We have it from a very good source that Wynton openly commented that once Ryan showed up with his LOTUS Classic and LOTUS mouthpiece he gained accuracy, endurance and range.....AND stopped bringing a second horn to shows for his soloing spots. Don't know what else we can do top that comment coming from the master himself.
It made me smile when he chose the bronze slide. Ryan Kisor is my favorite trumpet player and I look up to his playing a lot and I used to take trumpet lessons with Jonah Moss and he would tell me how Ryan's sound is not a laser but more like a warm blanket that fills up the entire room with how wide his sound is. That's the type of sound I want to get and try to imitate in my trumpet playing. Ryan sounds amazing on these horns can't wait to hear what he does with it.
I prefer Ryan's trumpet. It sounds better although it gives the feeling that it costs a little more to pass the air. Perhaps the best Olds trumpet left alive.
Right..? It is truly nuts how much of a difference the alloy choice of the tuning slide matters. We used to mess around with a bunch of options on the leadpipes alloys and dimensions (I won't bore you with the details) but we've come to realize that the mouthpiece alloy and tuning slide alloy make a much much more immediate/quantifiable difference for everyone including Rapa. The are very simple options that do not require taking apart the horn or having to order a different model that GREATLY affect the "blow/feel/sound". Lead players are drawn to Nickel Silver, Orchestral players prefer Brass with a few liking Bronze. Jazz solo or players who live in a more flexible musical context prefer Bronze with a few liking Brass.
I envy these guys that make everything look easy. It must be great to have the perfect embouchure. I’ve had to deal with an imperfect one for sixty years😢
@@da11king when I was in my prime about 40- 55 yrs. I was fine but I only needed and the same goes today, a high C. I play sacred music and I always had great sound and now I’ve had braces and everything is lined up. I’m 72 now and it’s not so easy even though I’m in really good shape for my age. I’ll keep being patient and practice with good technique and hopefully it will all come together. Thanks for the reply!
Both horns sound wonderful, though to be fair, these two could sound great on a bored out broomstick. Could be the angle of the mic, but I do prefer Ryan's original horn sound.
Maybe a long shot, but does anyone know the solo that Mr. Kisor is playing when comparing the different trumpets? I've got it stuck in my head all week, so I wanted to find perhaps a recording of it.
He does. This video was the very first moments of Adam handing Ryan his Classic. We just sent Ryan another batch of mouthpieces this week as we work with him to perfect the recipe.
Often the choice is between ease of playing and sound. Ryan’s horn sounds better. The Lotus seems like it’s the easier one but the sound is noticeably brighter. If all you do is play high notes in a commercial setting, then the Lotus might be the way to go.
to be honest that guy's Bb is probably one of the best traditional Bb trumpets I've heard in a while, wonderful sound. liked the lotus too.
Kind of wondering what it is 😅 - sounds a bit easier for someone not as good as these guys to control
@@charliecampbell6851 it kind of looks like a bach Bb with a reverse leadpipe/tuning slide on it to me, not sure though
@@charliecampbell6851 I remember reading somewhere that it’s a shilke Faddis model
Not a fan of Lotus but that Lotus is far better than the other horn.

They have command of the horn that I can only dream of.
the switch to the nickel pipe on the lotus is what sealed the deal -- incredible sound

Great Adam and Ryan. I hear Ryan in Jazz Club Torino. Two great player.
Ryan´s trumpet sounds way better!! Keep it!
Both players got chops! I wanna learn that repertoire!
No joke!
What is Ryan's original horn?
Two incredible players

Did you ever achieve decent range with an imperfect embouchure?

Mendizorrotza Swing
Both players sound great on both horns 🤓
God almighty if I could just have a lesson with Adam Rapa 😅🎺🔥
How comes Ryan doesn’t play a Lotus mouthpiece? Would it not work better with the Lotus Classic?

I'd give a kidney to play like him
switching from one to another like crazy but I couldn't hear any difference
Killer players
Guys what does Ryan play on now? I have seen him play a Schilke Faddis model but that horn doesn’t look like a Schilke to me
Ryan is playing the LOTUS Classic model now.
Thanks Adam my apologies I meant what trumpet was his own one in the video when comparing to the Lotus.
Was a Bach
@@pik1andlik1 Thank you Ryan… huge fan of your playing have been for years.
Jesus those guys can rip
adam play 1L? 2M?
Adam plays a 2M in Nickel Silver and a 2XL2 in Brass most of the time

Does anyone know what kind of leather single trumpet case that is sitting half-open on the table there?

Ryan’s better than that horn.
