The only thing about this approach that bugs me is the assumption that fiber creates satiety. It is one of the four factors that goes into figuring their "satiety scores" for any given food. Being bloated =/= being satiated. I think a lot of people are so used to the veggie bloat that they confuse it with felling full. Real satiety is found in an animal foods based (or exclusively carnivore) diet.

I've been eating fairly strict carnivore for months, and less strict carnivore for almost 2 years. Yesterday, I was expecting company and bought some apples. I ate one last night and honestly feel miserable right now. I forgot what bloat felt like, and being reminded I don't like it at all. On top of that, my hunger cravings are no longer well controlled. There's a very high chance I give that bag of apples to the neighbors, but for sure I won't be buying any more. If my guest comes round again, she can eat hamburgers along with me.

@@craigslitzer4857 Yep, some people say that going carnivore makes your digestive system weak and hyper sensitive, unable to handle some fiber. I say that what happens is you get used to actually feeling great and therefore you notice it, like you are feeling today, when something is off. If you eat veg all the time, that feeling sort of off is just your baseline "normal".

I had to chuckle as I learned the details of higher satiety eating. In a good way.
I eat high(ish) protein (25%?), low(ish) carbs (zero refined carbs, zero grains; But I do have: sweet potatoes, pumpkin, lotus root, bananas, blueberries, etc.), no processed food, consume at least 30 different vegetables in any given week, and eat just two meals a day (AM + afternoon). I get hungry at night, but it is not especially bothersome. I hardly notice it. I already lost all the weight I need to lose, and with this eating pattern I can easily maintain it, and I eat until I am quite full each time. No restrictions on quantities, just on TYPES of food I can eat. I don’t count calories, but to be fair, I eat a lot of vegetables that are low in calories. But to be honest, I never think about the calories at all.
I had never heard of “higher satiety eating” but you just described how I already eat. It’s working quite well for me.

With respect, Doctor, Why are you pushing so hard on this? Are you looking for newness? If that's the case, it's not working. If calories-in calories-out are not that important, why trying to find a formula to reduce calories? If proteins, fats and fiber are the best to make us feel satiated, what would you want me to reduce? Fats? Back to the 80's. Proteins? Fiber? If you ask me, eat low carb, protein, healthy fats, fiber, and low glycemic vegetables, especially those rich in phytonutrients. Why are you going back to calories? This is confusing.

Speaking of philosophy, start with, "Eat real food." One way to define real food is to ask if anyone was eating it 300 years ago.
Paleo fans probably would change the timeframe to 12,000 years ago, but I think even 300 is a huge improvement over eating "foods" invented since the industrial revolution.

I've learned that not being shy when you're with others about how you've changed your habits will take a lot of pressure off. They (hopefully) won't be constantly offering you sweet things. Then really taking care of your hunger with keto foods before you get to any desserts being passed around, and having your own keto desserts available, helps a lot.

Or was that what you were getting at anyway??? The only fiber I want in me is the fiber that passed 3 times through a cows tummy and turned into steak. :)

That would depend, as always. In my case, it falls on the absolutely Verboten part of the scale. Sugar free peanut butter fattens me up like there is no tomorrow. It is a trigger food. Don't forget that peanut butter is essentially oil with a few contaminants. One hundred grams of peanut butter is about 600 kcal and that is pretty much the case for all oil seeds and nuts.

If one’s relationship with carbs is not out of control then Zone offers variety and steers clear of SAD. But if one is the type where carbs come with addiction then keto/carnivore, though comparatively restrictive, might be the only way.
