I believe it was the former, because it took a long time before we learned what Android 18 and 17's real names were. I still remember learning about it from Dragon Ball Z abridged, and I was so shocked that I had to pause the video and actually Google it to see if they were messing with me.

Vegeta's entrance, Raditz getting killed, they seemed sooooo desperate to defeat Vegeta. I really miss those feelings while watching animes now
Ye in hxh 2011 they changed some colours around, im most grateful for them changing Pokkle’s hair from grey to red and changing Shalnark from having a red outfit and brown hair to his current outfit with blonde hair🤞(other examples tho include: Bisky, Hisoka and Bienvolt)
Its probably the we forgot to ask thing cuz manga still had cover art and even in some special cases had a page or two in color at the begining of a chapter(its why sometimes the shading looks so different for those spesific pages)
It's always cool to see how the characters look in color. I remember back when I was reading Fairy Tail I always assumed Happy was pink. No real reason, he just looked like a pink cat to me. I had a friend who thought thought he was orange. We would argue it back and forth until the anime came out and realized he was blue. It still looks weird to me.
Thats why a colored cover in special copy of the magazine is a reward for the mangaka

The last for sure. Db character had cannon collors that the anim kinda trowed away. Best example is bulma, her cannon hair is purple like young trunks. She, young trunks and future trunks canonically have the same hair collor.
It’s because toriyama would tell them what he intended to make the color scheme but would change it later on and not notify them, which lead to green vegeta and a super sayain form with black hair from the lord slug movie.
in the DBZ movie Lord Slug, the form that Goku uses commonly referred to as "False Super Saiyan", Super Saiyan with black hair, was actually what Super Saiyan was originally meant to look like based on Toriyama's notes, as it was animated before Goku used the form against Frieza in the manga. They had not yet decided on golden hair, which was a change made for the manga to save time on inking Goku's hair.
The best use of black and white as a limitation in manga has to be Land Of The Lustrous. All the characters are bright and colorful so the mangaka leans instrad into how she can use the medium and not be limited by it. You know phos is mint green and cinnabar is a vibrant red but all you see is black white and grey. Its so good that when a trailer was made in the same style it looked odd to see them in color.
Thought you were gonna talk about the jojo's colours since it had ps2 games and fugo had completely diff colours. and araki makin the vol's colouring different each time made it harder
As a kid I only saw the different color scheme on that planet with the bug people and so I always just imagined that the atmosphere or sun were different on that planet and that's why they were different colors.
He first appeared sitting in front of a fire. They gave him a red color scheme to show the glow of the fire light. They didn't know the actual colors. The end.
The cover is always in color and the original mangaka has to give permission as well as input.. animators always know all the colors -- they only adjust colors if/when they want to, not because they don't know. :P PS: IF/when there's ever some rare comic that publishes its cover in black and white AND it's good enough to be adapted to animation -- the animation itself will probably be black and white too. ;) PPS: Any manga that isn't popular enough to have its own color cover, usually isn't popular enough to be adapted to anime.
Another thing that bugs me: Iida from My Hero Academia. In the anime, his eyes are blue, which is fine, a few characters have matching hair and eye colours, but in art and promotional stuff done by Horikoshi [the creator] his eyes are red, which is a common eye colour in the series, and neither have been changed, so WHICH IS IT?!
Actually, a black and white anime could be kinda cool. Or maybe if they do something like having some scenes be in black and white and others be in full color...
I find it fun when adaptaions play with the fact thT characters dont have colours Famously jojo does not have canon colourschemes for any of its characters which is part of the reason the anime got away with messing around with colour and visuals so much.
Every mangas have full color cover. And most popular mangas have art books that display the details of the characters in colors. Don’t the animators reference those?
As with every mangaka at work, Toriyama was busy on the manga every day, he couldn't stand behind every animator's back and watch them work. The production staff can have all the freedom they want on how to make anime series, since the manga artists have no power to decide on the production of the anime, especially Toriyama who at the time had not yet bought the rights to Dragon Ball
Worrying about the color later is something Toriyama would do.
HONESTLY THO

Same. I basically retconned Vegeta’s first appearance as a stylistic filter since a lot was told via flashbacks if I remember right.
Thats an interesting thought, but he looked like that in the space pod too,
They had a lot. Bulma and Trunks hair color is purple in all manga covers, but the anime change Bulma hair into Blue and Trunks into white

There are no fixed color palettes for the characters and it makes looking at them so much more interesting.
They had to go for the worst color palette in the beginning💀

Does anyone else really like the original vegeta colour scheme, ive always been a fan of it.
Rip iconic trunks hair
Honestly my favorite vegeta colors was when he had had the yellow and white and blue but he had brown tinted hair makes him seem younger
It looks like this was a common problem. Hunter X Hunter had similar issues with Hisoka.
Meanwhile Uzumaki:"I don't share the same weakness as you..."
In the manga his chakra is yellow and peoples chakra color varies while the anime all chakra is blue
At least it gave us my favorite vegeta alt color in fighterzw

Shiny pokemon is crazy and so valid omfg 😭
On Saint Seiya they had to add anime hair colors to the normal colors so it could make contrast with the colors in animation
I was shoked when i discovered that puck hair weren't green but blue
