    Schecter’s Michael Anthony signature bass has plenty in common with the prolific bassist’s playing style. Both have a reliable and rock-solid foundation for delivering the needed goods, but with a little panache here and there to keep things interesting. For Anthony fanatics who have found themselves priced out of owning one of his signature Custom Shop models, the more affordable South Korean-made Diamond Series bass harbors the sleek look and much of the underlying features of its U.S.-bred big brother, but without the eye-popping price tag.
    The subdued carbon-grey finish, matching headstock, creme binding, and black hardware on Anthony’s signature instrument give it a sleek and dangerous aura. The fretwork and finish looked impeccable when I scanned the neck and body up close, and its 9.3-pound weight made it a comfortable bass to play standing up while still feeling substantial strapped across my shoulder.
    The bass takes several cues from Schecter’s Model-T line of basses and uses them as a foundation to build on. Anthony’s model has an alder body that sports a large single-ply black pickguard. The large-bodied THD4 bridge allows for stringing through the bridge or through the body.
    For pickups, Anthony’s bass forgoes the active EMG electronics of the Model-T in favor of a USA MonsterTone P/J set controlled by the master volume, tone, and 3-way selector mounted to a Tele-style control plate. The bass’ multi-ply maple and walnut neck is capped with a bound 21-fret rosewood fretboard, the strings are anchored with a Graph Tech XL Tusq nut, and the neck is attached to the body via a contoured 4-bolt neck joint.

    I've been playing bass since 82. Michael was never asked to be Geddy Lee, but still delivered some great bass moments. Very underrated player. The Women And Children First album is a standout

    Oversized pole pieces on the pickup really make it sound percussive, which I bet sounds awesome with a pick. With some of the styles you demonstrated however the attack was just too much.

      He's just a terrible player if you ask me. I'm not even a bassist and I could play better finger style than he does. Not sure PG is doing with this clown. He's prob giving it to the big wig's daughter or something. Or to the big wig himself? He kinda looks like he may swing that direction.

    Well made???? Take a look at 6min 53sec the strings are not in the pole pieces alignment ,wait till 6.55 it is more obvious when u see the neck botom with the E string "inside" and the G string on the edge of the neck. That means bridge is not in the correct place. Nice sound but poor construction rigor. Is SHECTER quality control departement efficient ??? I hope the street price keep up with this serious build mistake. ( sorry for my english... French on line )

      If you take a closer look, the shot of the bass isn't exactly straight on which can lead to making it look misaligned. I saw one the other day at a local store and it was dead on as far as the alignment goes.

    Everyone claims Michael Anthony "sucks". Totally BS. You think his basslines are simple but you are utterly mistaken. Anthony has the smoothest and most even playing fingers in rock. His right hand finger plucking style is actually similar to Rocco Prestia. When Anthony is driving a 16th note line he makes a perfect BUH-BUH-BUH-BUH-BUH-BUH-BUH-BUH-BUH but when one of you amateurs attempt to play the same line it comes out BOO-da-BOO-da-BOO-da-BOO-da-BOO-da-Boo. Seriously. Listen to a track like "Pound Cake" and try to play it exactly like Anthony. Even with a pick and a compressor you will never nail it as evenly as him. To play like Anthony you will need to have Popeye forearms.

      ANYONE who claims M.A. is a bad bass player is a dam wanna-be themselves and probably couldn't even compare to his level of playing. These dipshits should try learning his parts especially when Hagar was in the band. Great lines! But then again, most of these wanna-be dipshits probably can't hear most of the notes he plays due to being tone-deaf!!

    • @ronniethefixxxer531
      @ronniethefixxxer531 6 лет назад

      He isn't a bad bass player just that on Van Halen his basslines are simple for beginners but then you listen to Loss Of Control/Mean Streets Etc. you realize he isn't bad tho just that every new guy who enters Van Halen only listen to Jump or Runnin' With The Devil (which this one you only play 2 notes)
      but for me M.A is not a bad player but for everyone else is a BS bass player

      @looniethemoonie5353 5 лет назад

      2000om28v well carbon fiber while being very light is stronger than steel (hence why it's used on high end exotic cars and race cars) so im assuming its for its hardness (like having a metal nut brass, aluminum, steel ect.) and its probably more consistent than metal would be.

      how often, besides Rush, is the bassist the sound of the band? those ba vocals were THE SOUND and im sorry but when playing with someone like evh who fills the entire sonic canvas with sound, playing roots in the.pocket is all you need to do. its like ringo starr, everyone says hes boring and bland but hes for the song. same with MA, he plays for the song. if ma would have tried to shred like evh, the songs would have sounded like bad late 70s prog rock and would have sucked. id have him in my band any damn day of the week.

    • @longdongbongchong
      @longdongbongchong 8 лет назад +3

      +Mister Knight Owl Good points, and I feel what you are saying. But the issue is not about playing music that fit the songs, it is about whether or not MA is one of the best rock bass player of all time. Yes, he could keep the pocket, but that doesn't make you one of the best rock players of all time.

    • @misterknightowlandco
      @misterknightowlandco 8 лет назад +2

      +longdongbongchong well, the song is the whole purpose of the thing. no songs, no music. imho the best at serving the song is what makes you the best. if you go by technical skill then of course its guys like billy sheean, geddy lee and if thats what classifies as "best" to you, then id agree.

    • @MuscleDad420
      @MuscleDad420 8 лет назад +3

      Eddie didn't leave a whole lot of room in the songs. The best bassist in that situation would be one that holds down the rhythm. As others have said here, the song is what is most important.

    How does trough body stringing add tension?!?

    • @gab.lab.martins
      @gab.lab.martins 8 лет назад +1

      You have to stretch a longer string to get the same pitch. It's subtle, but it's there.

    • @leesbassment6393
      @leesbassment6393 8 лет назад +1

      Wrong. The speaking length of the string is what matters. On the "other side" of either the bridge saddle or the nut, makes zero difference. Feel, maybe. Tension, no.

    • @gab.lab.martins
      @gab.lab.martins 8 лет назад +1

      Lee Jacobson Feel changes because tension changes. That's why a lot of 7-string players prefer reverse headstocks. Also, the break angle makes a ton of difference in tension, and having string-through doubles or triples the break angle.
      As I said, it's not anything over the top, but it's there. The sum of factors (string length, scale length, string gauge, break angles at both headstock and bridge, and tuning) is what really counts.

    • @leesbassment6393
      @leesbassment6393 8 лет назад +2

      +Gabriel Martins (Inconfident)
      I'll agree that the feel is different, but it's not tension. Tension being different would change the pitch. That's how tuning works. A given guage of string, at a given SPEAKING length, will reach pitch only at a given tension. Increase the tension, while keeping the speaking length and guage the same, pitch goes up. The only thing that extra length past the nut or bridge saddle does is changes the relative flexibility of the string. If we assume that the string's flexibility is a constant, having a longer string allows for more flex. That's your feel change. Anything else is just snake oil.

    • @gab.lab.martins
      @gab.lab.martins 8 лет назад +1

      Lee Jacobson "Tension being different would change the pitch."
      Yeah, cause a 008 gauge tuned to E has the same tension as a 013 tuned to E.
      It feels different because the tension is different, man! What the hell else would have changed so much that you would be able to FEEL with your bare fingers?! There's no physical property called "feel". "Feel" is a biological response to an external stimulus. What is that external stimulus other than tension? Seriously, I want to understand what you're thinking.
