William Hurt Complete Life Story: (History and Nostalgia) 1950 - 2022
William Hurt, WAS a leading man of 1980s Hollywood who rose to stardom as a cocky lawyer in “Body Heat,” .HE won an Oscar for playing a gay man jailed under a South American dictatorship in “Kiss of the Spider Woman” and later established himself as a versatile, mold-breaking character actor. After attending the famed Juilliard School, where he was classmates with Robin Williams and Christopher Reeve, Hurt made his professional debut on stage in 1977.
Hurt also appeared in more than 100 screen roles, making his film debut in the 1980 psychedelic horror film “Altered States,” playing an obsessed scientist whose experiments with sensory deprivation lead him to turn into a primeval, apelike creature. The next year, he delivered his breakout performance in director Lawrence Kasdan’s neo-noir thriller “Body Heat,” as a South Florida lawyer seduced by Kathleen Turner and roped into murdering her husband.

William Hurt was my favorite actor. Soul-stirring performances, his deep, intense aura, and alluring voice are unforgettable. I watched many of Hurt’s films on video after release as I was too young for rated R. Kiss of the Spider Woman still makes me sigh, laugh, cry. ❤

I love the way you described William Hurts acting.
You expressed my thoughts much better than I.
I always got a feeling of restraint in a William Hurt performance.
      Yet he exuded so much..
      A truly fascinating Actor .
I'm glad I come from an era when, like literature, it was important to us.
      Thank you❤

I haven’t seen many of his films, but I just saw him as Ahab in Moby Dick and it reminded me of how much I respected his work in some of this hit movies. I then watched The Yellow Handkerchief, and my opinion was confirmed. He just disappears in the role, and I love that! I saw Judd Hirsch disappear in a local production of The Grapes of Wrath, and it just does something to the audience. Time stands still. The theater itself is erased from consciousness! It’s the real magic of storytelling!

Thank you for your composite story about WIlliam Hurt. " Kiss of the Spiderwoman" stands out; he was outstanding. Too bad their personal relationships end up front and centre; imo, he was a genius and they are difficult for anyone to live with. Again good work

Like so many, William Hurt and DeNiro were my favorite Actors as an 80s High Schooler which I acted quite a bit...into College years and beyond.
Maybe not the best word to use but both were so... genuinely convincing.
Consumed in character to a level that this young actor, me, became a musician Instead.
The Big Chill- he was my fave. Paid to seee it twice - the 2nd time paid for 4 of us after raving anout the film to prove my point.
" I was never hung up on the whole competition thing.."
    That delivery!
Altered States & Body Heat - 16 year old me and HBO-( thanks Dad(..
I watched both at least 20 times each.
    His delivery, mannerisms...
To me it felt like he was holding something back... ...while at the same time giving everything to the scene, the character.
Playing off of Holly Hunter ( another supreme actor of course) Iin Broadcast News..?
I had 2 new Acting heroes after seeing it the 1st or 20th time, Hurt & Holly..
I know everybody' knows about what great performances William Hurt gave.
My thoughts are a grain of sand in the final analysis.
I've enjoyed reading others appreciations .
    About time I expressed mine.
RIP & Thank You WILLIAM HURT ❤🎉

When he moved to our small community in central oregon with his family, some of the local ladies at first acted like they had no sense, lol. He used to come to the golf course during the quiet time of the weekdays and rent a hand cart, and head out to play nine to eighteen holes. Hours later he'd come back into the bar, return the cart and order a large orange juice. He was very quiet, and we rarely spoke much. When a member came in for refreshments, i noticed Mr. Hurt would avoid eye contact with them or begin reading a paper until the member left. I actually felt bad for the man. One day three high school teachers came in and sat at their usual table in between rounds. I loved these guys. They were funny, intellegent, truly nice guys. Nothing much fazed them.. i saw these educators go from respected authority figures to three giddy little boys when they realized who was sitting at the bar. They were on Mr. Hurt like white on rice. He was very polite to the guys and they were in awe. After they went back on the course to finish their remaining holes, Mr. Hurt sat back down and finished his juice. It occured to me that these celebs give up too much. It was said by some that this man was anti social, and thought himself above everyone else. Thats not what i saw. Can you imagine not being able to go ito a restaurant or a grocery store, or even a remote golf course, and not being able to drink a glass of juice in peace? No thanks. The U.S. Mint doesnt print enough money.

He was a marvouslessly talented actor who never became famous like Deniro or Nicholson. It's hard to say he never got his due becsuse he was nominated for three Oscars in a Best Actor role winning one. But I think it fair to say he was underrated. My favorite film was Children Of A Lessor God. You are missed William.
