@@CEH477 Yes, sadly, I've heard those accounts made by Matlin. I think Hurt maybe did apologize for his actions towards her, but it was still unfortunate. Always enjoyable to watch William Hurt. Especially liked him in the underrated film Mr Brooks where he played the physical manifestation of Kevin Costner's' serial killer subconscious. What a hoot!

natedogg- I also liked his performance in Runaway Train. I still love that line- "I'm worse than an Animal. I'm Human." I do think it is interesting that he is a right wing Guy now ( I don't know how right wing he was then), but both Runaway Train and "Coming HOme" were Left=Wing. films. Runaway Train is about Prisoners and it takes a sympatheitic look at them. I would say that is liberal.

Love it when Sally Field made fun of her own joke in accepting her Oscar the year before.
And look at the women these nominees brought with them! All Oscar winners: William Hurt dated Marlee Matlin (the following year's winner), Jack Nicholson dated Anjelica Huston (the winner earlier that nite), and Jon Voight brought along his daughter, Angelina Jolie (a winner herself 14 years later from the night of the ceremony).
    Incredible!

And this is where the misconception of Sally Field's infamous speech came from. In the original, she said only "you like me, right now, YOU LIKE ME!". But as one can see here, the following year Field prefaced her remarks by saying "let's see which one you like, you really, really like.". She never said "really" in her original speech.

    • @lascreen3198

She's mocking her own speech from the year before...repeating "you really like." She didn't say in this clip, "Let's see who you like...right now."

+SJB1717 Bullshit to both of you. Voight chewed up the scenery in that movie and nearly choked on it. He was almost as embarrassing as Nicholson in Prizzi's Honor. Hands down you say? William Hurt was splendid in KOTSW and he deserved his Oscar HANDS DOWN. His costar Raul Julia should have been nominated too along with Sean Penn in The Falcon and the Snowman in place of those two hambones Voight and Nicholson.

It was Voight's best role. Completely different from every performance he had given before. He was near the end of his Golden Boy persona and Runaway Train launched him into the 2nd phase of his career.
