An interesting gift for shooting sports enthusiasts. Dremel makes both sanding drums and disks in several grits that give finer finish than metal grinding drums . I use JB metal mender epoxy to set blades and screws , and is more secure than thread lock compound , though it takes several hours to cure hard . I could see making both match and toothpick cases from this , but I will paint them to match the shell hull
Thanks Gary! I do have some of the proper sanding drums for the Dremel, but the metal one was on the Dremel and I wanted it "now", not in the 2 minutes it would take to change the bits. Yes, I'm impatient that way.🙄 Toothpick and match cases would look awesome made from these, especially if they were threaded! But I've never threaded before either! Thanks for all the suggestions! I thought they would sell really well here too Doug! But unfortunately, I've only sold 2 from 6 days of craft sales! I'm only asking $10.00 each, maybe it's too much?

The old primer is in, and I do drill a hole for the eye. But if you hit the steel pin, inside the primer, the eyescrew will either not go in, or go in crooked.
I heated up the shell on a panini press,(used only for crafting), and when it was hot and plyable it pulled out fairly easy using pliers and a leather glove.
Very cool. One suggestion. Polish the brass with some 0000 steel wool while still turning on the lathe. Done in seconds. Well 2 suggestions. I have used CA glue for a finish before but I have found a better easier alternative. Pens Plus from the Doctor’s woodshop is much faster and easier to apply and leaves a similar finish and you aren’t exposed to the glue fumes and burning fingers occasionally. The stuff is amazing. It’s my go to for finishing for a lot of my turnings now. Love it. 223 or other rifle casings with a wood bullet would be cool too. Take care, Scott
Thank you for the suggestions, Scott! I will definitely try out that finish. I have put out the word that I'm looking for larger caliber rifle casings too! Thanks for watching ❤️

Turned out nice!
Thanks 😊
Very nice. I really ought to hunt down all my empty casings. I believe these would sell really well here in KY.

Those turned out great, Heather!
Thanks Billy!
Great idea, but I would probably use a larger eye screw and two part epoxy instead of the thread lock.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely try that.
Interesting Dad gift you made there Heather. Take care. -Mike
Thanks Mike! My dad would have wanted one, for sure!❤️
...hmmm...I may have to give this a shot...
Cool idea and well done, Heather...🥂
Matt
Thank you so much! They are super easy
Neat! Maybe use bloodwood so that they look more like real shells? 🤔
Great idea!
Bloodwood or padauk might be a good choice.
Yes they would! But I don't have any, so, I use what I have

Cool idea Heather nicely done,
Cheers From Will 👍 😊
Thank you so much William!
I go skew when I get it round out
It gives a great finish that you hardly have to sand!
Unique way to apply the CA glue but my lathe doesn't go that slow. Adding: Why not leave the old primer in and drill for the eye?

@@spiritwynd Thanks.
Would be a great scratch awl
It would!
Rather a nice lasagna, and not have someone messing with my lathe. But it looks good
How did you get the plastic off the brass?
I heated up the shell on a panini press,(used only for crafting), and when it was hot and plyable it pulled out fairly easy using pliers and a leather glove.
That is my question, too.
