment talking again.
    But randomness works for me because I like having some books that I haven't read yet so that there's always unread books available no matter the situation. Unexpected time to kill? I have a book to read. Natural disaster takes out the power for days or weeks? I have books to read. End of the world? I have books to read, in between bouts of fighting over dented cans of Spam (and that book on knife fighting will finally come in handy). For me, part of being prepared is having unread books.
