Woodturning Spalted Maple

- “Many of the woods I use are from trees that are cut down for construction. This is wood that would otherwise be burned or end up in a landfill.
To me, it is exciting to find the hidden beauty in a chunk of wood. Even a very plain piece of wood offers design opportunities. When working with plain wood, I often enhance the wood by carving or burning. My carved and burned designs mimic textures and patterns found in nature.

Very nice Heather. Love all the spalting. You made the right decision I do believe.
Thanks Doug! I do have more pieces with this spalting in it, so I may make a set of a few different pieces
Nice when mother nature adds to the look.
It sure is! Thanks for watching ❤️
Another piece which is completely different to what I'd though it'd be ... gorgeous as usual 👍
Thanks Barry! I thought about making a wide mouth vase about 1/2 way through, but I had this shape in mind when I started.
Great job Heather! 😊. That looks very nice
Thanks Todd!
Looks good, Heather.
Thanks Brad
Nice, I like the way the sanding sealer didn’t yellow the wood👍👍
I wood have started with the ruffing gouge “roughing “
Hi Heather, looks awesome
turned out gorgeous Heather. Great shape
Thanks, Mike! I have a few more pieces of this maple, so I might make a few matching pieces!
What a stunnine piece love the shape and spalting well done
Thanks Colin! I have a few more pieces in mind for the leftover pieces that I have. Maybe a set?🤔
Beautiful piece.
Hi Heather, you didn't mention that you had a video coming up but its another nice one!
Cheers & thnx again for earworming!
/Leo 😎
Thanks Leo! I try to get a video out every week, so I wasn't even thinking about it while earworming for you yesterday 🙃
Hi Heather ! Made yourself a sweet onion vase eh ? or perhaps a Vidalia ? What I may call it, it's simplicity makes it a standout ! Thanks for sharing. Take care. -Mike
I never thought of an onion! You're right, it does look like an onion!😁

Very nice. After seeing how well yours turned out I’m disappointed that I cut my log in half for two bowls rather than a Vance with the accented spalting.
Well done. Did that ring shake give you any trouble or did it stay tight?
Thanks Val. It didn't cause any trouble
