    • @MaximumDIYGarage
      @MaximumDIYGarage  3 года назад

      You are welcome Savannah! I have not seen too many videos on these on RUclips for Mitsu Outlander, so I decided to film my experience. It is not as straightforward as one may think, and the fitment takes a little tweaking. For example, I had to file down the washers and had to file down one of the mounting brackets. Make sure the brackets fit snugly in the groove, otherwise the railing will not adhere tightly to the roofline. I am not 100% satisfied with these Chinese made knock offs, but in my application these are more for Looks than for function. I think the rails give the car more finished and refined look. And the added benefit of course that you can install cross rails on them to haul bikes, skis and snowboards and other items. Which car make/model do you have?

    • @savannahthomas9606
      @savannahthomas9606 3 года назад

      @@MaximumDIYGarage I have a 2017 mitsubishi outlander. I had to file down the washers too lol, it is was so tedious. After getting it all installed I wasn't to impressed with these rails. I bought the cross rails to put on them and it just didn't feel as secure as I'd like. They definitely do feel more like they are just for looks. Which was kind of a bummer cuz I had spent so much time installing them. I ended up returning the cross rack and getting the door hooks to attach the roof cargo bag I had bought.

    • @MaximumDIYGarage
      @MaximumDIYGarage  3 года назад

      I wondered how they’d work with cross rails. I suspected that it won’t be rock solid given the quality at this price point ($130 on eBay vs $275 for OEM from a dealer) Thanks for sharing your experience!

    I have a 2018 outlander and it came with roof rails similar to what you have added but we're looking to replace the rails to ones that have the gap underneath. Would replacing them be similar to the steps you took, just a different roof rails?

    • @MaximumDIYGarage
      @MaximumDIYGarage  Год назад

      Hello Dana! I personally find ones that have gaps underneath (between the roof and the rails) more useful as you can easily tie things down to them. I have those in my GX470 and XTerra. However, I have not seen such rails that would be made a specifically for the Outlander. If you find some, I am certain they mount in a similar way.
      As I have mentioned in some of my previous comments, these rails I’ve installed are not designed for any serious cargo box or other weight carrying. These are just for looks. They come stock on Highest trim level (SEL if you are in the US) and look much better that little rubber strips covering g the rail gutter. Just my 2 cents.

      Be aware, they are of questionable quality in terms of load capacity. Unless you are installing them just for looks, I would avoid these. The installation hardware scratches the paint within the roof canal, which may cause corrosion down the road and have potential roof leak if installed as is without proper pads (not included) and automotive caulk/sealant. If you are planning to mount transverse rails to carry a roof box or heavier loads, I would definitely not recommend these.
