Very well done Kenny. What I really like is that there is no posturing - such as "here's the way it must be done because I'm so great and therefore know so much". Your approach is more like "here's what I have learned through (obviously a great deal of super high level) experience. Calm, collected and ready to make wonderful music and give rock-solid solid advice for our benefit. Always great to learn something from a real pro!
Nice series, Kenny! Yes, the difference between them is audible and as you state! Continued success with the JALC and with your small group! Loving your CD "Moon Over Babylon!"
I watched all four of the videos and look forward to putting your suggestions to work. I have recently picked the horn back up after many years, so I have a lot of work to do. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos.
I agree. Excellent lesson from an accomplished player. I especially loved the video about the mouthpiece and gear. Timing couldn't have been better as I am evaluating my equipment and considering making a change.
Excellent and humble, I agree, it is important to keep the same rim that is why all my mouthpieces are screw-remmed (expensive but as to be done). To the trumpeters asking about Kenny's mouthpiece what works for him may not work for you try and find one that works for you.
Awesome vidoes! There is a lot of great information here. Just out of curiosity: in this video you talk about having two specific mouthpieces you play on. Do you spend a majority of practice time on one or the other, or do you specifically focus on one and the other just sort of falls into line when you need it?
A mouthpiece to make the job of playing high and having with a brighter and more piercing sound much easier than if you were to play with a deeper cup, which would tire you out quicker and the sound is much darker which isn’t appropriate for a lead player in a big band setting (in most situations)

For people asking about mouthpieces...those moutpieces are Schilke Blanks. Schilke Symphony and Schilke Heavyweight.
Thank you for the video and the subtle details regarding you mp. Cheers!
