    The Murano spare works perfectly fine for the Outlander and are usually plentiful at junkyards. It will very slightly rub on the front brake caliper but you should always use a donut/spare on the rear only in any vehicle as the engine weight and majority of braking force is in the front. If you get a front flat replace it with a rear tire and put the spare in on the back.

    I bought a new spare from a Nissan Rogue from EBay and stow it under the rear cargo floor with no problem. The jack and other items are in a small duffel bag carried aft. I did not test clearances on the front as I will not use it on a front axle. Clearances are OK on the rear.
    Mr. Mitsubishi - Would you consider producing a number of short service videos for the DIY community, and those who don't have easy access to a Mitsubishi shop? The service videos I'd like to see are engine oil and filter change, CVT fluid and filter change (including cooler filter, pan and gasket), front and rear differential fluid change and transfer case fluid change. Please include part numbers and tools required.

    This actually a huge mistake of Mitsubishi for not adding a spare tire where it should be a standard to all cars for safety reasons..We should not be thinking at this point where we can buy a spare tire etc.or does the spare tire were going to buy is exactly the same hub or lug size etc, in other words, its headache to all buyers not until they found out that it has no spare tire available in this vehicle..Sad to say ,this is a deal breaker, i love this new outlander design, i love everything about this new generation ,it's sad why they didnt include a spare tire, its unbelievable...Btw, those plate mat underneat that you removed is useless now: (

      I agree, the spare tire would be nice to have form the factory! However, quite a few brands do the same.. Tesla is the best example for this.. No spare tire and they don't even provide you with any type of sealant and compressor.. At least with Outlander there is a way to get it done.

    Thanks for the great video! While I agree with everyone that there should be a spare tire here, I would offer two observations:
    First, keep that tire sealant system on hand even if you get the spare tire. Sometimes a driver doesn't keep a lug nut key handy (either stolen from a glove box, lost, or left at home), needed in order to change the tire. Sometimes the driver has a bad back, or is weak, etc., and can't lift the spare tire or the old tire. Sometimes a lug nut is frozen or rounded/damaged and it can only be removed in a shop.
    Second observation, for those who blame Mitsubishi for giving tire sealant instead of a spare: compared to at least one company that did provide a spare tire, Mitsubishi almost deserves a medal. For consider this: A way, way worse thing to do is to give with the new car a spare tire and a short custom lug nut wrench that doesn't let you apply enough leverage to actually remove high-torque-installed lug nuts. That's what happened to me with my Mazda years ago. I'm a strong heavy dude, and no matter how I pushed, stood, or stomped on the little wrench, it wouldn't budge the high-torqued nuts that Mazda later put on. So I talked to the dealership manager and said "That's unsafe. Your customers could be stranded out in the middle of nowhere, unable to use the spare with this Mazda tool." He agreed. I said they shouldn't use so much torque that the tool they provided for that purpose can't loosen it. He said the law requires that much torque. I asked him to trade the little wrench for one long enough to loosen a high-torqued lug nut. He refused. I said they should contact all customers about this safety issue. He said they absolutely will not do that. I said all customers who were given the uselessly short wrench should be allowed to trade it in for a long enough one. He said it will never happen. I repeated that it's dangerous, potentially life or death if a flat tire happens out on a lonely country road. He in effect shrugged. Nothing. The end. Three cheers for that spare tire for unknowing customers, right? When I see people blaming Mitsubishi, granted with some justification, for just giving the tire sealant system, this is what it brings to my mind. And I wonder how many other companies have done that or might still be doing that.
    Edit: For reasons given in my first observation, I am inclined to think that car manufacturers that do give spare tires with their vehicles should also give a quality tire sealant system. Sometimes a spare tire will be the only practical solution; sometimes sealant will be the only practical solution.

    • @mr.mitsubishi
      @mr.mitsubishi  2 года назад +2

      Thank you for sharing your opinion on this Luke. I agree, both would be the best to have. I mean, if you have a small puncture and you don't want to be bothered, sealant will do the job. And if the damage is too severe - spare tire is the way to go. Tesla doesn't even provide cars with sealants (has to be purchased separately).. At least Mitsubishi gives something and there is a way to add the spare tire afterwards.. I hope Mitsubishi brings spare tire at least as an option customers can select from the factory if they wish (with proper tools in the car).

      @@RRr-yl8zr Like I said, I'm all for having a spare tire, but sometimes temporary sealant might have to be used. It's good to know that some shops might refuse to fix tires that had that sealant in them. It would be good to get more data on that. Cars are messy to work on; how many are being picky about that? About the shops inflating tires with flammable gas, do they really badly want to do that? Shops that I went to never had a problem with using plain air. One other question that comes to mind when I read your post is that if "driving your SUV like an SUV" means driving it over sharp rocks and sticks, then another question that's implied is whether one spare tire is enough? If there are lots of sharp rocks and sticks, because we want to drive an SUV lots like an SUV (right?), how many spares would be enough? Thanks in advance, and if I misunderstand you, please correct me. Best wishes.

      @@lukewadel3675 There were "a couple of reasons why tire shops do not like and some would not work on tires with "fix a flat sealant" it got liquid sticky , gummy stuff all of their equipemet and theselves. The other "main reason" was because the propellent in those tire sealant cans Was Flamable and could blow up while they were trying to work on the tire. They Really did Not like that! I think some manufacturers have been trying to switch over non flamable propelents. The other problem with them is that they are only good for temporarily "fixing" a minor flat like just having a "nail or something in the tire, and running down the street to get it fixed. And they don't work so good at that, you'd better run for the tire store. I also was with someone desperate, unprepared and "had to" try a can of that stuff. It did not remotely put anywhere near close enough to refil the tire. If you are out "camping, out "off roading/ 4x4ing.. wait, All wheel driving" :-)) and your tire goes out with a larger rupture forget about a can of sealant, it is not going to do anything. You should have an actual Sturdy spare tire on your SUV if you even remotely, softly use it "off road". And if you get in an area where you start popping your tires. You back up. Change your tire, and go no farther. When you go down a dirt road, and especially if you go down a "rough, not well maintained dirt road/trail" you know... Like what SUV's are Made For. you need a GOOD STURDY spare tire! and if you are not going to be doing that and you just drive down paved roads What the heck are you buying a SUV for and putting up with their poorer/bad Ride, Handling, gas mileage for?? When You go out exploring, "4x4ing, camping, etc down "dirt roads" You never know what you are going to encounter and are going to encounter things that can an will "pop your tires" Trust me, I have even destroyed tires just going "camping/picnicing down dirt road you can and I was taking Sedans. Down. You Want to have Proper Spare Tire. But you are right, I have seen "maniac hard core 4x4 people that do have 2 spare tires! 😅 But Almost all people with SUV's will Not be doing that stuff.

    I was able to get an 18" aluminum alloy wheel and a "real" street tire (235/60R18) that is the same size(diameter) from top to bottom for $265. I also purchased a small 2-ton floor jack from Autozone for around $100. This is less than the spare tire kit Mitsubishi sells for over $400. Even with the real spare tire and floor jack, my Outlander still averages 29.4 mpg driving in normal mode. It's sad that Mitsubishi doesn't include a spare. The sales rep where I bought it said it's for the mileage. Really? What a bunch of bull. The Outlander window tag says 32 mpg highway, and 26 mpg city. Long story short, I won't be stranded on the side of the road waiting for Mitubishi assistance, I'll be able to put my spare on and continue on my way. The only thing I was not able to do is put the spare in the tire well in back because there is a bass speaker there from the factory, so it lays behind the 2nd row of seats. If I should ever need the 3rd row, I can just stand the tire up in the back temporarily.

    So to the people that said it was a success, I've got a question. I work at a Mitsu dealer. We just bought an 18" spare for a 2003-2015 Murano and tried to bolt it on a 2022 Outlander. Without even mounting the tire once you bolt on the rim the front brake caliper rubbed on the inside of the wheel. Now the 22 we tried has the OEM 20" wheels on it. There's no way this wheel can be used as a spare. Perhaps Canadian Vehicles are different that the ones sold in the States.

    • @mr.mitsubishi
      @mr.mitsubishi  2 года назад +1

      Hey guys at Daytona Mitsubishi! :) Thank you for dropping a comment! It's weird.. One thing that comes to mind - maybe it was the wrong size of the tire you somehow ended up getting..? We also tried this on a 22 Outlander with OEM 20" wheels on it. There are some feature and trim level differences between countries but I don't believe in terms of bolt pattern, off set, brake placement Canadian vehicles are different form US.. Either way, I think a good lesson - before trusting it as a spare tire, test it if it actually works! (worked for us, I actually drove the Outlander around on the spare).

    • @idigbebop
      @idigbebop 2 года назад +1

      So, Daytona Mitsu, you say you test fit the Murano wheel on the front. And Mr. Mitsu test drove a rear installation. Without verifying you both had the same tire sizes, this workaround may only work on the rear. However there must be a solution, with a size that fits both. I wonder if the 21/2022 Rogue spare would be a better option. Anyway, my sincere thank you to the Canadian dealer Salesman Mr. Mitsubishi who continues to try and solve this puzzle. Would there ever be a chance to get the Australian parts ordered for us North American customers ? My Mitsubishi dealer on the west coast of Florida has not been helpful at all. Just not at all serious about offering a solution before I purchase this vehicle.

    • @rickg.5144

      It will rub slightly on the front caliper. But…Spare tires are meant to be used on the rear. If you get a front flat, change with a rear tire and put the spare in the back. Heavy engine and front braking force should always have a full size tire on fronts.

I think I would have appreciated it more If I saw you put the other tire in that compartment. You would not have had to drive the car. The tire you put in the compartment looked like a "donut," which usually is considerably smaller than the factory tire.. Thanks.

    Thing is people need to understand is that the decision to omit the spare tire wasn’t actually Mitsubishi’s decision but Nissan as this is a Nissan platform from the Rogue since older Outlanders all had a spare tire of some sort.
    I do agree having a spare tire is something that should have been federally mandated decades ago but I digress. Even though I would prefer a spare, got me the Safety Seal tire repair kit since I have the PHEV version (which cannot pull this trick off) and most mechanics I know have in their trucks this tire repair kit and they all swear by that stuff so gives some piece of mind to at least get to a mechanic or dealer to get a proper repair or replacement tire.

That's not a solution at all that we have to purchase a tire and jack for our brand new vehicle. Mitsubishi should cover that. It's sorta a big deal. • @mr.mitsubishi
      @mr.mitsubishi  2 года назад +2

      Total diameter of the tire is basically the same. The wheel is smaller but the spare tire is much thicker - gives you the same height. Also, the purpose of the spare tire is to basically get you to the closest tire shop or home safely. It's not meant for high speeds, long drives etc. When I drove around to test it, couldn't tell the difference (but that's low speeds, city driving).

    I confused about spare tire , regular murano size is 235/6518 spare size is different.
    All these solutions are just to get to tire shop , driving with with spare might kill your differential.
    You will hear this humming noise on awd cars . Awd needs all tires same size , even same brand .
    I made mistake of putting different brand on the front and 2 different on the back , same size . Rear differential recognized the difference on my Murano . Rear diff broke.

    • @mr.mitsubishi

      The idea of the spare tire is quite simple - it helps you to get to the closest tire shop so you can repair or replace your damaged tire. It wont' damage anything if you driving it for that purpose.

      @@ofcbob6391 I guess what I should say or ask is: Don't you need a different size tire? So you are winding up with two different tires on your vehicle. Why not just get an original wheel for the vehicle? And then worry about how much space it takes up. FYI I do have the SE with 20" wheels, just as he shows. I just don't like the way it looks. That fancy spare tire would be a quick fix. Get the flat fixed asap. Easier to just pump up the flat long enough to get to a repair facility.
