Yeah, that's why I avoid re-writes. Also, I think the publishers' standards get lowered because they see a handy way to market it to all the "Austen" fans out there.
Same, I believe people forget that Jane Austen isn't just romance. Hell, most of her books are just women dealing with how the patriarchy makes their lives harder and the love interest is just thrown there, although well written. Pride and Prejudice's WHOLE PLOT was because the Bennets would be kicked off Longbourn once their father passed away, and HALF of the drama of that book was that the only two men that could make good husbands for them, Darcy and Bingley, would never traditionally marry them - because they are poor, scandalous, unorthodox, etc. If you can't see the story past the romance, then what's the point even retelling it?

I cannot convey to you Cindy how much respect I have for you for being able to review these books so in depth. This is most definitely due to the miserable fact that I am absolutely awful at focusing on reading and yet also zone out too much with audiobooks, so I skim read and miss over half the details and have to go back to clarify what happened. This is definitely the reason that I was so confused when you mentioned the Grisha trilogy. Read with Cindy just read the hell out of these books.
indeed i did
IM DECEASED YOU PREDICTED NETFLIX WOULD REACH OUT KSSKSKSKSKSK I LOVE THIS 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 get that bag Cindy!!!!
Cindy over here blessing my nasty 2020. Not all heroes wear capes
i do what i must
cindy really kept her promise with the whole shadow and bone thing
I want you to read The Cruel Prince trilogy so bad, I can’t even imagine what your thoughts would be
I cannot convey to you Cindy how much respect I have for you for being able to review these books so in depth. I am 1000% certain that I barely absorbed anything that happened except what interested me (e.g. pretty people and gorey fight scenes), so my brain automatically loved almost every single character I came across and saw almost no fault. I am starting to realize that maybe oversharing to strangers could be a toxic trait but who has time for studying and working on concerning behavior and working on self loathing? Great video as always Cindy
Forgot you read the grisha trilogy early 2019, there's been so much booktwitter drama since then it feels like years ago
Good God ur right
I'm a month late but links? 👀
@@7thsense97 I don't have any links to the tweets but here's some vids that talk about some of the different dramas

I always appreciate the fact that these great booktubers read all these bad books so I don’t have to. I also always appreciate Cindy’s jokes and sense of humor. Which means, basically, that this video is great :D
I’m so proud about how much Cindy has grown ❤️❤️
Thanks so much Amanda 🥺
the good thing about the grisha netflix adaptation is that it's not just the shadow and bone characters, so although you may have to promote alinas bland ass, you also have kaz and inej and jesper to get hype about
I feel like the show will improve the grisha trilogy characters but I'm not sure about six of crows yet 🥺
@@withcindy nothing to improve on six of crows lol
FAIRYSMUT
that's it.
That's the comment
that's my life
@@withcindy the only reason I'm waiting on the next book is because of your reviews. Because let's be honest, my dislectic ass isn't going to read that.
@@zombified_bee ❤
@@123biler thank uu
11:48 we love a queen that sticks to her word. Get that coin, girl.
If I go to heaven I hope I hear the exes and ohs rant on my way there
No that's when u go to hell
Is it sad that I’ve gotten so used to YA protagonists being so annoying and dislikable that it doesn’t even bother me anymore?
i'm eating nutella from a big ass jar and watching this, pretending my life isn't burning down around me and this is peak 2020™
bless u, cindy, for making all this *gestures vaguely around* feel less like trash
i hope the nutella was good
@@withcindy almost as good as watching you roast books for 20 mins
But, I seriously love how you described the romance as a "Love Square."
...
I'M DYING! THAT IS PERFECT! That is the most accurate thing ever!
Real talk, if you've written a book about young people who are raised to be organ harvested and ur name's not Kazuo Ishiguro, well. Good luck lmao.
Never Let Me Go was emotionally traumatizing in the best way possible
“I don’t think anyone who reads romance deserves right.”
I read almost exclusively romance and this made me cackle! 💀💀
I'm halfway through Shadow and Bone right now, and this book is so anime it hurts lol. I do like it, I just wish we had gotten the story from literally any other perspective besides Alina. Like, I get being insecure about yourself, but this is just painful to read.
I'm binging Cindy's videos because depression and ADHD has rendered me incapable of inhaling books with the same intensity as before and I was genuinely looking forward to reading the first two books because I love dogs and Pride and Prejudice remixes but I guess Cindy just saved me a lot of trouble. Also, I noticed you heart every comment!! Knowing you see every comment despite probably getting hundreds every day is very wholesome. We love our romantically repressed queen hate-reading and spitting facts
One year later and she is doing the fake love for shadow and bones show. We love a woman of word!
I came here to say this but in my heart knew it had been said already
@@bit-button our hearts are connected by the hate for Alina (and by the love for Jessie Mei)!
i thought she actually changed her mind 🤡😭😭 i got bamboozled
@@musasaccharomyces308 to be honest, i think she really liked. They made a great work on Alina's personality, her realationship with Mal and the casting. Much less boring!
I love the grisha trilogy but mostly for the side characters and quotes that shook me such as “what is infinite? The universe and the greed of men”
I have to say that there is better world building when you read further into the Unwind series. It also a little more in-depth in the unwinding process
I love all of your book reviews and your rants they always make my day so much better. When I am feeling really sad because I suffer from depression and and anxiety, I will watch your videos that always make me laugh. Thank you so much for being you!
I'm so glad 😊
I have so many questions about Hot Pterodactyl Boyfriend, it sounds horrifying. Like there was a pterodactyl casually walking around? Would unprotected sex result in baby pterodactyls like the donkey-dragons from Shrek??
Tati that my friend is a cursed image in my head now oh boy
OMG QUEEN UR ALMOST AT 100K. This is so amazing, been here since you and Emma colabed (I think that you had about 25k then). Look at how far you’ve come! I’m so proud of my favorite booktuber/youtuber.

Cindy when the Netflix adaptation comes out: the book was NOT better
Edit: I accidentally read unwind years ago and found the plot interesting but kinda astoundingly unbelievable.
It was really hard to hear you diss Unwind like that because it's one of my favorite series but I pushed through it😔 I still love you though Cindy
I still love u too 🥺
@@withcindy Seriously though thank you for actually explaining why you disliked it with valid reasons instead of the typical review I've seen that's usually along the lines of "oh this is unrealistic therefore it's bad"
i don’t really know anything about youtube book culture but i’ve been watching you for a month or so and i really appreciate your videos. you’ve got a really funny personality and sense of humor, and your videos make me laugh! they’re nice to watch when i’m just lying around and whatnot. thank you for your service
thank you so much! i'm glad that you are enjoying the videos :)
"Diversity doesn't mean a book is good," yes! 100% this right here!
All I remember from the Xs and Os era is that I loved your rant, loved how you suffered and I loved suffering along with you. So really, while I do hope this year brings you happiness I really look forward to suffer and despairing this year as well.💓💓💓💓
