    The first bass shown kills Fenders, old and new. Shows that Schecter doesn't care about marketing ,which is actually good for the informed buyer; you get a great bang for the buck! Don't follow those type of people who try to justify their terrible purchases and tell you that it is a sub $1000 guitar and so it can't be perfect. After this level of an instrument, it is only you yourself who you have to invest in more!

    +CaptAnderton The “out of phase” sounds on the Schecter Diamond-J 5 are indeed out of phase: speaking in terms of electrical phase, not temporal phase (as in PA speaker alignment). The phase reversal switch reverses the flow of electrons through the reversed pickup's coil, thus mimicking the first half of RWRP (Reverse Wind, Reverse Polarity): the missing second half (i.e. the fact that the pickups' polarities match) is why the effect sounds more like Peter Green than a Strat. A Strat's 2 and 4 positions get their characteristic sound not from the RWRP middle pickup, but rather comb filtering (as the pickups' positions put them out of temporal phase with one another) and the output reduction of connecting the pickups in parallel (their inductance and resistance is reduced, meanwhile their capacitance is increased).

    Funny to see an Andertons video about Schecter basses appear a couple of days after I buy a Schecter bass from Andertons.
    Interesting about the incorrect tag on the push-pull. The bass I got was the Diamond J and I've been confused because the push-pull knob doesn't seem to be humbucker/coil-tap. It even says on the Andertons site that it is but the hum is only bucked when both volume knobs are at the same level and that's regardless of the position of the push-pull switch.

    You can tap a single coil (at least on a guitar). The SD quarter pound are made to be tapped. They are wound in such a way that you are able to access either all the winds or a smaller portion of those winds. You should have Seymour on to help you understand this concept. A tap is not a coil split (which is what I believe Lee is thinking of).

    • @Robstafarian
      @Robstafarian 8 лет назад

      +Don Thorvund Like many guitarists, particularly those in the UK, Captain Lee commonly misuses the term “coil tap.”

    • @DonThorvund
      @DonThorvund 8 лет назад

      +Robstafarian I don't think that is limited to the UK. There is a different between "tap" and "split". In other videos, he seems to state that he gets it, and then flubs it on other videos. BTW, I have a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound in the bridge of a Tele and it is a vicious pickup (in a great way), however, when tapped, it does an amazing impression of a vintage Tele Bridge pickup. Lots of options.

    • @Robstafarian
      @Robstafarian 8 лет назад

      Don Thorvund I did not say that it is limited to the UK: I said it is particularly common among UK guitarists. For as much as I like tapped single coils as a design, I have never used one.

    coil tap is when they tap in the middle of the winds (thus it can be on a single coil), giving you a sound of less winds. Sprint is when you "split" the Humbucking coils.

    @9:10, you can have a coil tap on a single coil pickup. The clue is in the name! You are simply tapping into the coil at a known point. Schecter did these in the '80s with single coil pickups on their Jazz Bass model back then. You had the hotter output of the full number of turns of the pickup, then maybe a secondary tap 2/3 of the way into the coil. This gives you a lower output and different tone.

  • @adflaker
    @adflaker 8 лет назад

    While you are correct that it is a phase push/pull pot of the Bass you demo-ed in this vid, you might be confusing Coil TAPPING with Coil SPLITTING. Coil TAPPING simply lowers the output level of the pickup by bypassing some of the wire turns around the magnets. You can TAP a single coil pickup (especially a high-output one like a Quarter-Pounder by S.D.). Coil SPLITTING turns off one whole side of a 2-coil pickup.

    Nathan really seemed to like the cheap Schecter better. I went and looked it up, and that Schecter Omen series seems to get really good reviews everywhere.
    Anyone with a lot more experience with these instruments that can tell me why that is? Is Schecter's low price range just really high end for a cheaper bass? Or are their cheaper basses just straight up better than the high price ones (or so close as to not even really justify the difference)?
    Asking because I'm in the market for a new 5-string I can use for stage and studio and the Omen Extreme 5 keeps coming up, even though it's several hundred dollars cheaper than everything it gets reviewed alongside.

    Thanks for this. Been trying to decide on fender mim 70s jb or the fender aerodyne jb. But since seeing this review I'm leaning toward one of these. Seems I'd get more in way of upgrades for similar money. Any advice on this welcome. Thanks.

    Lee, youre incorrect there about the coil tapping your mixing it up with coil splitting coil tapping infact can be done on single coils and will result in less coil windings when tapped, coil splitting is going from humbucker to singlecoil, so in case of that bass, it infact uses coil tapping.

      +jan de man And for those who want proof... www.seymourduncan.com/blog/the-tone-garage/what-is-coil-tapping - the page at Seymour Duncan explains it rather nicely :)

    I played an excellent 4 string bass from this series at The Cat Club on Sunset- 8911 Sunset Hollywood 90069.
    It was big and bad ass. Perfect sound . Five star bass. michael t Wyman. fellow RUclipsr.

    loving the bass videos. just a suggestion. Can you test the sounds a little more before shooting as neither the player or basses are always being done justice as the emphasis is on mid and high rather than a blend of lows a little more. There are some guys out there who nail the sound on you tube. Just my opinion though keep up the good work 👍

    LOVE the schecter model T
    I’m just about to save up for one basically like that since I like the 51 p bass look with all the schecter mods

    Hey everyone, I was hoping somebody somewhere on the world of youtube could possibly help me out reviewing an older schecter i got back in the early 2000s for around 4-$500. From what i can find on guitar centers website its been discontinued for ages. I got the schecter diamond series 004 Elite and i believe it was replaced with the stiletto but there are several that look extremely similar but dont look exactly the same. I was just wondering what people thought of it if they have played one. I didnt play it very much and i wasnt very good but im interested in picking bass up again and im not sure if i should try something else. Im aware a different bass isnt going to do much if the skill isnt there but some bass just feel different for ease of learning. For instance my very first bass was a Jay Turser Fender ripoff but even though it was a much cheaper bass all around its feel just seemed more comfortable to me. Anyways from what i have gathered on the schected a couple people told me they are very good for a mid range bass and that particular model was a very limited run before it was replaced and could have some slight value just in that factor. Its in very good condition and aside from getting strap locks on it its still brand new and has a nice straight neck although it may need a new 9v soon. So mayby i could cash in on it and get something new like an ibenez or warwick or since im complete crap just stick with what i got. Im just looking for some opinions on that specific bass and i cant find a review or video on it anywhere since its been gone over 15 years now. Thanks guys
