Fun fact: Agrappina was a recreational sponge diver, which explains why she was able to swim as far as she could.
Thank you
I was wondering about that
How in the hell did she swim that far for so long?
Makes since
And funnily enough one of the oldest shipwrecks was found by a sponge diver
She was such a girlboss tbh
Huh, nice.
That is so funny, what a cool lady
Agrappina watching the crew beat her servant to death after she called herself the Empress: Bit odd init
nah took one for the team.
Listen, I don’t know what you expect her to do in that situation short of self sacrifice.
Servants were supposed to do anything to save their Masters in these situations, if they failed they may be executed, so damn if you do and damn if you don't.
Chewsday innit
@Oscar-ws3mf Well in some cultures yes. But I think the servant was trying to save herself. But it backfired.
So...we've had worst dads, worst moms, now worst kids...i'm curious if one day we'll get like a worst grandparents, worst in-laws or worst aunts and uncles in history lol
Worst father's brothers sons former roommates in history!
Worst uncle has got to be Richard the third. Bro threw his nephews in the tower of London to straight up DIE.
Worse Grandad? Tywin Lannister
If you really want to think about the dark stuff, the worst familial situations in history are the ones you'll never hear about since they never got caught.
Worst spouses in history!
Agrappina had such badass Last words! Love the art as always! You're the Best
Is it really a badass words though?
This short make it seem like she pridefully said the line but when you actually read the history records from both Tacitus and Cassius Dio, It's actually more like a despairingly cry of sorrow kind of words than prideful one.

Suggestion: the kids of Juana la Loca of spain who never bothered to reléase their mother from the imprisoment they imposed on her
Juana the Mad, sister of Catherine of Aragon? Oh yes absolutely. She was betrayed by all the closest men in her life: her father, husband, and sons. 😢
Her own father and husband were part of the whole thing
Her step father was kind enough to visit her and try his best to entertain her at least. @billcipherproductions1789
@@billcipherproductions1789They all basically pretended she was insane specifically to cut her out. Fucked up.
She was kept there more for political purposes than anything. Charles I was not popular in Spain, as he was mostly culturaly dutch and didn’t even know spanish (and also installed dutch administrators in spain), so she could have been used a tool by rebels who disliked Charles. She wasn’t kept there out of pure malice, and she actually had a pretty positive relationship with Charles
The way I read it, the servant had figured out they were trying to kill Agrappina and pretended to be her so she could get away.
If that's true, I would really like her as my servent😃
@@miaaasethI have some bad news for you, then...
@@citinox1778why, did the servant hurt her or conspire against her too?
@@charliefarmer4365 Nah, she was just trying to save herself in that situation. I’d do anything to save myself from drowning, including lying about my status or person to soldiers.
@@phantomarceus6387Both options seem plausible. The servant could've realized that all the mishaps on the boat were an assassination attempt on her mistress's life and claimed to be the Empress as a sort of self-sacrifice. I think Nero and Agrippina both qualify for this. Him for worst sons ever and she for worst moms ever. They were both sociopaths.
How was agrippina terrible?
@@Raven-lu5ee She poisoned her husband Claudius to install Nero as Emperor, for the beginning of Nero's rule she kept him in check by threatening to put Claudius' son Britannicus in charge, basically threatening to kill her own son. She didn't care about him, she only cared about the power and prestige.
@phantomarceus6387 oh damn, thanks for the info. I might read up on this, sounds interesting!
Yeah, I would have come out of the water taken my goods and left never to be seen again. This lady was nuts to write her son after an obvious assassination attempt.
She clearly didn't want to let go of the power and the ego thinking that a letter would be enough like woman he tried to kill you 😂😂
Lincoln's son had his mother institutionalized.
Because she was losing her mind.
I mean, it was either putting her out of her misery or sending her to a mental hospital so which one would you rather?
@@frankie3010 yeah its not like she saw her husband get shot straight in the head or anything....
@@Nepafarius Dude, she lost her husband and three of her four sons. No wonder she went round the bend.
@9eishitasharma501 she was reportedly pretty nutty before that happened.
Nero was definitely a sociopath, but he also definitely got that personality from Agrappina. Both were crazy crazy.
I was gonna say, this spin of Agrapinna as cool or smart or strong is wild AF... She was clever, in a devious way.... and I guess a good swimmer? maybe?
But the woman was an absolute monster, and like 95% chance most of what was wrong with Nero was directly because of how she raised and interacted with him
Saw what you did there, little Ceasars pizza.
Yeah, like writing a letter to him showing she was not suspicious of him at all, not very convincing 😂
nero from dmc?
Nero's father, Domitiius Ahenobarbus, was.alao a sociopath/murderer (and Agrippina's first cousin once removed).
Agrippina also had a track record of having husbands, step-children, siblings, and children suspiciously dying upon Nero's ascension
Agrippina could also qualify as Worst Mom in History. Nero didn’t kill her just for a power play. She was actively controlling and abusive towards him. Including repeatedly making him consume poison throughout his childhood, allegedly to build tolerance. One of the many reasons he grew to become a nutcase.
Was wondering if someone was gonna say this... Like this shorts representation of things is deeply inaccurate and wild af... they were both crazy monsters, but she was no victim, and Nero wasnt JUST being crazy or evil
She's might be behind some of the other death, like the previous Emperor.
This. This is what they really needed to focus on. This short instead makes Nero appear to be a murderous nutcase for no reason.
It always comes full circle... Villains are made, not born.

To be fair Nero had reason to kill her. She had been poisoning him with lead lined cups which is why he was prone to chronic migraines, which in turn made him extremely short tempered.
If i remember the story correctly the issue with the couch wasnt that it was too big, but that because romans reclined sideways on couches Agrappina only suffered a mild shoulder injury
and Nero didn't *Just* kill his mother for power and prestige but as revenge, in order to get Nero on the throne she married her Pedo uncle Claudius and gave him Nero as a plaything
If that is true, no wonder he was a psycho

Revenge for what, making him emperor? It was definitely not revenge. Also Agrippina was around 34 when she married her uncle

So very little sympathy for that one
Agrappina was basically Cersei Lannister. She schemed and lied and killed to make him emperor. Look how that worked out for her
Trueee, House of Dragon too
Many of the the historical narratives written about Nero were from rival faction many years after his death and Agrippa’s “last words” were taken line from line from a famous play at the time. He didn’t play the fiddle while Rome burned it hadn’t been invented yet. He was at a vacation villa and immediately returned at news of the fire and opens the doors of the palace to those affected. History is written by those who hang heroes
Though using one of the affected areas for a large rebuilding project certainly didn't help, even if the fire itself wouldn't have made any difference.
@@llSuperSnivyll yeah, I was about to being this up. He built something especially for him in the area that burnt which is why this narrative was brought up.
@@PJ_Playz added that last line for the dramatics. He is by no means a hero, however he isn’t what he’s been painted as. He was a very popular emperor with the people as he lowered taxes, gave slaves more rights(including the ability to report on their masters)
@@CyberiaCafe oh I know. I am speaking only on the fact on why that narrative popped up in the first place. It was said that he built on the area that burned something especially for himself which was fishy to a lot of people looking at it. Edit: it was Domus Aurea he built over it aka his "Golden House."
Could you provide any sources about this? I'd love to read more about it.

She would also fit for a worst mom from what i understand but Nero was still worse then her by alot
According to all records, she kept her son in check(Nero only git worse as time went on. He's literally notorious), and was a fair and kind regent.
@@NameHere2856Nero was reportedly loved by the masses in his time and all the hate we hear about his were just the senators he fucked over (pretty much all of them) and since the illiterate masses don’t write the history we got a very distorted and biased account of Nero’s life
@@Sgt_ioiwsl Funnily enough, Nero was going to support the Senate at sharing power... but Agrapina vetoed it...
... which became a common theme between him and Agrapina.
It’s very important to know that this account was written years after Nero’s death by his political opponents and was most likely fabricated. The story of Agrippina (especially the part where she asks to be stabbed where the monster is created) was ripped almost entirely from mythology.

Most historians didn't (some still don't) care for women, this doesn't mean women didn't exist or have otherwise fulfilling lives that went unrecorded.
That and a significant amount of women in history died due the birth of their 6th+ child, roughly by age 30.

YES. NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE TALK ABOUT THIS.
Hatshepsut/Maatkare was a brilliant parent and Thutmose did her dirtyyyyyyyyy

It's also because he was obsessed with literature and dead parents is a classic trope. He wanted to be part of the gang. 😅
Neron was one of the worst kid ever but aggripine wasn't one of the best mom. And she was probably the worst nephew
Here we go again.
Should've gone into hiding rather than altering Nero she was alive. He may've just assumed she'd drowned.
Nero was just a monster in general
good video for mornings
This woman was just as horrible as her son. Had an incestuous relationship with her brother Caligula and then her uncle Claudius, probably poisoned Claudius, then his freedman Narcissus and then Claudius' son (her cousin and step-son) Britannicus.
If that wasn't enough, she was likely doing the horizontal tango with Nero himself too. (Incest bingo anyone?)
What's funny is that this assassination attempt was not the first one, there was a previous one where Nero tried to have the roof of Agrippina's house fall on her.
(Interesting side-fact: Future Emperor Titus was a stalwart companion of Britannicus. He was at the dinner where Britannicus met his end and, upon realizing what had happened, drank from the same cup that had poisoned his friend in an attempt to die with him)
(Interesting Fact Number 2: Agrippina also REALLY hated Titus' dad, also a Future Emperor, Vespasian)
...and i thought i was like a demon when a teenager
those last words go so hard she ate up
Agrippina: "What a beautiful child-he will be so good when he is older."

PANR has tuned in.
Nero was literally insane as a result of his family and the amount of power he held at such a young age.
I love how her servant claimed she was the empress to get saved sooner and then immediately got karma as she was promptly beaten to death by a paddle
Next : Worst Kids in History: Frederick the Great
nero is basically one of the worst roman emporers

That servant got a nice case of instant karma
I actually recently translated this text for school (written by Tacitus, it’s a hell) and according to the text the servant, called acceronia was also one of aggripina’s friends, and it wasn’t just the curtain thingy that crashed, it was the whole ass ceiling, which the bed somehow held
I think worst grandmother goes to Athalia - she was a foreigner who became a surrogate queen after her husband died, and she had all her children and grandchildren killed so she could keep the throne.
It’s crazy how ancient Rome went from a republic to having a kid in charge
Nero was sick of being called deadweight. 💀
Gotta wonder how that leter went
"So, I'm alive, and I DEFINITELY don't think you're trying to kill me, your own mother. I don't suspect that this is some elaborate plot, but I will be fleeing the empire for totally unrelated reasons."
He also burned down Rome and then blamed it on Christians. He was the dude who heavily ramped up the persecutions.
We keep expanding from Dads to Moms to kids
Neat
Nero was horrible but he definitely got that from Agrappina who did pretty messed up stuff to make sure her son (Nero) and not Britannicus became emperor and she definitely acted way more based on her own interests then his.
to be fair, Agrippina was not a model mother either. Like a textbook evil queen, she tried to use Nero as a proxy to rule Rome, but didn't count on Nero rebelling against her.
When you've read Trials of Apollo and already had an inkling of how awful Nero was, but this takes it to another level
I really enjoy your different perspective on, not only history, but the entire take of families and generations over the years. You have some very fantastic original content. Keep up the incredible work please and thank you! 😊
If I were Agrappina, after escaping I would have sent a letter to Nero claiming that "The Empress has been killed" and went into hiding.
That moment where she witnesses the servant getting killed was straight out of an Arrested Development episode
It’s not 100% confirmed she said that, all surviving stories of her death contradict eachother and themselves and are generally considered Fantasy
Imagine how traumatising it was to witness the servant say "I'm the empress" and see her get killed harder 😭
Don't forget Nero watched the whole city burn and just rocked out to the chaos. 😂😂😂
Little context: Agrippina poisoned the previous emperor, so her infant son can become her puppet emperor, while she ran things. However as he grew up, Nero started to assert his independence, so Agrippina started threatening that she would replace him with his cousin. So, taking a page from *her* book, he poisoned his cousin… yeah, Roman families were messed up
Funnily enough Agrappina would also fall under worst moms in history as well. Since she was trying to control the kingdom through her son and was trying to replace him when he was no longer complaint.
Let's not forget, Agrapina the Youngest went out of her way to make Nero the emperor. She kind of brought that on her self
don't feel too bad for her, she poisoned her husband (and uncle) Emperor Claudius to death in order to put Nero on the throne.
Bro's had enough💀
Nero was a son from hell? Dang who pulled his devil trigger
She even went to a soothsayer/astrologer way back before Nero became emperor and he said that 'If Nero becomes emperor, he will kill you'. To which Agrippina said, "Let me die as long as he is Emperor"
Any other zombies players hearing nero and yelling SHADOWS OF EVIL REFERENCE!
"I'M THE EMPRESS!" *gets bonked to death*
"Strike me here where the monster came from"
This feels like such a fate driven turn of events, if I was the assassins I would’ve assumed she was protected by the gods and refused any further attempts on her life.
