    • @jamescoughlan8193

      most Martial arts have something to offer, but best try doing a few , Brazilian jijitsu for grappling , Muay thai for stand up striking and of course western boxing has plenty to offer, do a few different ones and pick the bits which suit your personal needs and your flexibility , shape and fitness.

  • @tylermohr25
    @tylermohr25 8 лет назад

    when you go to turn your openent after they throw a front kick, you can also just parry the kick instead of catching it, it's faster for me at least and I don't have to worry about getting grabbed for a clinch from catching a kick. Then proceed to a back thigh kick, back kick or back hook.
    if someone turns you, use the momentum to throw a spinning backhand. Won't stop a kick but it could make them flinch and Jack up the strike they would've thrown.

    • @fighttips
      @fighttips  8 лет назад +1

      +Tyler Mohr You mentioned what I was going to answer with! Great point: the parry also works and I use that a lot, too. But like you said, you have to be wary of that spinning backfist counter like Nieky Holzken used against L'Houcine Ouzgni (11:10): ruclips.net/video/9ibsaK7EPDU/видео.html

    I wouldn't say this is entirely not for beginners. The catch to sweep isn't that difficult once you teach the beginner to focus on breaking the posture, rather than the sweep itself. Sweeps were one of the first things I learned to get right with leg catches.
    Also, Shane, if you could somehow get a lesson with Liam Harrison, you'd be very impressed with his ability to teach. I did a seminar with him and learned so much in a short space of time. There's also the fact he's considered the #1 Muay Thai farang, if that helps his credentials at all.

      2.chin close to ur butterfly
      3.teeth tight
      4.Hands up and strong so if u get hit in the hands they dont hit ur face
      5.practice 1.2 punches like jab cross and follow up with like a hook
      6.learn some basic kicks like front kick in the stomach or head
      7.sidekick more advanced ppl dont know what hits them

    A lot of these are taught in karate.
    Which brings me to my next point: Martial arts that work generally look similar to one another, with the main difference being technique preferences. Train karate like you would Muay Thai, and it'll look similar.

    • @alittlepuertoricanboy1993
      @alittlepuertoricanboy1993 8 лет назад

    • @imagzz4942
      @imagzz4942 8 лет назад +1

      +Nick Vázquez No they aren't, atleast not in my gym. Karate has 80% focus on the arms, hands and just in general punching. Sometimes kicking defense like these are tought, but that's pretty rare.

    • @alittlepuertoricanboy1993
      @alittlepuertoricanboy1993 8 лет назад +4

      +iMagZ z I've done Goju ryu, and I've been taught these. Only thing I've never learned was ground game.

      What ever martial art you interested in but Muay Thai would be good to start in. Like me you're tall and wit long limbs. in the clinch you can use your height to kinda lean on the shorter opponent while in the clinch. Long arms = reach advantage over most people and good jabs and straight punches. long legs = mean, powerful kicks and being able to use the front kick and teeps to keep your opponent at bay much like how the jab is used in boxing and if your opponent runs into your teeps they might get the wind knocked out of them. So yea muay thai for sure.

      I prefer taking the kick on the stomach, while sliding backwards. This was you know for sure it's actually a kick, and not a feint (because if you drop your hands to catch like he demonstrates, you expose your face).
