Just a thing I want to point out (which doesn't really help the theory in any way) is that in my country, Latvia, Nickelodeon had all of their cartoons dubbed in Russian (because a big portion of latvian population consists of russian speaking people), so Dora was teaching us English instead of Spanish.
@@oncefighting I honestly haven't developed it enough to form a full theory, it's mainly just "this kid looks nothing like the rest of his family, so I'mma say he's adopted so I can imagine the fake drama in this extremely mind rotting show" lol Like if I'm remembering correctly, he has blonde hair and blue eyes but those traits aren't found anywhere else in his family. One of his parents has red hair and the other has brown hair, and then one has green eyes and the other brown. The siblings have a mix of those traits and even the grandparents don't have blue eyes (their hair is gray tho so idk about either of them being blonde) And that's really all there is to the theory, just anything to make it more palatable to my fragile mind lmao EDIT: alright turns out I was in fact remembering the blue eyes wrong his eyes are brown, but that doesn't change the fact that he's blonde and no one else in the family is blonde (that we know of) Idk how genes work admittedly, so idk if him being the only blonde is possible or not genetically It's just more fun to say he's adopted 💀
This really is MatPat at his finest. There’s not supposed to be something here to find. Unlike creepypastas, ARGs, and other baited mysteries, Matt is out here digging up fresh cadavers in a children’s show. Perfection.
Swiper is almost definitely based on Huehuecoyotl, and Aztec fox god of mischief, who was often depicted as being trapped by chanting of specific phrases. So it was a little weird to not see him mentioned at all... Though it's possible that Matpat just steered clear of trying to say his name 👀
Huehuecoyotl it’s not a fox, it’s more of a dog-like wolf crossed, which it’s called coyote, and Huehuecoyotl was the mexica (mexicas are aztecs but after they society became greater and more complex) god of art, music and dance, it’s a good theory buuut I don’t think that’s the way Matpat was heading to…
I think the only issue I have with this theory is that Dora has family inside of the game, unless we assume that they got sucked in too which would be entirely possible.
It's entirely possible that the family is merely side chararacters in the video games to make it seem more realistic to dora.Plus Dora in the original did have family (Abuela, and diego)
I think they are characters somehow added by the demon into the game because if we want to tie the show and movie together, in the show her family actually take part in the gameplay like everyone else yet in the movie they suddenly don't, maybe the demon eventually dragged her actual family in and that's why they are kind of freaked through out the movie, maybe the demon entirely broke Dora and got bored so he dragged in her family to mess with them. The movie just takes place after the show when Dora has finally completely snapped and given in to living in the video game
I think it's more of a dream, maybe she plays the game so much she dreams about it. She leaves the game on when she goes to sleep. That or she has a mental illness. Makes more sense, but not a great theory video
At long last, about time we got a Dora episode. The final vestige of my childhood. Really enjoying MatPat's children show copium arc, very entertaining stuff!
@@Green_Stache_Productions I heavily doubt it. He probably just presents them. The only instance where i think he is still involved in the contents are the food theory videos where is doing something in person.
I was the innocent type to actually help Dora as a kid? Yes Did my childhood become slightly rancid while reading the title? Yes Did I still watch the video from start to finish? YES
I like that sometimes Mat and his crew craft intricate and well researched theories that have TONS of proof, and then there are theories like this that have very little actual proof of the theory itself and just kind of meanders for a bit. It's a fun mixed bag of "Yeah I believe it" and "Are you getting enough sleep, Mat?"
The live-action Dora movie was amazing, except for one thing. They never gave any explanation for Swiper! He's just there and everyone points out how weird it is that he exists at all. The fact that this theory actually gives a semi-solid explanation is honestly a relief and lets my poor mind relax and enjoy the movie more.
I hate it because it directly contradicts the canon of the shows in which Dora moves to the city while Diego is never shown moving (unless I missed something)
@@fantacat8 still hate raycons tho. Most of the add placements I can accept but he is literally saying go pay around 80$ on earbuds that are actually on like 15$ they just slapped their name on them.
I remember owning a Dora film where she helps a winter princess with snow powers. I think Dora has done a lot of heroic deeds, so I can see why a fox demon would want to stop that.
Dora was one of my childhood shows that I watched. My parents say that I learned Spanish (I am a Filipino kid) by watching it and now that I'm getting older... I kinda screamed that the thing she was looking at was there but she couldn't hear us.
My friend's family moved to America from Mexico when he was five. His mom didn't know any English at that point, so she would watch the Spanish dub with him to learn English.
Two things: 1.- I'm mexican and I swear that I was correcting MattPat's spanish A LOT. I got to admit, you are better than my cousin' that lives in USA (MattPat if you are reading this you pronounced the "Hola" correcly but, you prunounced "Bienvenidos al la teoría de las peliculas" incoreectly. I supposed to be pronounced as "bien-ve-NI-do a la te-o-Rí-a de las pe-LI-cu-las") 2.- I love how MattPat can turn any children's show to a straight up satanic thing. He is a true legend
It’s got to the point now where when I see a new film theory video pop up, I just read the title, shrug and just go “yeah ok true” because I know that when I watch it, no matter how crazy and insane the theory is, MatPat always manages to make it sound somewhat believable. 😂
Live action Dora talking to the invisible audience from the parents' perspective reminds me of those stories where kids have "imaginary friends" that they talk to, usually tied with ghosts or demons...
One thing I’d like to mention. I believe there was a Christmas special set in the future and Dora tried to use her typical “Swiper no swiping” phrase to ward him off to which he responded by saying “That doesn’t work anymore.” Just thought that was something worth mentioning
Another thing about the “swiped no swiping” chant is it only works if done successfully three times. Idk how accurate to irl exorcism that is but it definitely checks out with Hollywood depictions.
@@kingdomtrue7008 (flashbacks to OG Wind Waker and all the charts and repetitive treasures trawling just to find the triforce of courage and progress the game)😳🥺😭
Something else to solidify MatPat's theory: The number 3 is associated with the devil and spirits; the devil knocks 3 times on a door and the 3rd hour past midnight being the demonic witching hour. Dora says her chant "Swiper no swiping" exactly 3 times for him to stop and run away.
Yea but this theory is crushed for 3 reasons 1.we see Dora's parents often NoT a big point but I should mention it 2.there was a multiveral episode or future episode where we see a world where swiper just takes stuff and the swiper no swiping doesn't work anymore 3.why would she need all these clients a cousin or parents if it's all just to torment her
Love that MatPat completely ignores that Dora's ENTIRE family lives inside the game and she even got episodes dedicated to her mom being pregnant and giving birth to her twin siblings 😂
I think the parents followed her into the game and are restricted mostly to the house. The parents might have lost their memories or are pretending to make Dora feel more comfortable because she's a kid
you say as though video games dont have pregnant people, moms, and families in them XD if you're a malicious fox demon trapping a young girl in a video game I'm pretty sure you would also be able to make ANYTHING you want in said game. including a bunch of make believe creatures and talking animals.
Fun fact that my friend told me: Dora is in a coma Because why would she Explore alone? Another fun fact: Dora is Blind so she needs Boots to help her see the stuff
I have very few memories of this show but one thing that I remember was in one Christmas special Swiper to put on the naughty list, so since he had no more motivation to be good when the heroes tried using the “Swiper no swiping” strategy he just turned to them and said “that doesn’t work anymore.” As five year old me, I was thinking “thing just got serious.”
Whenever Matpat sees a normal show, he most probably uses proof by contradiction to prove that show is innocent, but the contradiction never occurs and the show gets darker.
Hey, you know, I've got a theory. Before Dora was the protagonist in her game, Boots used to be the protagonist. The game seemed to be a normal game before, until Swiper was corrupted by a spirit. Before Dora got sucked into the game, she was a normal human, always playing the game Boots the Explorer (I call it that because I believe Boots used to be the protagonist.) But then the spirit that corrupted Swiper sucked Dora into the game, turned her into a protagonist, and renamed the game to Dora the Explorer. Boots has now became a companion to Dora. And that, I think, was the dark origins of Dora the Explorer. But hey, that's just a theory, my Film Theory!
@@coolgamerguydude0897 i think they were saying that their theory was before dora was sucked in that Boots was the protagonist. when dora was sucked in swiper altered the code (ala king candy from wreck it ralph) to make her the protagonist which would alter the game title
@@anthskywalker but what about the people who were playing the game what do they think about suddenly this new character just kind of appeared the reason people don’t have suspicions for venelope is because they thought she was some new character and because there was never a main character in the game anyway nobody thought anything about it
This feels like coming full circle. I loved this show as a rosy-cheeked, bouncy five-year-old who loved cute things, and now I'm here as a depressed, gothy teenager who loves creepypasta, watching a horror theory of the cutesy show I loved as a toddler.
I could see myself taking unspecified psychedelics, and watching the Dora the Explorer movie. I didn’t know it even existed, til this video. I probably wouldn’t have been inclined to watch it, having simply known about it, but that clip of, “I’m a talking backpack!” Totally sold me on it. That line delivery, alone was freaking solid!
It's actually quite funny. The jokes and delivery are pretty smart. If you want a light and easy to watch movie that's also fun, the Dora movie works pretty good
I used to watch Dora when I was younger and I was so happy when I saw you made a video about this mattPat! Thank you for crushing my childhood this really made my day/gen
That is actually unbelievably similar to how Jumanji works in the new movies as it seems she's using her character powers throughout the movie and The one time she seemingly would have died she respawned the exact same way it would in Jumanji, they're running on the same game engine :0
My dad at one point had called her 'Dora the thief' due to her never once being called out for taking stuff, and, if you think about it, he does have a slight point. With the animated section of the movie, at least it had some logic in terms of how she got back up to where she jumped off.
Mildly interesting fact of the day, growing up I had no idea that Dora taught Spanish. In Denmark where I'm from, Dora spoke Danish and taught English phrases. Also, about foxes; just like you might compare people's traits to animals, one can be stubborn as donkey, strong as a oxe, or sly/crafty as a fox.
I like when you do theories on kids shows. Not because it's a subject I'm all that intrested in but because it means you are spending so much time with Ollie that you don't have time to scower other media for lore.
i was watching this with headphones on, and the sound design of dora talking, deliberate or not, was low-key terrifying, it sounded like her voice was coming from somewhere else in the house
You could expand this by saying that the reason she had to keep participating in the game was cos she didn't know Swipers full name. So she could ward him off (temporarily) but never truly exorcise and get rid of him.
I've barely seen any Dora, yet I've seen enough about the show to know that Swiper and Dora are actually friends, and that the whole "Swiper, no swiping" thing is a game. After all, Swiper doesn't steal the things, he just hides them lazily to create another game for Dora to play instead of just taking whatever he stole for himself. They have often helped each other when they need it, and actually do get along.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure there was one episode where swiper got stuck in a bottle and Dora and Boots weren't even slightly hesitant to help him out. I don't think a lot of people would be that willing to help out demon that "torture" them.
@@PokefanSans Their was a Christmas episode where Swiper and Dora basically go through a Christmas Carol but for Swiper and at the end of the episode he gets a sack full of gifts and what does he do with said gifts? Gives them away to everyone. Even when Dora was hesitant in taking his last Christmas gift from Santa, he insisted that she take it. #JusticeforSwiper
Matpat always finds a way to get more out of a game, food or a child's show. First Amanda and now Dora. Although I think Dora is blind because she can't see anything unless we yell at our TV.
I don't think she's blind, I think it's because she literally can't act when the game expects input from the player. Wouldn't make sense for a point-and-click game to play itself.
As someone who grew up on this show, WOW. I was not expecting this. Kudos to MatPat for making such wild theories that somehow, by some bizarre twist of fate, actually kind of make sense. Also, a show that would be good to check out would be The Owl House. It's kind of like Gravity Falls, and it has surprisingly deep lore. With season 3 coming out soon, I would be really excited to see if Film Theory could come up with something about it :D
I love showing this to my English Learning students. It's an excellent program, and thank you for giving me another way to enjoy it. :) While I didn't come up with this theory myself, I always had suspicions in my mind that something was off about this show. the computer game quality too it, etc. I didn't realize a lot of that was intended as well.
Wow, it's amazing how convincing this whole theory is, and how neatly the pieces line up. Also, am I the only one to think that, maybe, Boots was originally the main character of the game, but Dora supplanted him when she got trapped in it?
Something I wanna point out is that the show slowly looses its video gamey elements as it goes on. The first intro, walking into the room with the computer, is only in the first two seasons. Similarly, the character find outro, and any similar minigame outro like for the explorer stars, lasts until season 4, replaced by a generic credits sequence season 5 onwards. Also, dora used to have these minigame-like events quite often, along the lines of navigating a character from one point to another, or dodging falling acorns (the latter of which actually became a flash game at some point). They’re like any other point in the show, but styled just differently enough to raise an eyebrow. As far as I remember, these were slowly phased out as the show went on, and completely gone by season 5. And finally, there was pretty much always this blue cursor hanging around, clicking on objects, locations, etcetera. Essentially the closest thing to the audience surrogate the show consistently had. However, by around season 5, it slowly stopped showing up. Even simple small things, like clicking on dora at the end of the episode, or those pop up location squares. The last remnant of it left by the show’s end was clicking on dora after the finale song to lead into the ending. Nowadays, dora being themed about a classic video game is as good as forgotten, and most of the pop culture around her never seems to bring it up as far as I know. Though to be fair, there’s a lot of things in this show that the internet ignores. Either way, the show becoming less like a video game as it goes on… When put into context with this theory, seems rather suspicious, doesn’t it?
It could be that the creators of the Dora game (the tormentors) are trying to gaslight her into staying complacent by removing everything and destroying the fantasy. But I still don't think it's Swiper specifically. Remember, Swiper does have moments where he is actually friendly towards Dora and Boots. Unless he's gaslighting her once again (as Mat seems to imply) into trusting her or trying to cozy her up (dude's a creep for following the two wherever they go), it leads me to believe that he is just as much a victim as Dora and Boots. I think all the characters in the game are victims, kinda like in our Dora's dark spiritual successor Amanda The Adventurer, of cruel developers using real people to create their game, with those people slowly forgetting who they once were and eroding into their video game identities as the series goes on, but Dora and Boots are the only ones still able to see through the trap.
I had my own personal theory awhile back that Swiper actually has a traumatic past and whenever Dora says "Swiper no swiping" he gets PTSD, possibly because his previous owners were thieves that mistreated him and used him to rob people.
Something that I haven't see anyone really point out yet: I personally believe one of the main reasons Dora isn't included in the "Hide and Seek" minigame and why there isn't any merch of Dora in the house when the person walks up to the computer, isn't because she's part of a game she's not supposed to be in, but because the person that walks up to the computer in the first place to play the game IS Dora herself. I think Dora's in the game because it's supposed to be representative of how kids imagine themselves in the world of something that they're really obsessed with. I think this can be supported by episodes that involved her actual family, like for instance, the special "Dora's Big Birthday Adventure!" I think if she were actually trapped in the game, it would show her family in the same world as well, so I would use this as evidence of Dora imagining two things that she really loved, her family and this particular video game, coming together. But that's just a comment theory!
i know right because there's a theory that reads that Dora's a witch🧙♀️that turn Swiper from a man to a fox and in that episode,he did that to get revenge♂️🦊🫤
Dora is a character I’ve always thought was weird. On another note, I’ve always thought Tigger from Winnie the Pooh was strange too, especially the part about him happily singing that “the most wonderful thing about tigers is I’m the only one”, in a world where there is usually only one of each kind of character (except for Roo and Kanga)? It’s one thing to sing about personal uniqueness but that line raises a lot of questions once you start thinking about it? Also, you wonder if his physical description is canonically intended to be literal or metaphorical? A stuffed animal made of rubber and springs? I think I remember Christopher Robin acknowledges they are stuffed animals because didn’t he sew Pooh’s stitching back at some point?
@@ignaciodiazmoore I did remember that immediately after posting it! Its the tigger movie. Another interesting idea in that movie is that owl does have a family and has a wall with pictures of all of them.

The siblings have a mix of those traits and even the grandparents don't have blue eyes (their hair is gray tho so idk about either of them being blonde)
And that's really all there is to the theory, just anything to make it more palatable to my fragile mind lmao
EDIT: alright turns out I was in fact remembering the blue eyes wrong his eyes are brown, but that doesn't change the fact that he's blonde and no one else in the family is blonde (that we know of)
Idk how genes work admittedly, so idk if him being the only blonde is possible or not genetically
It's just more fun to say he's adopted 💀
All this made me realize is that Dora's full name is probably Computadora.
This really is MatPat at his finest. There’s not supposed to be something here to find. Unlike creepypastas, ARGs, and other baited mysteries, Matt is out here digging up fresh cadavers in a children’s show. Perfection.

Or maybe I AM a bot hm? Didya ever think of that?
Wth is going on here
@Тhе Game Theorists 🅥 you aren't the real game theory you're a bot
Swiper is almost definitely based on Huehuecoyotl, and Aztec fox god of mischief, who was often depicted as being trapped by chanting of specific phrases. So it was a little weird to not see him mentioned at all... Though it's possible that Matpat just steered clear of trying to say his name 👀
Bruh nooo!
Huehue
Tbf, I try not to say the names of certain demons, as well...
DONT READ MY NAMES!😐.......
Yes, my next question was going to be about Diego. Is he inside a video game too??
Dora is possibly just playing a role to not draw suspicion
The intro sounded REAL AND FREAKED ME OUT.

Hi
Oh my freaking gosh, This is like Amanda The Adventure in a nutshell
Something else to solidify MatPat's theory:
The number 3 is associated with the devil and spirits; the devil knocks 3 times on a door and the 3rd hour past midnight being the demonic witching hour. Dora says her chant "Swiper no swiping" exactly 3 times for him to stop and run away.
Yesss I thought he was gonna mention that
Ever heard of the rule of 3?
Yea but this theory is crushed for 3 reasons
1.we see Dora's parents often NoT a big point but I should mention it
2.there was a multiveral episode or future episode where we see a world where swiper just takes stuff and the swiper no swiping doesn't work anymore
3.why would she need all these clients a cousin or parents if it's all just to torment her
@@july7498 no I haven't heard of the 3 rule unless it's the dropped food one
So then the Christian God is the devil? As that would be the Trinity, ergo 3, ergo Satan? 😄 I love it
Love that MatPat completely ignores that Dora's ENTIRE family lives inside the game and she even got episodes dedicated to her mom being pregnant and giving birth to her twin siblings 😂
WHAT?
I think the parents followed her into the game and are restricted mostly to the house. The parents might have lost their memories or are pretending to make Dora feel more comfortable because she's a kid
They could be NPCs in the game and the mom getting pregnant and having twins could be part of the game storyline
you say as though video games dont have pregnant people, moms, and families in them XD if you're a malicious fox demon trapping a young girl in a video game I'm pretty sure you would also be able to make ANYTHING you want in said game. including a bunch of make believe creatures and talking animals.

Fun fact that my friend told me: Dora is in a coma Because why would she Explore alone? Another fun fact: Dora is Blind so she needs Boots to help her see the stuff
I have very few memories of this show but one thing that I remember was in one Christmas special Swiper to put on the naughty list, so since he had no more motivation to be good when the heroes tried using the “Swiper no swiping” strategy he just turned to them and said “that doesn’t work anymore.”
As five year old me, I was thinking “thing just got serious.”
There were a few time then Swiper would swipe before telling him not to a 3rd time
Whenever Matpat sees a normal show, he most probably uses proof by contradiction to prove that show is innocent, but the contradiction never occurs and the show gets darker.
True
So like your saying that dora has a new spin off game or something and there hasn’t been merch made for her yet
@@coolgamerguydude0897 i think they were saying that their theory was before dora was sucked in that Boots was the protagonist. when dora was sucked in swiper altered the code (ala king candy from wreck it ralph) to make her the protagonist which would alter the game title

He reminds me some beta Sonic design
Dora pulled a King Candy
Either way, the show becoming less like a video game as it goes on…
When put into context with this theory, seems rather suspicious, doesn’t it?
I'm surprised how Mat can squeeze a theory out of anything.

I mean it's basically a knock off of Jumanji 2 but that film was also better than it had any right to be, so it evens out.
That’s cute
Right?!
This officially the MOST SCARY INTO MATPATS EVER HAD
I had my own personal theory awhile back that Swiper actually has a traumatic past and whenever Dora says "Swiper no swiping" he gets PTSD, possibly because his previous owners were thieves that mistreated him and used him to rob people.
@cyber nah, that's probably how to fry potatos
Something that I haven't see anyone really point out yet:
I personally believe one of the main reasons Dora isn't included in the "Hide and Seek" minigame and why there isn't any merch of Dora in the house when the person walks up to the computer, isn't because she's part of a game she's not supposed to be in, but because the person that walks up to the computer in the first place to play the game IS Dora herself.
Maybe its like a game where you can customise your character
Yes! And maybe the Swiper thing is because she does not know any other way to make this fox go away!
i know right because there's a theory that reads that Dora's a witch🧙♀️that turn Swiper from a man to a fox and in that episode,he did that to get revenge♂️🦊🫤
Tiggers. The line is the most wonderful thing about tiggers is that im the only one. But I do see where your trying to go with this.

I was just being a smartass and making a dumb little jab that's all :p
I remember Dora the Explorer growing up, when I was really really young. I used to get so angry that she didn't turn around and see what she was asking about. My parents had to stop me from watching it because I got so angry at it. The start of this video reminded me of that.

If this comment gets more than one like I will watch all of Matt pad videos throughout all 13 years on game theory food theory film theory and style theory and gt live
Your just wanting likes
I never realized the show was presented like an old school point-and-click adventure game. I thought that the floating cursor was just a normal thing in the show's universe. I mean, you can stop a thief by politely asking three times, so a giant floating cursor doesn't seem that weird by comparison.
I saw it as a cartoon like "Micky Mouse series where he had to do some things with this 4 items. And the fourth was a secret". I never thought it was a game
Don't forget a giant red hen, talking inanimate objects and the fact the characters address the viewers
@@samuraitadpole5459 yeah, a giant floating cursor just seems normal in a world with such nonsensical shenanigans.
I also never find the characters addressing me directly to be weird because of shows like Blue's Clues and Little Einsteins. I just thought that's how some kid shows were when I was younger.
One of the intros literally shows Dora as a game on a computer
@@badkitty4317 I managed to somehow completely block that out of my memory. I don't remember that at all.
