the author of this book's kid actually went to my middle school, we graduated the same year. She was close and knew the our principal and had an assembly just for this book. Our school is separated into 'majors' called talents where you have to audition to get in. They had a couple of drama talent kids act out a scene and it was the most awkward thing ever. She kept going on about how her book was super diverse and that she would 'talk' to her characters in her mind out loud and disguised it as talking to someone on the phone. And then she and our principal encouraged the students to by the book and she would sign it for them.

yeah the thing about sentimental fiction is that you have to be really good at showing and not telling, and be able to hit the right tone with nuanced writing. i'm sure the author had good intentions with writing a gay muslim character, but i think she was pandering way too much that he became a caricature. it's a tough barrier for authors to pull off writing the experiences of character with a different race & sexual orientation tho. 🤷

Bruh, I read her book If I Stay, and that was a good book. But the second book to it, Where She Went, is literally I Have Lost my Way. Mia runs to New York, Adam is a famous rock-star, and they only have one night together and they fall back in love, even though Mia told him she hated him for making her stay alive. it’s a trip. And the writing is so bad.
'I was not angry, I was just sad that you had lost your way'- Uncle Iroh That was literally the only thing I could think about when I was watching the video. And how true it was for the author
Ahhhhh....a refreshing rant video to lighten up my day because even your negative feedback about this book can make me feel oh sooo happy and have me laughing my ass off. (yes I didn't use 'lmao')
While I enjoyed If I Stay by Gayle Forman, I haven't really enjoyed some of her other books and don't really feel like picking up more from her and based on this review, I'll be staying away from this book. Oh god, the repetitiveness. LOL when you mentioned that you'd be dead if that was a drinking game xD
I haven't read any of Gayle Forman's other books but I think based on this one her sentimental writing is prob just not my style. The repetition killed me a lot 💀 however I would be interested to hear why you enjoyed her other book!
I read this psychology article on the development of NPD in children, and came across this line: "John, a brilliant and successful man with a Narcissistic Personality Disorder, told me that he was coming to therapy because he knew that had lost his way." So I feel attacked.
I recently read A Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult and this review is so relatable because in A Spark of Light, it happened to be having so many repetitions as well. But I gotta give credit to the message of the book and the discussion made regarding the topic (even though it was keep being repeated that I was truly bored and hoping to get to the ending of it). Also, I had a lot of fun watching this video and glad that I didn't pick it up lol.

if i make more rant videos from now on i'll be sure to include recommendations for better books. i think it's a good way to highlight other stories that are more worthy of your time!
What?! I love the hair!
“Never try anything. Ever.” Need that on a mug ✨☕️✨
'I was not angry, I was just sad that you had lost your way'- Uncle Iroh
That was literally the only thing I could think about when I was watching the video. And how true it was for the author
Ahhhhh....a refreshing rant video to lighten up my day because even your negative feedback about this book can make me feel oh sooo happy and have me laughing my ass off. (yes I didn't use 'lmao')
the nice thing about booktube is that now i can turn my suffering into entertainment
“Don’t lose your way!”
Sapphire, singer, Kill la Kill ending
While I enjoyed If I Stay by Gayle Forman, I haven't really enjoyed some of her other books and don't really feel like picking up more from her and based on this review, I'll be staying away from this book.
Oh god, the repetitiveness. LOL when you mentioned that you'd be dead if that was a drinking game xD
I haven't read any of Gayle Forman's other books but I think based on this one her sentimental writing is prob just not my style. The repetition killed me a lot 💀 however I would be interested to hear why you enjoyed her other book!
I love the rant videos
You can write a good one day love story. They both die at the end is a good example of a decent story that takes place over a day
I read this psychology article on the development of NPD in children, and came across this line:
"John, a brilliant and successful man with a Narcissistic Personality Disorder, told me that he was coming to therapy because he knew that had lost his way."
So I feel attacked.
Also, I had a lot of fun watching this video and glad that I didn't pick it up lol.
oh danggg a spark of light is actually on my TBR too
@@withcindy oh dang but maybe it doesn't have I have lost my way being repeated throughout the book 😂 Idk why I'm encouraging you but I'm desperate for another rant review hahaha
your hair is so pretty!!
i've bleached it so many times that it's dead AF, thank you for the kind words though 😂
