If the Model-T and the J-4 are good enough for Robert DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots, that’s good enough for me. I think he used those in their 2001 Live at the Rolling Rock Festival performance and his tone (and playing of course) was insane.
I’ve commented on this channel about schecter before. Schecter basses are the best product schecter makes in my opinion. I would put a mid tier schecter against any one else’s mid tier basses even over some high end makers basses I think the are just the meaning of bang for buck.
Nice review and cool looking bass. I have a Model T that's a couple years old. The fit and finish is beautiful and mine came with EMG'S and an EMG 18v 2 band preamp. Sound wise, I definitely prefer the active electronics of mine, and the pricing was a bit less as well (right around $800 US). Other basses have come and gone, but my Model T is a forever bass along with the "SuperSquier" that my daughter and I built together.
I've played one at a local store (it was the only store in Switzerland that had this model on stock!).. it was a really bad bass, 3 consecutive dead spots on the D string (starting at G#) and 1 on the G string somewhere and one on the A string around the 12th fret. I really wanted to buy this bass because of the EMG pickups and the crazy good locks. But this very model will definitely stay in that shop forever!
Awesome review, Johnny 😎🤘🏻🎸 schecter makes such phenomenal basses. I own a schecter stiletto extreme 5-string bass for about 11 years and it is an awesomely beautiful bass guitar. It’s been my main bass for a long time and it’s one of my most treasured basses. It’s an absolute keeper for me. As for the schecter model-t bass, it’s a really nice looking and sounding bass. Superb tones and great for any genre of music. I also dig their diamond J bass(which is their take on of a jazz bass). A little too pricy but totally worth buying if you like jazz basses. Other than that, the model-t bass is a great sounding bass.
I own this bass and actually love the pickups. I actually found the neck pickup to really boom compared to my Fender PJ. My favorite setting tends to be full P, 70% J and 70% tone. Also get really good tone going 70/70/70. I didn’t really like the tap either at first, but it is more noticeable with high volume or with headphones. That feature while not impressive at first has grown on me. It should go without saying that a good chunk of the price is in the black limba and ziricote, not to mention the roasted maple neck. That is not cheap wood. It’s in the exotic line for a reason.
Regrding coil split Of couse it's not what the badge says it is. It's a switcher to what they call a vintage mode Based on my personal experience of playing different Schecter basses with this system it works that way: all Monster tone pickups have specific higher output with notable low-end boost (even single coils, yes), both of which are off when you put knob in a split position - now it's more classic sound, but with lower output (bad for mix) btw, its neck is more narrow than on Session series, especially noticable for 5 string version
That wood and finish with a roasted neck it’s screaming LOOK AT ME on the stage, gorgeous. Anyway, it seems that the body is pretty flat with sharp edges: is it forearm safe for longer sessions? Did you notice some fatigue regarding this? Great review anyway man, really enjoy your content, keep it up! 🙌
Would you consider doing any reviews with BEAD tuning? I’m very Interring this bass. It’s kinda hard to find reviews showing the range of the pickup when tuned down.
15:23 Working with the T-4 black limba here... How did you switch between pickup and neck? If I turn the main volume knob down (the coil tap knob), I get nothing out of the middle volume knob - which would indicate the volume knobs are wired serial, not parallel... meaning I can't actually switch between pickups... so, I'm obviously not understanding this correctly. Aggravating Schecter does not display diagrams, and yes -- the coil tap feature isn't even mentioned.
Honestly, I found that I didn’t care for the tone of this bass. I am pretty sure the Sterling By Music Man basses are brought to California for setup and final check before the go to retailers.
Sounds lika P-J should. Fat low end from the neck and crispy definition from the bridge. Not sure what to make ouf of the coil tap feature. But in some cases the low E sounded way louder than the other strings. maybe a set-up issue?
Like the sound with both pickups and full or 50% tone. Bridge pickup by itself sounds a little weak. Coil tap, spoil tap. Not totally convinced by the looks but it's not horrible. However too expensive for me.
I think it is a beautiful bass! However, there are two things that keep me from considering it... First and foremost is the weight. My 11 pound 2008 MM SR5, which is an absolutely amazing bass, has not been played very much over the past few years because of the weight. The older I get the more sensitive my back has become and I just can't handle anything much over 9 pounds any more. Second, I have to agree that I'm not a fan of the overall tone nor that completely unnecessary coil tap switch. To me the P pickup sounds okay, but that bridge pickup sounds a bit too thin and gets even worse when you pull the coil tap. All just my personal opinion, your review as always is very informative and entertaining.👍
Seems to have a very nasally tone, compared to the Session model. 😕 i think it’s the bridge pickup. The P sounds great but that bridge pickup makes it sound… idk.. anemic? Just my two cents. Thanks for the great review!
This bass looks ammmazing! But the sound... I don't think it's that special. I love the Model-T shape and have one of these, but for the price this one should give more than it has. And one more thought - I can't understand why this one, and mine too, has such a weak bridge pickup. That's why it's useless. Thank you very much for your review! This is really a good choice.
Single coil bridge pickups by themselves are never really my thing really so I wasn’t expecting much. Sounds good with the neck, but I agree nothing crazy
Neither of the pickups blow me away individually, but they blend together well. I don't get the point of the coil tap either. It looks nice and I'm sure it's quite well made, Schecter know their stuff. But if I had $1200 to spend on a bass this one probably wouldn't make it on the short list.
It's Vintage mode on/off. Based on my personal experience of playing different Schecter basses in guitar store with this system it works that way: all Monster tone pickups have specific more powerful output with notable low-end boost (even single coils, yes), both of which are off when you put knob in a split position - now it's more classic sound, but lower output cuts it a bit in mix
No way I'd pay that much for this bass when there are hundreds of better options out there, if it's $1200 in your county, then it's probably near 2k in Australian dollars.
I really don't get all that positive feedback from the comments secion.. the bridge pickup sounds so incredibly weak and even the neck pickup solo sounds thin. I've heard better sounds from 300,- EUR P/J basses. The coil tap is a nice addition when both pickups are on, but other than that? The looks of the bass are incredible though!
Schecter instruments look great I’ve never played one and have been blown away. They look great, play great, are built incredibly well, just sound meh.
@@JonnyDibble Hey Johnny, thanks i known buddy. Althought because of your previous videos i have bought new Marcus Miller P5 alder mg4 in Mild Green. Love it !
too expensive for what you get! extremely bare-bones bass for $1300 USD and asian mass produced. I know fender has some mexican basses in this price range but they are usually the special editions or the artist series. You can get a USA fender for this much money if all you want is a basic P bass. you are paying for the styling and the gold hardware looks aweful imo

I’ve had two of the old Model Ts and they were great! Came stock with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders 👍

Very nice! Thanks very much 😊
Every time that I hear a Schecter bass play they blow basses twice the price out of the water.
Tom Sisson
I will never understand why everyone sleep on them
This is a bass that I would buy it today!!!!!
It does what I need!!!
a P bass with additional jazz pickup!
Congrats on your new bass then!! 😝🥳
Oh man, I might get this. Huge fan of Schecter and this is otherworldly.
What a sound with both pics balanced and individual :O
I have the Schecter P 4 Exotic. It’s a P Bass on steroids
That’s a good way to put it! Definitely more aggressive
Yeah, I love mine although I play my Schecter J4 even more.

Great looking bass! Definitely worth checking out. thanks Johnny
No worries! 😃

Ziricote is my favorite wood. I love the inlays and pickguard. I must own one.

Thanks very much!

Thanks so much! Tbh I normally get annoyed with that, but I didn’t really notice it with this bass
I love schecter 5 strings , but I use Leo fender basses for 4 string (p bass and a geddy lee) made in Mexico. Because the metrics system is superior

Hi! I’ve done one in BEAD, the Warwick Rockbass ☺️
Would you prefer this or the Fender Precision 2?
I'm here for the #MAJESTICMULLETMOMENT
Nearly cut it off the other day 😵

Black Limba is heavyyyy. I’ve got an Explorer shape guitar with a Black Limba body and it’s 11lbs 😄
On an explorer too? Dayummm
@JonnyDibble How would you compare the Schecter Monster Tones vs the Seymour Duncan's in the Model T?
SDs win I think
Sounds lika P-J should. Fat low end from the neck and crispy definition from the bridge. Not sure what to make ouf of the coil tap feature. But in some cases the low E sounded way louder than the other strings. maybe a set-up issue?

Definitely turns heads, but not for everyone!
How do you feel this compares to the 735a from Yamaha?
Id say I prefer the Yamaha tbh!

Nice bass, reminds me of my Squier...😊
Which Squier?? 😊
Nice review as always Jonny but as far as the bass goes, nothing to see here, next!
Pretty.

I define "wildly expensive" as anything greater than $750 (for guitars/basses)
I often don’t feel comfortable spending over 700 on guitars, but appreciate what goes into making them so expensive
Neither of the pickups blow me away individually, but they blend together well.
I don't get the point of the coil tap either.
It looks nice and I'm sure it's quite well made, Schecter know their stuff. But if I had $1200 to spend on a bass this one probably wouldn't make it on the short list.
Know their stuff they do. But yeah, not anything mind blowing beyond the surface!

The sound level disappeared every time you turned the tone to 50% or 0% it was difficult to hear. Other than that. Great video
Looks cool - tone-wise it's just weak. Not a bad tone, but is weak and a bit lifeless. They could improve that for sure. Great content.
Agreed. Thanks so much!
Stop. When I saw this one I was in love. But woo that price tag. The P pickup is way overwound. I think thats the strange part.
Makes it quite aggressive, something I don’t actually look for in a p bass anymore
Black Limba and Korina are the same. 11lbs is too heavy for me.
Oh are they now? Why do they do this.
No way I'd pay that much for this bass when there are hundreds of better options out there, if it's $1200 in your county, then it's probably near 2k in Australian dollars.

They definitely tick a lot of boxes
For me it’s too heavy to play 3 sets with .. and , in my opinion . pretty pricey compared with what else is available at that price ..
Weight can be such a make or break considering the set length
Hot diggity, that's a sexy bass.
Despite not being quite how I expect it, it’s still DAMN sexy
I play a Peavey T40, eleven pounds is not heavy for an electric bass....😋
😂 You are very brave
