You mentionned my biggest thing when it comes to TMS. Once you overlook the fact that it was supposed to be SMT X FE, it is an amazing game on its own!

Seeing how TMS is the literal opposite of SMT, I think it makes sense that its brightness opposes the darkness of typical SMT games. Its combat system integrated the weapon triangle of FE amazingly and also served as a terrific skeleton for the SMTV combat system and UI.

The thing about the "localization" of the game is that the decision to use the NA version of the game was Nintendo's and not Atlus. That decision ended up causing such a backlash over in Japan and NOJ ended up issuing a apology and offering full refunds to people who preordered it.Funny part was that when that happened, #FE for the Wii u ended up climbing back up the sales chart on Amazon Japan.

To be perfectly honest with you I think TMS’s biggest mistake was having such a vague announcement trailer. TMS has one of the most fun to play combat systems I've experienced in a JRPG. It's a shame it tanked so hard due to unmet expectations and the limited appeal of the theme (ironically, it was what got me interested in the game in the first place because it was so different from the usual medieval-inspired Fire Emblem or apocalyptic SMT).

Ugh I hate seeing the people that just say no due to the censorship in the comments. Game is about being cute, cool, or expressing oneself. It's not even losing any of that by being censored. And tbh it may even be better censored so you an focus on those things more rather than just staring at how the characters look. Honestly I didn't even notice it was censored when I played it.
Game has great gameplay, story, characters, customization of what skills you get for them, graphics, cutscenes, music, boss fights, and honestly really touched my heart in a lot of places even with the simplicity most of the situations that did so had. Not to mention it let me think about all the performa that I've awakened in myself which led me to lots of happy thoughts.
Finally, honestly it's the only game of its kind so most people avoiding it are doing themselves a gross disservice they just don't realize it. Almost every other game I play I spend a significant portion of the time thinking about all the ways I wish the game were better, but I could never find such things to think about with this game. It's just too good in too many ways it's like being in paradise.

The censorship is a bit annoying and really makes only chapter 2 weird. The rest of the story really is not impacted by it. Its still worth playing the whole game despite that section.
As someone who played the decensored mod for the wiiU, it made that chapter make more sense but some parts more cringey as well. Its worth just watching on youtube somewhere just to see the difference, but still play the whole game.

I never had the experience of playing it on the Wii U, as I never owned one. However, I managed to get the game this year on Switch and I have to say that I am thoroughly enjoying the game, as we speak.
The overall theme of tackling the problems in the entertainment industry in Japan, from the perspective of performers, is pretty engaging, despite the typical JRPG tropes being a bit more expected. Also, I do love the combat system, which blends a bit of Fire Emblem into the mix and I would love to see this game get more attention.

As for the Fire Emblem aspect of the game. I was expecting a few references and not much more, however they really worked to justify this being a Fire Emblem cross over game and not just a Pop Idol SMT.

3:20 ... Eh, hard to really call it a new IP until they make a second one until then it is an STM style game with Fire Emblem like characters in a World Ends With You location. And don't get me wrong, I loved the original Tokyo Mirage Sessions and am enjoying the Switch remake, fantastic game which I would love to see more of, but unfortunitly it is not uncommon for Atus to do weird great spin offs of a single game and never return to them ever again to avoid burning out what made the spin off great. While searching to see if a sequel is in the works supposedly there is one by the name of "Tokyo Mirage Sessions II World of Fate" but I can not find any credible sources or even multiple sources to back that claim up and so will treat that as if it is an Onion article since there is only one unverifiable source.
While I would love to see TMS turned into a new IP, if they don't then I can respect the fact that Atlus didn't want to start having to keep yet another SMT spin off going specially seeing as all the spin offs they already have can at least recycle the same demons over and over where as this game actually has unique demons so would take a lot more time to actually design for.

I recently finished Nocturne HD Remaster and needed to detox from all the grim dark setting it had and I figured, why not play the game now? And you know what? I fucking love this game just now. I love the session system in the game and got past the cringey idol shit. Surprisingly, most of the characters have hidden depth which I loved. Its tropes galore but it deconstructs some of it.
This game is really underrated. If only it wasnt plague by censorship and advertised better, we wouldve a different timeline where this game got a sequel and in the same veins of Persona popularity.

The thing that upset me about this game is that I really wish it had more Fire Emblem content. They could have made the enemies, dungeons, weapons, and characters much more interesting if they really leaned into the Fire Emblem aspect more. Fire Emblem as a series doesn't really have many opportunities for spin-offs, (warriors which is a sad excuse for a FE love letter, and Heroes which is a dead mobile game) as compared Persona or SMT which constantly get spin offs.
This feels like a Persona/SMT new IP that has FE only because it was forced in, rather than a new IP that embraces FE and that really sags the game for me.

This game is hard for me.. Fire Emblem is my favorite game series and Persona is my 3rd favorite. This should be a dream come true right? Not exactly. The biggest aspect that I had to deal with is how underwhelming the Fire Emblem in corporation is. Fire Emblem characters other than Tiki are relegated to shadowy figures that dont actually look like they do in Fire Emblem... Other than that you get the weapons/magic advantages but mixing it into something COMPLELETY different in combat.. made it not at all Fire Emblem.
Persona seems to have taken the lead design which was nice... except. Stardom characters like Ann in P5 or Rise in P4 are amazing. Whats not amazing is when every single party member is doing the same thing, making the party story arcs underwhelming as a whole.
This should have been a wet dream game for me but the cross over as its own IP ruined it for me.

We'll pirate the fan translation like with FE fates, or get the JP version for a home brewed console like the wiiU etc.

What are you doing on a video about JRPGs then? This game is an outlier on the Switch because the Switch usually doesn't have censorship and Sony is now the king of censorship...and even then JRPGs as a whole have historically been censored outside Japan. Give me your top five jrpgs and I'll explain to you how they were censored outside Japan.

The game is censored and that is enough for my not to play the game. I’ll just stick to playing persona as shin megami tensai.

Oh yeah because Persona has never been censored outside Japan🙄
Last time I checked aren't Persona 1 and 2 kind of Infamous for being some of the most censored games ever created?
