    The legs normally go on the outer side of the table! ✨ Check out my newest IKEA HACK with the MALM nightstand here!

    That's and interesting way to put the table legs.

      Thank you for noticing - they do normally go on the outer side

    I think the legs should be installed from the outside. That's why there's a gap there. I have the same table BTW

    Was going to return mine, but after watching this I'm going to keep it and do a similar finish. Thanks

    A very nice make-over. Well done!The original owner must have put the legs on back to front, and I'm glad you now realise the error. (I must admit to an "arrh, oh no!" moment when you also put the legs back on incorrectly. Not only makes the table look like a not very good homemade effort but puts a lot of strain on the legs and brackets.)
    When put in the correct way, the legs are reinforced from movement by the ends of the understrip panels while at the same time hiding those panel ends, making it look like a proper piece of joinery.
    I look forward to your future projects.

      The funny thing is that we had to disassemble it to move it to the office and at the office we assembled it correctly 😅 oh well!!

    I think you put the legs the wrong way

    This is beautiful!
    Do you think that:
    1) this could be done in an indoor space? I don't have a garden or anything similar...
    2) if I bought it new, I could skip the sanding?
    Sorry for the dumb questions, I'm new to all this and completely clueless!

    • @Craftydust
      @Craftydust  4 месяца назад +1

      1) It's best to do it in an outdoor space because of all the particles and fumes that you'll inhale. But if this is not an option, at least make sure your working room is well ventilated.
      2) You'd still have to remove the protective layer as manufactured from IKEA. If you skip it, your painting job will not last long :)
      If you prefer to skip sanding, you could leave the top as is and lightly sand and paint only the legs. You don't have to remove the whole protective layer if you're painting.
      Good luck ✨

    Hi Daphne! Thank you so much for your videos! I have an Ingo table and that’s how I found you! This thing is not treated and so stained, but still in good shape. I use it as the table for my condo. That’s the size of a shoe it doubles as a kitchen and work table. I don’t know if there is an answer to this, but I would love to do what you just did, but keep that light color on the top of the table - how would I do that and also protect the table? I’m less than a beginner, I don’t know what I’m doing, and I feel like stains, always make it darker - do you have any tips for me? Thanks so much.❤

      Hi Tara, thank you for your kind words 🥰 you don't have to stain it, you can use a polyurethane top just for protection ✨ have a look at Minwax water-based polycrylic. We don't have it in Cyprus but that's what I'd use if I were in your shoes. I've seen it doesn't yellow the wood (like polyurethane does)! Good luck with your project 💕

    When you stain wood, are you protecting the surface with anything afterwards? Something like a poly top coat? I worry that with only a stain and no sealer the wood may still be easy to damage.

    • @Craftydust
      @Craftydust  3 года назад +1

      The wood stain I am using already has poly in it and it gives a matte finish that I personally really like! This desk is only used for light use (computer, keyboard, etc.) so I didn't find any reason to use a top coat but for extra protection and depending on the use of the surface you can, of course, apply a poly top coat!
